bdrmm
The Bedroom Tapes

The Bedroom Tapes is an EP that gathers up a number of remixes and lockdown live sessions from shoegaze newcomers bdrmm. On the first side are pared-down versions of ‘Gush’, ‘A Reason To Celebrate’ and ‘Forget The Credits’ from their debut album Bedroom, and of 2019 single ‘Question Mark’, and on the reverse are remixes from Ditz, International Teachers of Pop and Andy Bell.

Bruce Springsteen
Letter To You

I'd better get on the blower to my dad as there's a new Bruce Springsteen album on the edge of town. A Letter to You is the first album he's made with his legendary E Street Band. It was made in just five days and contains nine new songs and three taken from his 1970s era of leaving his best work in the can. There's nothing like the E Street Band on full throttle so this should delight his fanbase.

Cabbage
Amanita Pantherina

Politically charged Tameside post-punkers Cabbage unveil their second studio album, Amanita Pantherina. Spearheaded by new single ‘Get Outta My Brain’, it explodes in technicolour where their early EPs and 2018’s debut Nihilistic Glamour Shots were content to dwell in black-and-white atmospherics.

Clint Mansell & Kronos Quartet
Requiem For A Dream

Clint Mansell seems like a nice guy with a great name and rather talented too. This is his haunting score to Darren Aronofsky's 2000 film Requiem For A Dream, performed by Kronos Quartet. Performed by Kronos Quartet, have those words ever led to bad music? I sincerely doubt it.

Elvis Costello
Hey Clockface

The second best Elvis is releasing his thirtieth studio album, titled 'Hey Clockface'. The various three singles indicate a diverse sound, taking in brash power pop, Nick Cave-esque smoky lounge jams, and angular post-punk. I've never been a massive Elvis Costello fan, and have never listened to any of his modern stuff, but this clutch of tunes might just rectify that...

Espen Eriksen Trio
End Of Summer

Espen Eriksen Trio return with End of Summer, their fifth album. This time the Norwegian jazz trio are back by themselves, following a critically acclaimed album, Perfectly Unhappy, with Andy Sheppard. The album was recorded during lockdown when the band found themselves with no gigs to play and sees them striking a perfect balance between uplifting and melancholic.

GÅS
Rocket

GÅS are a mysterious new band from Sweden who slot in nicely with Rocket Recordings roster like GOAT, Hills, Flowers Must Die, Och, Centrum and Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation. Their debut 7'' single features the doom rock, heavy psych and krautrock influenced 'Epitaph' and a cover of obscure psych pop group Philamore Lincoln's ‘The North Wind Blew South’.

Good Sad Happy Bad
Shades

Good Sad Happy Bad are an experimental indie four-piece who used to be known by the name Micachu and The Shapes. The personnel remains the same, but who plays what has changed. Their name comes from the last album they recorded in their previous incarnation. Shades is their first album, and who knows, maybe a future band name.

Gorillaz
Song Machine: Season One - Strange Timez

Gorillaz’ hugely popular Song Machine project, announced earlier this year, gathers together the output to date on this compilation. Season One - Strange Timez is released on regular and deluxe CD and vinyl editions, and contains 11 tracks in total featuring contributions from guest stars ranging from Slaves and Slowthai to Beck, Peter Hook and Elton John.

Hey Colossus
Dances / Curses

London psych / noise rock band Hey Colossus are back with their thirteenth album, Dances / Curses. The current line-up is spread between Somerset and Sheffield but they clicked so well, what’s travelling a few hundred miles for a rehearsal between friends? Mark Lanegan, a long time fan of the band, makes a guest appearance.

Horace Andy
Dub Box – Rare Dubs 1973-1976

Possibly the best day of my life was when I heard Horace Andy's distinctive voice coming out of what I thought was a sound system at a reggae festival in Leeds only to look up and find the man himself stood on a nearby stage. Even if you aren't into your reggae and dub you'll know that quiver from various  Massive Attack records. This box set contains the records he cut in the '70s with Bunny Lee and sees his magnificent voice sitting above dub originals and recuts of his earlier standards.

Jesu
Terminus

Jesu is another moniker Justin K Broadrick of extreme metallers Godflesh uses to make music. He is also known for making heavy techno under the name JK Flesh. As Jesu, he makes music that is misty, glacially paced and incredibly loud. Terminus is his first album in seven years and it seems he’s brought elements of the entire Jesu oeuvre, shoegaze, electronica and dream pop, into play along with whatever those heavy, heavy sounds are.

Kamixlo
Cicatriz

Cicatriz (scar en Espanol) is the debut album by British / Chilean musician Kamixlo. He’s been making waves with his bass-heavy dance tracks over a few EPs, but now expresses himself in the album format, influenced by all sorts from Japanese wrestling to Limp Bizkit. Features guest spots from Felix Lee and Swedish producer Woesum.

Matt Berninger
Serpentine Prison

‘Serpentine Prison’ is the debut solo album from the National’s lead singer Matt Berninger. Commenced very shortly after the group’s last outing ‘I Am Easy To Find’, ‘Serpentine Prison’ feels like a natural outgrowth of that project, a collection of stately, collegiate indie-rock formed with contributions from his National bandmates, his EL VY companion Matt Sheehy and David Bowie’s guitarist Gail Ann Dorsey, on top of production from Booker T. Jones.

Sophia
Holding On / Letting Go

Holding On / Letting Go is the seventh album by Sophia - the post-God Machine project of Robin Propper-Sheppard. The album is a pitch-perfect blend of gentle acoustic music and massive, aggressive noise. Sax player Terry Edwards, who has played with Nick Cave and PJ Harvey, makes a guest appearance.

The Asteroid No.4
Northern Songs

Northern Songs was of course the publishing name used by the Beatles and although The Asteroid No 4 don't exactly ape the fab four they are indebted to the shimmer and jangle of 1960's psychedelia with nods to the Byrds and the Rain Parade front and centre. The dronier, druggier influence of Spacemen 3 is also notable but if the pure pop songwriting of the brilliant title track is replicated across the record this could be a classic sunshine pop record to cheer up 2020.

The Avalanches
We Will Always Love You

You wait 16 years for a second album by The Avalanches then two come along in...four years. Well, it’s quick for them and it’s good to have them back. We Will Always Love You is the Australian electronic group’s third album. The album is themed around the love story between writer and communication scientist Ann Druyan and US Astronomer Carl Sagan. Whilst samples are very much part of the album, a number live musicians were involved including Neneh Cherry, Sampa the Great, Blood Orange, Rivers Cuomo and Tricky.

Theo Parrish
Wuddaji

A new record by legendary producer Theo Parrish! There have been no full-length records from him since 2014's 'American Intelligence' so this will be eagerly anticipated, to say the least. Mr Parrish is known for his pure, deep, sometimes jazzy and always soulful and funktastic house productions and involvement in the Detroit underground scene. Respected worldwide for his masterful DJ work, he clearly understands how to present his work with fellow DJs in mind. Features nine tracks cut across 3 slabs of vinyl for optimum DJ use.

White Hills
Splintered Metal Sky

White Hills - their bassist is called Ego Sensation - enough said. Splintered Metal Sky is the New York hard psych rock duo’s 17th album. It sees the band bringing some industrial influences to their sound, informed by the likes of Einstürzende Neubauten and SPK. There’s also elements of post punk and dub electro. On God Unknown.
