Newcastle's Les Cox Sportifs join that hallowed club of scratchy lo-fi indie bands who carry the old indie flame aloft. A bit like David Cronenberg's Wife & old hands like I Ludicrous, they've the wonderful knack of making quirky, sideways songs full of eccentric lyrics, shambling guitar, biscuit tin drums & a kind of irresistible homespun jerkiness that makes you want to adopt them. 'Neverheed' is a CD only mini album housed in a posh digipak and the simple but effective tunes twist & turn in your head & heart. His Geordie accent is much less apparent than that of Dave Blogs from Maximo Park but listening deeply to these songs, you just know the two bands are kindred spirits regardless of the fame abyss they're either side of! Check this out, it's good 'n' natural, great wonky fun & packed with smashing little tunes that hook you in. Would love to catch them live (just realised missed them last night!)
