Cigarettes After Sex
Cry

Promising more blissful, narcoleptic dream-pop after the success of his early singles, Greg Gonzalez delivers his second Cigarettes After Sex album, Cry. Recorded and finessed by Gonzalez himself during sessions in the middle of the night in Spain, it’s another suite of meditations on intimacy and heartbreak.

Cult of Luna
A Dawn to Fear

Get yourself strapped in for the big one from heavy, heavy post metallers Cult of Luna as they take you on a 79 minute rollercoaster ride through their ominous atmospheres and pummelling riffs. The fact that they only manage eight songs in this time tells you all you need to know about the crushing slo-mo churns and brooding orchestrated blasts of post-rock from these long term heavies. For the uninitiated think Neurosis, Isis or the heavier end of the post- rock spectrum.

Floating Points
Crush

Recorded during an intense, deliberately restricted five-week window rather than the years it took to make his 2015 debut Elaenia, Sam Shepherd has announced his second Floating Points album Crush. Inspired by his massive 2017 shows supporting The xx, this record is much more immediate than previous work, as demonstrated by lead single ‘LesAlpx’ released earlier this year.

Jim Jones and the Righteous Mind
Get Down Get With It

Jim Jones (Thee Hypnotics, the Jim Jones Revue etc) and pals return with a slab of explosive garage rock and one of the most popular racket slices played on their recent tour. Get Down Get With It has already been a hit for such legends as Little Richard and Slade and is a call to arms to stop moping in the corner about the state of the world and get your feet on the dancefloor. Limited 7" vinyl for independent stores only.

Kim Petras
Turn Off The Light Vol. 1

The third mixtape from rapidly ascending pop star Kim Petras is getting a release on special neon pink vinyl. Inspired by Halloween and dropped on October 31st last year, the eight tracks of Turn Off The Light Vol. 1 have an enjoyable sense of cartoonish power, and presaged the quality of her 2019 debut proper Clarity.

Moor Mother
Analog Fluids of Sonic Black Holes

Moor Mother is Philadelphia musician and poet Camae Ayewa who has previously collaborated with The Bug and Justin Broadrick (Godflesh etc). This should give you some idea of where she's coming from with this her third album under the Moor Mother moniker. She uses elements of free jazz, noise, rap, reggae and industrial music to create freeform splurges and matches them with explosive subject matter on subjects such as police brutality and enslavement. Another dark missive from the undergrowth from one of today's most thought provoking artists.

Skinny Puppy
VIVI Sect VI

VIVI Sect VI (Vivisect Six) was the fourth album by Canadian electro-industrial band Skinny Puppy. At the time, 1988, it was the band’s most refined sounding album. It was regarded as their best album by many critics. Lyrically it dealt with animal rights, chemical warfare and environmental issues.

Slowdive
Souvlaki

A much needed reissue of Slowdive’s second album, Souvlaki from 1993. Hailed as their best album, it doesn’t take long to see why; the classics are on here and they’re ready to make your eyes glaze over, your shoulders slump and your whole body just sink under the bed covers as their blissed, reverbing hot air balloon of sound gently takes you away. Played early in the morning, in the dark, after some booze for best effects.     CD comes as a 2 disk pack with extra tunes and two remixes.

Smog
Knock Knock

Knock Knock. Who is there? Bill. Bill who? Bill from Knaresborough....the Smog guy. Ah. That terrible sleeve adorns a work of rich majesty that now enjoys a 20th anniversary re-issue. Smog's previous album Red Apple Falls showcased the singer using ever more adventurous recording techniques and actual singing to showcase his rich brown autumnal songs. Knock Knock is a beaut. He's the Leonard Cohen of the '90s and a ladies man to match.

Special Request
Offworld

The third of four albums expected in 2019 alone by Leeds producer Special Request, a.k.a. Paul Woolford. From his residency at legendary Leeds house night Back To Basics to his involvement on the soundtrack of Blade Runner 2049, Woolford’s artistry is hugely diverse, and this latest double-album Offworld is another demonstration of that.

Sunn O)))
Pyroclasts

We will look back at 2019 as the year in which Sunn O))) released as many album as they played chords. 'Pyroclasts' follows 'Life Metal' and is pitched as the earlier record's "shadow album". Presumably this means it will not stop until it has destroyed that which casts it. A bit like Dark Link in Zelda. Heavy and slow, you know the drill.

The Raincoats
The Raincoats (40th Anniversary Edition)

Luckily for record labels everywhere, a lot of good music was released in 1979 so we have plenty of 40th Anniversary re-issues to look forward to this year. The latest is the debut LP from the Raincoats, their spindly surprisingly tuneful art-rock influenced generations of future legends such as Kurt Cobain and Kim Gordon and is now available on marble vinyl, re-mastered from the original tapes with limited edition prints from founding members Gina Birch and Ana Da Silva.
