Chemikal Underground having paid off their mortgages with the Mogwai re-issue thingy are all set to return very quickly into debt with an album by Jim Putnam of the Radar Brothers, going under the name Mt. Wilson Repeater. Thats not to put Jim or his band down - they are very fine indeed. Its just that in this day and age this self-titled effort is unlikely to sell that many especially when the packaging is so dreadful. You may have got away with it in the 90's but the middle agers who still buy CD's just WILL NOT STAND FOR IT!!! Anyway onto the music which as expected is lovely - a more electronic version of the Radar Brothers leisurely meanderings on the first track leading onto a lovely tune where the phrase 'guitars going sideways' springs to mind. all kind of weird chords/changes and unexpected stops and starts somewhere between early Meat Puppets and Thinking Fellers. Otherwise its kind of as if Grandaddy learnt to write more intesting songs. It drifts along pleasantly then something unexpected happens like on odd noise or a chord change out of nowhere. I like this a lot so go on - make me eat my earlier words - go out and buy it in your droves.
