Perlonex have roped in a right pair of leg-ends (meaning they could house both of them in just the one pair of shoes) for this Tensions double CD full of droney mischief. On the first disc we've got Keith Rowe of improvisational one-offs AMM lending his talents to a long, shifting piece underscored by a near constant tinnitus type drone.. Others sounds drop in and out of the mix, I'm sure there's clattering spoons and forks at one point, maybe they're baking some kind of avant-garde cake out of self-satisfied nods and beards. This one gave Phil a headache, so it must be doing something right. Personally I'm much more into the other disc where Charlemagne Palestine joins in the fun. This one's far more evocative, a constant low organ blaring away with pianos and twinkling glassy keyboards that makes me think of all sorts of sinister cinematic business.. Things like Carnival of Souls or the end of Don't Look Now. Pretty cool, as is the minimalist fold-out card packaging.
