Alva Noto
Xerrox Vol. 4

Alva Noto - a.k.a. German experimental musician Carsten Nicolai - reaches the penultimate instalment in his intended five-part series of albums titled Xerrox, based upon the digital replication of source material that he commenced back in 2007. Xerrox Vol. 4 is slightly different from its predecessors, more harmonically driven and less based upon pristine sound design.

Sleep On The Wing

Following shortly on from his tenth Bibio album Ribbons, Stephen Wilkinson delivers a new ten-track EP. Continuing with the method of building his compositions with a variety of self-played instruments, Sleep On The Wing is a largely instrumental collection that dwells on themes of escapism and decompression from modern life.

Bob Dylan
Rough and Rowdy Ways

Arguably the most legendary figure in all of rock history, Bob Dylan presents his first new album of new material in eight years, and his 39th altogether. Spanning 70 minutes and containing the 17-minute long single ‘Murder Most Foul’, Rough And Rowdy Ways sees an artist approaching his 79th birthday in some of his best lyrical form in recent memory.

Fontaines D.C.
A Hero's Death

In the spirit of striking while the iron’s hot, Dublin post-punk act Fontaines D.C. deliver their second studio album A Hero’s Death barely a year after their debut Dogrel won such universal acclaim. Stoic and energetic, it seeks to address the grander themes in life, but hasn’t succumbed to a dose of ‘The Big Music’, fortunately!

I Like Trains

Just like the 7.42 Skipton to Leeds service I Like Trains haven't been seen in about eight years but with humanity about to collapse there's no-one better to attempt to make the soundtrack for the impending doom. KOMPROMAT attempts to make sense of the chaos taking influence from the metallic post-punk likes of Joy Division, Gang of Four and the Birthday Party on a welcome return for this distinctive band.

No Joy

Montreal-based shoegaze outfit No Joy, fronted by Jasamine White-Gluz, return for their fourth studio album, and first in half a decade. Inspired by Sheila Heti’s novel of the same name, Motherhood sees White-Gluz take the band in new directions, retaining the guitar-orientated basis of their explorations but now embracing nu-metal, trip-hop and other sounds that she enjoyed as a kid.

Red Sparowes
The Fear is Excruciating, But Therein Lies the Answer

Tenth anniversary re-issue of Red Sparowes much adored third album The Fear is Excruciating, But Therein Lies the Answer. As the title suggests, this is post-rock at it's most filmic. The use of the pedal steel guitar ensures they stand out from their contemporaries and the band have histories in the equally heavy likes of the Halifax Pier and Isis. Time to re-dip your toe into their murky waters.

Roxy Girls
A Wealth of Information

Roxy Girls are a post punk band from Sunderland and feature no girls in their line-up. Their influences include XTC and Wire. A Wealth of Information is their second mini album. They have toured with The Murder Capital, Du Blonde and Flamingods, among others and had their previous mini album produced by Peter Brewis of Field Music. It seems they keep good company.

Targeted Individuals

Finally a vinyl edition of this debut album (originally released in 2019 on FTP) that has been high on many electro fiend wishlists. It trims the digital versions twelve tracks down to a lean eight cuts - pressed loud for maximum impact. As followers of this Helsinki producer will know - his productions for Natural Sciences, Warning, Émotsiya etc. are super crisp and immaculate. These gleaming tracks unfurl with all the graceful, celestial elegance of Gerhard Hansen's ERP productions. Dedicated to Detroit's Erik Travis whom he samples on a coupla tracks. Top drawer electro.

The Soft Pink Truth
Shall We Go On Sinning So That Grace May Increase?

Concerned with the insidious rise of populist / far-right politics across the world, Matmos’ Daniel Drew continues his solo project The Soft Pink Truth. Exploring dynamics and textures outside of Matmos’ regular range, Shall We Go On Sinning So That Grace May Increase? features guest spots from friends such as Angel Deradoorian (ex-Dirty Projectors) and Jana Hunter (Lower Dens).

Warfaring Strangers: Acid Nightmares

Warfaring Strangers: Acid Nightmares is a compilation of what happened when the 60’s drug dream started to turn dark and demented: rock bands started losing it maaaan, and the good vibes turned heavy. For the listener of course, that means all manner of weird and gnarly fuzz-psych trippiness, and Numero Group have done an excellent job of curating a fine obscure selection from the period. CD and double LP editions, with lovely informative liner notes.

10:20 is an album Wire had intended to release on Record Store Day. Given the current situation, with Record Store Day being delayed and revamped, they have decided to release it in the usual way. The album comprised previously unreleased songs from the Red Barked Tree sessions in 2010 and the more recent Hive Mind from 2020. You see where the title comes from now, don’t you?
