Liking this band called Lapels. They're from Wakefield where a band called The Labels once hailed from. I was drunk perusing Myspace one night and happened upon The Labels and thought they were so awful I e-mailed them and told them just what I thought then woke up in the morning & groaned the groan of an extremely embarrassed man. I do that 2-3 days a week. I do so hope this isn't the same band ...

I do so hope this isn't the same band because I think they've actually got something, a kinda laconic slacker indie thing with fuzzy, spiky harmonies & a slightly trashy discordant thing going on, a mucky, gutturalĀ pure sound that really makes me wanna go out to gigs. The drums sound like oil drums full of foam & the guitar just sounds evil, like it's being maxed to 10 through a Tandy amp borrowed off someones Dad. Then the b-side is more raucous & thrilling than the 'A' (but these bands don't care about all that "leader track" business! Another hit from the North!'Painted Skeletons/ Last Great Civilisation is a Ltd no'd 7" on Philophobia.
