Fu Manchu
Live At Roadburn 2003

Californian stoner rockers Fu Manchu blew the roof off Roadburn Festival in 2003, despite the lack of roof. They were that good. Live At Roadburn 2003 shows them previewing a couple of tracks from the, then forthcoming, album Start The Machine whilst also finding time to dust off classics such as Squash That Fly, Hell On Wheels, Boogie Van and King Of The Road.

Kungens Man
Hart Som Ben

Appearing just nine months after their last album Chef, Swedish electronic experimentalists - with the mentalist emphasised - Kungens Man return with another full-length. The result of a three-day stay in the country’s iconic Silence Studio, the five tracks of Hårt Som Ben were whittled down from around 13 hours of music.

Beauty and The Beat

Edan went from the old skool hip-hop simplicity of his brilliant debut, Primitive Plus to an epic exploration of sound, genre and style with his second album, Beauty and the Beat. It was originally released in 2005 to great critical acclaim. Features guest appearances from Percee P, Mr. Lif  and Dagha.

Royal Trux
Quantum Entanglement

Throughout their long career, recently reconvened indie-rock cult icons Royal Trux have always believed that rock ‘n’ roll is there to be messed with, not revered. After this year’s triumphant long-playing return White Stuff - their first new material in 19 years - Neil Hagerty and Jennifer Herrema present the group’s first career-spanning compilation, Quantum Entanglement, presented on limited edition yellow vinyl.

The Hold Steady
Four on Ten

Four brand new tracks presented on a 10” EP from Brooklyn’s alternative rock veterans The Hold Steady. Functionally titled Four On Ten (geddit?), it follows up the group’s seventh studio album Thrashing Thru The Passion that appeared just a couple of months back, which presented a different formula for the group that emphasised space and economy over Springstonian anthemic angst.

Albert Hammond Jr.
Off Cycle

While all the talk has recently been about a Strokes reformation after their triumphant set at All Points East this summer, the band’s guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. quietly releases a brand new 10” single. It’s released on Red Bull Records, the imprint that delivered his last solo album Francis Trouble last year.

Raymond Scott
The Jingle Workshop: Midcentury Musical Miniatures 1951-1965

In operation from virtually the conception of TV and radio advertisement as a mass art form, Raymond Scott was a slyly subversive master of the ‘jingle’. This limited edition blue and gold coloured double-vinyl compilation, The Jingle Workshop: Midcentury Musical Miniatures 1951-1965, collects dozens of Scott’s weird earworm compositions, accompanied with a zine-esque insert and a 1964 interview with the artist himself.

Julia Kent
Green and Grey (Expanded)

Oh no. We're getting releases already for Black Friday. But the good news is that this Julia Kent record might be worth getting. It is her second album from 2011 on vinyl for the first time including the 'Last Day in July' EP and two unreleased tracks. You may know by know the sound of Kent's looped cello which she places amongst electronics and field recordings and if not this could be a good place to start.

Nick Lowe & Wilco
Cruel To Be Kind (40th Anniversary Edition)

Originally a UK Top 20 hit when released at the end of 1979, Nick Lowe’s ‘Cruel To Be Kind’ became one of the cult singer-songwriter’s most well-known songs. This special 40th anniversary version is pressed on green 7” vinyl, and pairs the original version with a live duet in accompaniment with American indie-rock heroes Wilco, recorded on tour in 2012, on the B-side.

The Wrens

Will the Wrens ever make a new record? That is the question many people are still asking. While you wait you could do worse than check out again their debut Silver originally released in 2005. Its blend of shoegaze and indie-rock slowly but surely gave the band a large cult audience who lap up the slithers of music the band have unleashed since. Comes on coke bottle clear vinyl.

The Odd Czar Against Us

7L, Esoteric and Inspectah Deck return as hip-hop supergroup Czarface. Their new album, The Odd Czar Against Us is being released on never-to-be-repressed green vinyl with exclusive artwork for Black Friday. Musically, you can expect a few surprises from the group but quality beats and flow are guaranteed.

Miles Davis
Miles In Tokyo: Miles Davis Live In Concert

Only five out of ten for the non Miles pun album title but otherwise this is a luxury issue of a cracking Miles Davis set from his first ever Japanese tour in 1964. It's the only document of Miles Davis and Sam Rivers blowing together and there's further stellar support in Herbie Hancock (piano), Ron Carter  (double bass), and Tony Williams (drums). Issued for Black Friday 2019.

Patsy Cline
Sweet Dreams: The Complete Decca Studio Masters 1960-1963

Jack White’s Third Man Records presents this box set of three re-mastered albums and 51 tracks from country music legend Patsy Cline, spanning the four year period she spent on Decca Records with producer Owen Bradley. Sweet Dreams: The Complete Decca Studio Masters (1960-1963) constitutes the very best of her storied discography.

Dr. John

Babylon was Dr. John’s follow-up to his classic debut Gris-Gris. It was recorded to a backdrop of political and civil unrest with the Vietnam war ongoing and the deaths of Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy fresh in the memory. Dr. John was also being pursued by police for a number of misdemeanors. This heavy time for the good doctor found him mixing the swampy voodoo blues of his first album with free jazz and Beefheart-influenced avant-garde elements.

Tenacious D
Blue Series 7"

America's favorite tongue-and-cheek rock duo Tenacious D finally make a return with 'Blue Series 7' - their first 7" single in thirteen years. Hilarious and a champion of power chords, this release stays true to the outfit's style - typically flicking their 'Vs' at the serious singer-songwriter mentality.

The American In Me

Californian punk legends The Avengers were one of the very first American groups of the genre to make an impact, supporting the Sex Pistols at their legendary final gig in San Francisco in January 1978. Former Pistols guitarist Steve Cook took them under his wing and offered to produce a session with them, and this three-track 7” single puts together the results. The EP version of calling-card track ‘The American In Me’ is matched up with ‘Uh-Oh’ and ‘Cheap Tragedies’, the latter formerly only available via compilation.

Rhythm Showcase Vol. 1

Daptone Records present a delightful set of rarities from their friends and family. Acts including NYC Afrobeat legends Antibalas, Daptone stoner-soul favourites The Budos Band, Africa 70 member Pax Nicholas and Moroccan gnawa trailblazer Innov Gnawa all contribute some unreleased/lesser-known nuggets to ‘Rhythm Showcase Vol. 1’.

Herbie Hancock

Jazz-fusion classic Directstep by the legendary Herbie Hancock was originally only released in Japan in 1979 and has been out of print for the best part of 40 years. So, unless you were lucky / wealthy / old enough to bag yourself an expensive Japanese import back in the day, you’ll be wanting this reissue. Includes reworked versions of Butterfly and I Thought It Was You along with new track Shiftless Shuffle.

Robert Johnson
Sweet Home Chicago / Walkin' Blues

Robert Johnson started out as a ‘pretty good’ harmonica player. Despite the advice of blues legend Son House, Johnson persisted with learning the guitar, selling his soul to the devil, as the story goes, and became a delta blues master. Sweet Home Chicago / Walkin’ Blues is available as 10” microgroove 78rpm single that plays on standard turntables somehow. Reproduction sleeve and labels.

Stillmatic was the fifth album by rapper and ex-husband of Kelis, Nas. It was originally released in 2001. Unlike his previous Gangsta Rap output, Stillmatic finds him in a philosophical mood rapping about ghetto life and his bust-up with former pal Jay-Z. The album, a  sequel to his 1994 debut Illmatic, was regarded as a return to form.

San Francisco's First And Only Rock 'N' Roll Band: Live 1978

Characterised by their high intensity rock 'n' roll arrangements, along with their slick aesthetics, Crime are still a punky West Coast treasure in the US. This live version of their 1978 'San Francisco's First And Only Rock 'N' Roll Band' is a 35 minute time capsule containing one of the band's raucous live shows.

Jonathan Fire*Eater
Wolf Songs For Lambs

Jonathan Fire*Eater were almost the next big thing in US underground rock. They signed to Dreamworks, opened for Pulp and inspired the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Interpol but never made it big time. A couple of them went on to do pretty well in the Walkmen and one of them died. Regulation stuff. But now Jack White himself asks you to look back on their career with a series of vinyl re-issues on Third Man. Wolf Songs For Lambs was their debut album which though spurned at the time, has found followers in later life.
