The last CD in the batch of Pseudo Arcana titles to grace the stereo is a real head rinser. 'Rag Red Reverie' is the work of A.M also known as Antony Milton who curates this fine New Zealand imprint and has had releases out on Celebrate Psi Phenomenon and Last Visible Dog. The album kicks off with Meccano which has abrasive shards of feedback and noise created with a feedback tray and a skull pounding 4/4 beat which you'd be forgiven for thinking was a drum machine but is actually created with a loop pedal. The album's not all dense walls of sound however. 'Somewhere Between Sky and Night' is a gentle more reflective piece full of warmth and feeling. Although these six tracks were recorded in single takes they're far from messy jams. 'The Sun Rides Sidesaddle; Lies Contented In The Evening On The Ground' has rhythms that evolve and loose, free wheeling structure. 'Wood and Wires' closes proceedings with some breathtakingly beautiful tones and washes of effects. These tape recordings have a fantastic analog sound that really enders me to them. Quality stuff.
