- Cocaine Death by Prurient

Well for Prurient fans picking up this LP is a total no brainer. Not that I’m suggesting that Prurient fans don’t have brains. I’m a huge Prurient fan (like a huge fan of his art and not a huge fat or tall bloke) and I have a brain, I just can’t remember where I left it, probably down the back of the sofa with an old 10p piece from 1987 and a moldy Twiglet.
Now you ask any Prurient fan what their favourite Prurient album is and just like eight out of ten cats say they prefer Whiskers, seven out of ten will say ‘Cocaine Death’. It’s a diamond in his vast catalogue and some of the most visceral sonics committed to tape I think I’ve ever heard, even if he does sound a bit like a posessed Mur-Man from Masters of the Universe at times. But in all seriousness if you only ever own one Prurient record then I reckon this could well be the one to snatch. Interestingly it wasn’t originally conceived as an album but compiled some ridiculously limited Hospital Productions cassette editions onto CD back in 2008 and has now been remastered specifically for this vinyl issue in an elegant hot-foil printed sleeve. Yeah on the surface it may seem like brutal harsh power electronics but get inside and be absorbed as what lay deeper within is a thing of outstanding beauty and a window into the soul of this extraordinary artist.
Am totally buzzing to get my mitts on a vinyl copy of this. Amen.
