Bent Arcana
Bent Arcana

Bent Arcana are a John Dwyer-led ensemble that features members of Sunwatchers, TV On The Radio, Flying Lotus, Feels, Prettiest Eyes and Mr. Elevator among others. They play improvised jams in the vein of ‘70s hard fusion, prog rock, krautrock and the ECM label. Fans of Oh Sees or any of the other bands mentioned within will love this.

Bernard Grancher
Soleil Gris Eclatant

Recorded at the same time as the Avenugle Etincelle album, released earlier this year, Soleil Gris Eclatant is a darker companion piece from Bernard Grancher. Focussing on the strange relationships that artists develop with the instruments with which they create their music, it’s contained in a beautiful Nick Taylor-created sleeve with two additional art prints.

Bill Callahan
Gold Record

Knaresborough-raised troubadour Bill Callahan returns with 'Gold Record', an album made whilst he was preparing to tour his previous LP 'Shepherd In A Sheepskin Vest'. Many of these tracks were things Callahan had written over the years for other artists to sing, but here they were recorded by Callahan himself in an intuitive creative burst. With some good friends helping flesh out the sounds around that rich, warm baritone, 'Gold Record's conversational songcraft creates a space of solace in our world of chaos.

Bonny Light Horseman
Green/Green

Bonny Light Horsemen are a supergroup of sorts comprising of members of the likes of the Shins and the National. This is their new single which broadcasts to the world their take on a kind of astral folk sound heavy on the banjo, deep with electronics and the feel of the old back road, the desert on the doorstep and the storytelling of the Band in the grooves.

Cut Copy
Freeze, Melt

Freeze, Melt is the first album in three years from Australian synth-pop band Cut Copy. Their collective shelves will already be straining under the weight of the awards they have won over the years and judging by the positive response, across the board, from the music press to their new single ‘Love is All We Share’ their 6th album may be the one to finally tear them off the wall.

Daniel Avery
Love + Light

With his last studio album Song For Alpha coming out only two years ago and with recent collaborations with Alessandro Cortini and Roman Flügel (as Noun) relatively fresh in our mind, another full-on solo record from Daniel Avery comes as a bit of a surprise right now. Love + Light, however, is a coherent and moving musical statement of positivity.

Devendra Banhart
Vast Ovoid

Devendra Banhart released perhaps his most acclaimed album to date with 2019's Ma but as Jimmy Cricket used to say, 'there's more'. Vast Ovoid contains three tracks that didn't quite fit with the theme of that record and here come with a Helado Negro remix as a nice little add on EP. It contains more of his autobiographical songwriting, this time the themes being disappointment and disillusionment.

Elvis Costello
Brutal Youth

'Brutal Youth' was a 1994 album by a certain Elvis Costello. It was also the first music that he recorded with his band The Attractions since the 'Blood and Chocolate' LP they'd done together way back in 1986. Now regarded as one of his best albums - certainly one of his best in the 1990s at any rate - 'Brutal Youth' now comes re-issued courtesy of Music On Vinyl.

GLOK
Dissident Remixed

Sold out - sorry!

H.C. McEntire
Eno Axis

H.C. McEntire used to front the band Mount Moriah before going solo and releasing her critically acclaimed debut Lionheart in 2018. Eno Axis is her sophomore effort and is, once again, a personal album with country and gospel as its starting point. It has themes of nature and love and a broader sonic palette than her debut. A assured step forward from what was already a good place.

Japanese Television
III

Another EP from the increasingly impressive psychedelic rock outfit Japanese Television. Recorded in a disused village hall in the wilds of Eastern England under the aegis of The Wytches’ Kristian Bell, III is constituted of five tracks of probing space-rock, primal garage-pop and krautrock rhythms.

Jonathan Richman
I, Jonathan

Sold out - sorry!

Jónsi
Shiver

Shiver is the first new solo album from Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi in a decade. Boasting collaborations with former Cocteau Twins singer Liz Fraser and Swedish pop star Robyn, and produced by PC Music collective head A. G. Cook, it’s both beautiful and surprising in terms of the sonic realms it explores.

Max Richter
Voices

New work from legendary composer Max Richter. Inspired by the Declaration of Human Rights, Voices was a major undertaking for the musician sourcing people from around the world to read the text in over 70 different languages. The voices form part of the composition which Richter later embellished - the idea being to create hope in a disturbed and often hopeless world.

PJ Harvey
Rid of Me

Rid of Me was the second studio album released by P J Harvey following on from her debut Dry. It was recorded by Steve Albini and (possibly as a result) had a much rawer and primitive sound than Dry. It was performed by the trio of Harvey, Rob Ellis and Steve Vaughan and was the last LP the trio would record as a unit.

PJ Harvey
4-Track Demos

4 Track Demos was a 1993 album by PJ Harvey which pretty much does what it says on the tin. It is home recordings of eight tracks that had already been released on Rid of Me alongside six additional songs. It was Steve Albini himself who persuaded Harvey to release them as a standalone record thinking that they showed a different side of her work than what was shown on the released LP.

Prince
Sign O' The Times

Great news for all Prince fans who were rightly enthralled with last year’s 1999 box set - Warners’ excavation of The Purple One’s extensive vaults leads to this lavish re-issue of 1987’s masterpiece Sign O’ The Times. CD and LP box sets of various sizes are available, but the biggest one is a 13xLP / 8xCD + 1xDVD set that houses a grand total of 92 audio tracks, many of which have never been heard before. For those who want insights into the abandoned Dream Factory, Crystal Ball and Camille projects, this is the final word on this fantastic era for Prince.

The Flaming Lips
American Head

A moderately risque title; garish, slightly queasy-making sleeve artwork; songs called things like ‘Mother, I've Taken LSD’ and ‘You n Me Sellin' Weed’ and ‘At the Movies on Quaaludes’ - yep, that’s right, it’s time for a new LP from The Flaming Lips! Working once again with their mercurial producer Dave Fridmann, the band's twenty-first studio album features guest backing vocals from country superstar Kacey Musgraves among others. ‘American Head’ is a set of dream-hazed prog-pop which will delight those fans who prefer the Flaming Lips when they’re in their brighter, more rose-tinted mode - it’s far more ‘Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots’ than it is ‘Embryonic’. Tracks like ‘My Religion Is You’ are hopeful, wistful and melodious in that way only Flaming Lips songs are.

The Twilight Sad
No One Can Ever Know

No One Can Ever Know was the third full length album by Scottish miseries The Twilight Sad. It introduced a more keyboard-led sound without at all disturbing the atmospheric and emotional post-punk sound they'd been peddling until this point. It was produced by the sadly departed Andrew Weatherall who, if anything, made their sound even more claustrophobic. All their albums are worth a listen and this is no exception.

This Is The Kit
Off Off On

This Is The Kit were steadily building a fanbase until 2018’s breakout LP 'Moonshine Freeze' earned them a whole host of new fans. The band meant to follow up 'Moonshine Freeze' almost immediately, but project mastermind Kate Stables got distracted by an invitation to join The National (as you do). 'Off Off On' proves to be well worth the wait though - this is a collection of idiosyncratic, slightly folkish indie-rock tunes which will appeal to fans of Jeffrey Lewis and Big Thief.
