Former SOTW champs Lovvers are back with their first release for big fat Wichita. Nice to hear this Notts based 4 piece still sound like their recording studio is in Oscar the Grouch's armpit. 'Think' has 7 tracks of trashed scuzz punk full of odd little hooks that's starting to infect me like a very pleasant viral disease. The guitarist Henry veers between wibbling surfy sketches to full on scratchy off kilter riffage and mad little discordant slivers thrown off with gleeful abandon. Shaun the singer sounds like he's screeching through a broken toddlers megaphone, the frantic, primal drums are just amazing, he's so tight he has to loosen all the bolts metaphorically which causes the songs to sometimes sound as if they're about to fall to bits but listen closely, he's a really volatile & interesting powerhouse under the abrasive fuzz, a real punk sticksman. He's called Stephen and is a superb human being, as they all are including the reserved Michael on bass who holds the whole wonky show together with some pummeling elastic bass strides. True UK gutter rock with huge nods to The Germs, The Wipers & Flipper but fresh as fuck. It's a 12"-er is this but the band say you're allowed to buy the CD if you really want but it doesn't look as good. Went to see them last night and they blew my mind a bit and made me feel 18 again which is a bonus. Catch them on tour and check their myspazz at
