Aaron Turner
Repression's Blossom

Hydra Head and Sige Records co-founder Aaron Turner - also a member of bands such as SUMAC and Old Man Gloom - presents his first solo full-length record. Repression’s Blossom sees Turner explore all the kinds of sounds he’s associated with by this point, from minimalism and drone to avant-garde black metal.

Algiers
There Is No Year

Algiers hail from Atlanta, Georgia, apart from drummer, Matt Tong, who comes from Bloc Party. They mix disparate styles such as post-punk and gospel into one rocking sound. The band also take influences from non-musical sources such as southern Gothic literature and politics. There Is No Year is their third album.

Alva Noto & Anne-James Chaton
Alphabet

German electronic musician Alvo Noto is no stranger to collaborations, having worked with the likes of Ryuichi Sakamoto and Blixa Bargeld. He has also previously collaborated with Anne James-Chaton before. The album, Alphabet, is inspired by the encyclopedia of etymology compiled by Isidore of Seville, the city’s archbishop, some 1500 years ago.

Arab Strap
Philophobia

Rarely have musicians managed to combine being horny and being sad quite so effectively. 'Philophobia' is the second album from Arab Strap who have since gone on to become Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton, and saw them explore the limits of love, lust and relationships. It is at times almost too confessional.

Beat Happening
We Are Beat Happening

Will you just look at this. The holy grail for fans of Beat Happening and fans of underground lo-fi pop in general. Beat Happening were pioneers of the lo-fi and indie-pop movement and now you can get all six of their albums packaged up in a 7LP set with a 40 page book and liner notes from like minded soul Lois Maffeo. Remortgage your house. Do whatever you have to do (legally) to get this.

Cabaret Voltaire
Methodology '74 / '78. Attic Tapes

A box set that tracked the early development of Cabaret Voltaire, Methodology '74/'78: The Attic Tapes was originally released back in 2002 and gave fascinating insight into the evolution of one of Britain’s most important bands, right from their genus in 1974 manipulating tape recorders and sounds in their Sheffield attic. Now, the collection is given a box set release on vinyl for the first time, spanning seven discs of clear wax.

Caroline Polachek
Pang

She may just look like any old person soaking wet climbing up a rope ladder but she is Caroline Polachek and you may know her as the lead singer of Chairlift. Following the success of that band she's already tried her hand at a few side projects and written for Beyonce no less but now is the time for her debut solo album to be unleashed.  We;re expecting idiosyncratic vocals and washes of sonically enthralling synth textures. This is sure to be hugely anticipated.

Chromatics
Closer To Grey

David Lynch’s favourites Chromatics took their fans by surprise a month or so ago with the release of their first new album in seven years. Keeping their signature minimalistic synth-pop sound intact, Closer To Grey now arrives on blood red-coloured vinyl, boasting resplendent covers of Simon & Garfunkel (‘The Sound of Silence’) and The Jesus & Mary Chain (‘On The Wall’).

CocoRosie
Put The Shine On

Since forming over 15 years ago, sisters Bianca "Coco" and Sierra "Rosie" Casady have quietly become one of modern music’s hardiest survivors, their ‘freak folk’ sound also influencing many subsequent artists. They’re now on their seventh CocoRosie album, and Put The Shine On has a shout at being their best effort to date, and certainly their boldest and most experimental.

Craven Faults
Erratics & Unconformities

Well hopefully by now you've picked up the stunning trilogy of EPs Netherfield Works, Springhead Works and Nunroyd Works by Craven Faults so you should be impressed enough to get this, the first full length missive from the reclusive producer. The vibe with all these releases seems to be West Yorkshire kosmische  - a kind of rugged, rural take on the synth explorations that emerged out of 1970s Germany. Stellar stuff indeed and fans of CDs will be pleased that the 3CD box set contains all tracks from those aforementioned vinyl-only EPs.

Daniel Lopatin
Uncut Gems (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Uncut Gems is a forthcoming crime thriller starring Adam Sandler playing against type as being a good actor. It's the second The Safdie brothers movie to feature a soundtrack by Daniel Lopatin who is making quite the career for himself as a writer of film scores further to his always impressive work as Oneohtrix Point Never.

Graeme Miller & Steve Shill
The Moomins: Winter Wunderland Edition

People of a certain age love the Moomins. It was the quaint Swedish children's television show about a gang of woodland creatures who looked something like hippopotamuses. Weirdly, the evocative, dreamy music was made in Leeds by a couple of punk-era musicians Graeme Miller & Steve Shill and Finders Keepers have already issued the soundtrack on vinyl to the joy of middle-aged dads everywhere. This version is a Winter Wunderland Edition which, without the benefit of further information, we presume is the same soundtrack in more 'wintery' sleeve art.

HMLTD
West of Eden

HMLTD are a rock band based in London who take their influences from David Bowie, Sparks and the New Romantic era. Their sound is guitar based, fused with elements of EDM and experimental pop. They have been likened to The Prodigy and Peaches, among others. West of Eden is their debut album. They may well be pretty big in 2020.

Legowelt
Secrets After Dreams

The ever prolific Legowelt AKA Dutch electronic musician Danny Wolfers is back with another album, Secrets After Dreams. He’s no stranger to Mystic & Quantum Records and once again finds himself releasing music through them.  The album is the first in a series he’s called SpellWeaver, so the man with a billion releases to his name plans to release more, but you probably already knew that.
  • Vinyl LP (SW 001)

Memory Drawings
Phantom Lights

Phantom Lights is further proof of Memory Drawings ability to mutate their dulcimer, violin and guitar sound into exciting new shapes. This time drummer Chris Cole (Movietone/Manyfingers) is added to the line up as the band explore post-rock and neo-classical. Features members of Hood and Brave Timbers and comes with a remix from Bristol electronica ace Barnaby Carter. We had this in stock in very, very limited quantities a while back as a tiny run tour CD but now the good people at Sound in Silence have issued it in greater numbers.

Mush
3D Routine

Having enjoyed a brilliant couple of years thanks to surprise hit ‘Alternative Facts’ and BBC 6Music playlisted ‘Gig Economy’, plus support slots with the likes of Stereolab and The Lovely Eggs, Leeds trio Mush announce their debut studio album 3D Routine. Mixed by Dream Wife / our girl producer Andy Savours in their hometown’s Green Mount Studio, it’s set to carry on the abstract, socially incisive post-punk of their recent Induction Party EP.

Pinegrove
Marigold

Having released three previous studio albums to date, American indie stars Pinegrove begin the new decade with their debut for Rough Trade. Described by lead singer Evan Stephens Hall as bearing a “heart-first” perspective, Marigold is the most ambitious take on their distinctive blend of folk, indie and country yet, as well as being their most empathetic and humanistic.

Roy Montgomery
Scenes From The South Island

An expanded double-vinyl re-issue of Scenes From The South Island, the cult classic debut album from New Zealand’s guitar experimentalist Roy Montgomery (The Pin Group, Dissolve et al.). Originally released in 1995 on San Francisco label Drunken Fish Records, these instrumentals take in all kinds of moods and sounds at the intersection of post-rock and rural psychedelia. Now, it’s re-packaged with three bonus tracks courtesy of Liz Harris's (Grouper) Yellow Electric label.

Six Organs of Admittance
Companion Rises

Guitarist Ben Chasny returns with a new Six Organs Of Admittance album, Companion Rises. It his first since 2017’s Burning The Threshold in what is a well populated back catalogue. The album develops on the groove he created on tracks such as Taken By Ascent from Burning The Threshold. It also sees Chasny reverting back to analogue lo-fi recording techniques of his earlier work.

Taeha Types
Mechanical Keyboard Sounds: Recordings of Bespoke and Customised Mechanical Keyboards

Keyboards. We use them every day.... I'm using one now but I've never ever thought of pimping it. In fact there is a whole scene out there of people who are enhancing their keyboards by all manner of ways to give a better feel, a better sound when you type on them. Taeha Types is the king of this scene and Trunk (who else) invite you to listen to this album featuring enhanced keyboards from the '80s and '90s and beyond. It's a whole new thing for people to get all madly obsessed by.

Torres
Silver Tongue

Fernando Torres has retired from professional football, but don’t worry, he hasn’t embarked on a musical career. No, this is Torres, AKA McKenzie Scott and Silver Tongue is her fourth album. This the first album she has produced by herself after previously collaborating with PJ Harvey cohort Rob Ellis. Expect a mix of guitars and synths, sparkling new wave sounds some irresistible hooks and the odd brooding number all about the journey of love.

XTC
Skylarking

Now the stuff of legend, XTC were holed up with eccentric producer Todd Rundgren for this 1986 album in which band and producer battled, sniped and argued throughout. You'd never guess listening to the more pastoral parts of the record and despite what the band think, it's a really great album. This version is the reverse polarity edition which sorted out some of the original album's sound issues. Also includes notorious US hit 'Dear God' which was inexplicably left off the original album.
