Now that Ariel Pink has pretty much screwed things up with that so-so hit and miss last album, it could be former bandmate War’s turn to shine. This, however, is a reissue of his debut album allegedly recorded overnight when Ariel Pink was denied a visa to the UK possibly because he looks far too insane for us Brits.

It’s never been released outside the US so this is a chance to pick it up on lovely old vinyl. War has made a few more polished albums since but this fuzzed, lopsided, disjointed lo-fidelity music owes an awful lot to Ariel Pink. In reality it’s more lo-fi than even Pink’s earliest albums, many tracks sound like they are playing on a badly tuned transistor radio...three streets away, but through all this you still hear some magical melodies creeping through.

Second track ‘Good Clues’ is particularly brilliant  - it’s like a sped-up Lindsay Buckingham playing in an outlet pipe. There are some great tunes going on here, I’m finding the production far, far too lo-fi even for my tastes but there is plenty of stellar ‘60s influenced psychedelic songwriting at play if you can hear anything through the murk.
