Following the damn fine Martyn 12" Appleblim's promising Apple Pips label have their second record out and it's some remixes Of Appleblim and Peverelist's 'Over Here' Brendon Moeller takes the originals to new territory under both his own name and his Beat Pharmacy guise. The first mix is a four to the floor 127bpm dub techno mix, full of lush dubby chords and rump shaking snares. Big synth sweeps and a delicious groove reminding me of Basic Channel (I bet producers making dub techno are sick of hearing that but they really did inspire a generation). This is one for the Echospace fans too, I reckon. A nifty tune/ tool to build into techno and make the transition from a more uptempo dubstep tune. The Beat Pharmacy mix on the flip is a tad slower but has a fine stomp to it. The vibe with the vocal recalls Rhythm and Sound tune 'Smile' and has some lovely melodic, metallic stabs and a bassline and claps that give it more of a dub-house feel not unlike the excellent Main Street gear. This is probably my preferred mix of the two. Nothing particularly new but well executed and dare I say it quite sexy. As the effects build on the stabs it gets nice and spacey. I'm really diggin' the Apple Pips die-cut house sleeve too. With releases coming from T++, Ramadanman, Komonazmuk and the brilliant Gatekeeper (his 12" on Punch Drunk is awesome) this is a label that's really captured my interest.
