I got an itch and it needs scratching. One particular band who
completely soothe the little bit of me that gets vexed by all these
crappy fashion bands is Brooklyn's peerless Vivian Girls. A sassy as
fuck 3 piece who manage to sound like this awesome C86 shoegaze garage
car crash but with fabulous timeless songs that shunt up your spine
with so much pure scratch-pop effervecence I can't stop smiling. The
cool little 7" we just had sold out in 2 seconds flat, proving there's
summat precious in these MBV meets Shop Assistants produced by Phil
Spector grooves. Also Lush meets The Vaselines is a top tip but the
songs are like Heavenly if they chewed gum & got drunk in seedy
bars! The caustic shamble of the guitar, buried in jangling sandpaper
feedback, the rumbling, poppy bass & the rudimentary snare drum
cracks form just-so flighty blasts of bubblegum punk from the heavens.
Then the vocals, sing-song in monotone glory like wistful, dreamy
poetry! I'm totally in love with these ladies & their effortless
vision of perfect indie pop and I take thy hat off to the evergreen
& uber-cool In The Red for re-issuing this perfect set of faith
restorers! Make sure you catch 'em live in December!
