Angel Olsen
All Mirrors

On her fourth album, All Mirrors, Angel Olsen shows us her darkest side. Its introspective nature was an important step for Olsen. Through its brooding tones and lyrics she tells us about learning to trust yourself and move on, find peace in your own company. Valuable lessons, perhaps. On Jagjaguwar.

Arab Strap
The Week Never Starts Round Here

Hold up -- it's Arab Strap's first ever record. Without any of the reservations and noble ideas the band would go on to incorporate, The Week Never Starts Round Here sees the band offer fourteen tracks of more innocuous alt rock that still betrays their sensibilities for post-rock and instrumental experimentation.

Barry Gray
UFO (Original Television Soundtrack)

Presented on double-lilac vinyl, this is the original soundtrack to short-lived television series ‘UFO’, the first-ever live-action series from Gerry and Sylvia Anderson - yes, the people behind ‘Thunderbirds’, ‘Captain Scarlet’ et al - and which aired between 1970 and 1973. Composed by inimitable Barry Gray with his trademark dramatics!

Codes In The Clouds
Codes In The Clouds

Codes In The Clouds eponymous album is their third. It’s taken six years to make - three years spent writing and recording and three years in post-production. It wasn’t just their desire to make things more detailed than on previous records, but the band members have had more going on in their personal lives. Whatever happened in those six years be it joyous, heartbreaking or otherwise, they’ve left it all on this record.

Dinosaur Jr.
Where You Been (Deluxe Expanded Edition)

Where You Been was the fifth album by Dinosaur Jr. It is regarded as one of their best and by many as one of the best albums of the 1990s. It was originally released in February 1993. Upon its release, Melody Maker raised the question, “Do we have the album of the year already?” It contains one of the band’s greatest songs in Start Choppin’. The Country-grunge crossover, Get Me was also released as a single. Essential stuff.

Lana Del Rey
Norman Fucking Rockwell!

Geographically confused chanteuse Lana Del Rey returns with her sixth album and her first since she discovered swearing. She's pictured on the cover cavorting with none other than the grandson of Jack Nicholson and possibly as a matter of note I should say that it contains fourteen new songs most co-written with fun.'s Jack Antonoff. Buy your copy from Norman Fucking Records.

Mikal Cronin
Seeker

Mikal Cronin, pal of Ty Segal, has done a Justin Vernon. Following a bit of a rough time in his personal life, he took off to a cabin in the woods with his cat. After getting the space he needed, Seeker became a thing. He wrote and demoed most of his fourth LP there before a forest fire made him flee. He’s also dropped the number as album name formula that has seemingly worked for him previously. The recording of the album was heavily influenced by The Beatles’ White Album.

Ministry
Filth Pig

Filth Pig is the sixth album by industrial metalers Ministry. It originally saw the light of day way back in 1996. I must be getting old because I always think of Filth Pig as one of their recent albums. The title comes from the mouth of Tory stuffed shirt, Teddy Taylor MP, who described Ministry main man, Al Jourgensen, as a 'filth pig' in the Houses of Parliament. Jourgensen must have been mortified.

Portico Quartet
Memory Streams

Former Mercury Prize nominees Portico Quartet deliver their fifth studio album. While the London band have always strived to differentiate their sound from record to record, 'Memory Streams' may represent the most dramatic sonic shift yet, embracing ambient and electronic influences into their minimalistic jazz approach.

Richard Dawson
2020

Despite album artwork and a title that seem like they belong to an Ed Sheeran record, '2020' in fact belongs to the UK's other great singer songwriter slash troubadour. I am of course talking about the wonderful Richard Dawson, who has helped drag the UK folk tradition into 2020 and beyond.

Telefon Tel Aviv
Dreams Are Not Enough

Telefon Tel Aviv's 2001 era album Fahrenheit Fair Enough was to these ears one of the greatest electronic albums of the era. Two further albums followed but following the death of founder member Charlie Cooper in 2009  Telefon Tel Aviv ceased trading. Now over a decade later, surviving member Josh Eustis has re-ignited the project for a long awaited fourth album. If it's even half as good as that debut then we are all in for a treat.

The Distillers
Coral Fang

Full of scathing attitude and razor-sharp hooks, Coral Fang was the major-label debut for Brody Dalle’s sometimes-forgotten band The Distillers in 2003, winning them a whole new fanbase and delivering them their first proper hits. Sadly, it all went downhill for the group afterwards as they split in 2006.

The Go! Team
Thunder, Lightning, Strike

The Go Team's 2004 debut arrived like a hurricane with insanely catchy tunes mixing indie-pop, soul, funk and hip-hop into a life affirming sonic stew. Now 15 years later it gets the re-issue treatment and unsurprisingly it sounds just as fresh today as when it first burst out of the traps. For the uninitiated, think a more indie-pop fixated the Avalanches. Fun all the way.

Throbbing Gristle
Throbbing Gristle's Greatest Hits

Like the title of '20 Jazz Funk Greats', 'Throbbing Gristle's Greatest Hits' is named with tongue poked firmly in cheek. They of course had no 'hits' as such but they did basically invent industrial music. Mostly terrifying, they weren't averse to the odd stab at disco on tracks like 'Hot on the Heels of Love'.
