Salad-munching Ant isn't here this week so it's a good opportunity to listen to some animal cruelty music. Donkey Punching, though.. Barbaric. At least pick on someone your own size and hit a horse or a big dog (like Westwood). I don't really want to go and see a film about stuff like that. Now if it was about middle-class chumps being analed-up and brutally slain then that's another story. The film's a Warp job like Dead Man's Shoes so you'd expect it to have a tidy soundtrack and it does, separated into two CDs with licensed tunes on one and the original score on the other. On the former you've got tat like bloody Bloc Party and a poor remix of The Knife's 'Heartbeats' but it's mostly dead good, anything with 'Smokebelch II' by The Sabres of Paradise is alright by me. Then there's Plaid, LFO, Broadcast, etc. etc.. Can't complainan at that. The OST is by a chap called Francois-Eudes Chanfrault and it also hits the mark, with a variety of styles blazed through from avant-garde field music-y incidental piece type stuff to post-rock to the odd little industrial bit to sun-drenched ambience. It's good value, this is!
