Complimenting that amazing-looking Benge CD booklet thing from last week we've got a split 7" in on Static Caravan featuring Benge and Wrangler pissing around on a 1968 Moog Modular and Scanner doing the honours on a 1978 Formant Modular. Benge and Wrangler take the anal log baton and really run with it, offering up a bit of a high-paced blipfest that belies the minimal equipment used. The Scanner side is interesting and undoubtedly good but it's not quite floating my boat at the minute, it takes a more atmospheric tack but ultimately seems a bit more pointless than the flip. It'd be easy to accuse these tracks of being more like those little sound demos you might get on a VST plugin website than tracks that really stand up on their own.. On the big Benge project this'd be totally fair enough since the purpose is as much historical as it is musical, but on a two track 7" it'd be easy for the point to be lost. Whether this is for you is largely going to depend on your level of fetishism for old gear, but it's high quality for sure. It's not quite the cookie from Tesco I had for lunch but it's getting there.
