'Fermented Condiments' is the debut EP by Sunken Foal. It's on Planet Mu and has confusingly beeen scheduled with the full length CD, 'Fallen Arches'. It's one of the most interesting things I've heard on the label for some time as I'm a tad pood out by the never ending plethora of dark dubstep & hard tech grumpy rave that Paradinas seems to love chucking at us. Not to mention some of the baffling Euro rave he sneaks into our boxes too. I like experimental electronica with human feeling, minds & machines in discordantly melodic harmony. Irishman Duncan Murphy uses manipulated strings to great effect, also tearing guitar & piano keys to shreds by way of highly astute digital buggery to create some frankly gorgeous organic braindance that reminds me of mid period 'Lunatic Harness' era U-Ziq but is still fresh as fuck. ''Retract' is my favourite track on the 12", just a happy, spiralling mess of collapsing, building, plinking notes with confounding elastic rhythms that manages to stay in one piece, even managing to be drunkenly melodic. Also love the mellow, swaying pissed jazz-isms of the 3rd track. This is old-skool wonky electronica from a fit & vibrant new talent. If you miss the old sound then you need this slightly berserk platter. It's like an overjoyed border terrier breakdancing on mushrooms!
