And over to New Zealand with a belting CD by Bad Statistics who win my vote for best band name of the week. Seriously I can't think of a better band name I've heard all year..... It's arrived in a parcel from Pseudo Arcana who have been peddling their left of centre wares for a good few years now. 'Lucky Town Gone' immediately caught my ear when I first heard it mainly cos of the vocals..... The guy sounds like he's having a nervous breakdown... he's doing this weird chanting and talking absolute shite (well it sounds like that so apologies if it's deadly serious). Anyone wanting to hear someone sounding like their having a breakdown on record then check this out. Underneath the madness though is some great sludgey tribal sounding rock reminding us of bits of early Liars, the Birthday Party and Circle. It's got a weird groove throughout it which chugs along and what with the vocals being spat out all madly over the shop, it makes for a thoroughly compelling listen. I've not heard anything like this beore and if you're after something new and feel like taking a chance on something different then I can heartily recommend this as it's a bizarrely rewarding way to spend 48 minutes of your life.
