Calexico and Iron & Wine
Years to Burn

Alt-country heroes Calexico reunite with Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam a full 14 years after their 2005 EP In The Reins, this time for an entire eight-track studio album. Recorded in Nashville with esteemed producer Matt Ross-Spang in just five days, Years To Burn adds even more elements to their previously established musical compound.

Cate Le Bon
Reward

You know what? Everything Cate Le Bon involves herself in is of interest. Le Bon’s previous work has encompassed all manner of sounds and quirks; think pop music with a difference. The far-afield sounds of psychedelia, art pop, indie rock and pop meet with wistful guitar lines, fanciful vocals, intriguing lyrics and melodies which skip and wander. Quirky and beautiful songs, delivered with Le Bon's distinct Welsh Valleys lilt.

Craig Leon
Anthology Of Interplanetary Folk Music Vol. 2: The Canon

Craig Leon (who produced the first Ramones and Suicide albums!) revisits the ideas he established on his 80s records. Along with regular collaborator Cassell Webb, Leon explores the abstract and the alien to near euphoric effect. Anthology Of Interplanetary Folk Music Vol. 2: The Canon has been a long time coming. It was worth the wait. On RVNG Intl.

dbh
Mood

dbh made quite a stir both within and outside of the confines of these walls with his third album Mass so we're very happy that we have another chance to hear his second album again which has been re-pressed onto vinyl and CD. The musician (also known as Dan? Dave?) is adept at finger picked solo guitar pieces that owe as much to Vini Reilly as they do Michael Chapman.

Emmy The Great
First Love

A 10th anniversary vinyl re-issue of First Love, which was a slow-burning success story for Emma-Lee Moss, a.k.a. Emmy The Great, when released as her debut album in early 2009. The new edition is accompanied by new liner notes written by Moss herself, plus a digital download code for the full album and a handful of bonus tracks.

epic45
Sun Memory

epic45 are very good at remembering their youthful summers in the countryside. They have built a pretty successful career out of sun-dappled faded reminiscences with soft focus guitars and hushed vocals. This EP is almost an addendum to their recent Through Broken Summer LP and contains outtakes, alternate versions and some brand new tracks.

Gang of Four
Happy Now

Post-punk icons Gang Of Four return with their ninth studio album HAPPY NOW, funded by their considerable fanbase via PledgeMusic. Already trailed by a download-only EP last year titled Complicit and a single a few months back ‘Paper Thin’, this new effort, available on CD as well as vinyl, promises the same political urgency as ever.

Glen Hansard
This Wild Willing

This particular Norman Records™ description writer initially read the title of Glen Hansard’s new LP as This Wild Willy, which would have really been something if it were true. It’s not though - it’s called This Wild Willing and it’s another set of well-heeled, classic-sounding rock and folk tunes from the Once actor. Among this run of Van Morrison-isms we get the occasional sky-scraping post-rock atmosphere, which is cool. Free willy.

Haress
Haress

Shropshire duo Haress decided the best way to celebrate their first album was to record it with a bunch of their mates. Luckily for them their list of mates reads like a who's who of UK psychedelic music and so the result is an extremely fine example of the genre. Glory through repetition, and the embrace of imperfection.

Ian Broudie
Tales Told

Ian Broudie’s The Lightning Seeds spawned a dazzling run of pure-pop hits in the Nineties, but when the band collapsed following their dismal 1999 outing Tilt, their frontman was left drifting. Released originally in 2004, Broudie’s stripped-down first solo outing Tales Told saw him reveal a very different side of his artistry, and now it’s released on vinyl for the first time.

Jim Williams
A Field in England (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Fresh re-release of Jim Williams’ gripping soundtrack to Ben Wheatley’s 2013 psychological horror film A Field In England. The original run was limited to just 400 copies, but this 2xLP version on frosted clear vinyl makes one of the most enervating original movie scores of recent times much more widely available.

Josephine Wiggs
We Fall

Josephine Wiggs, most famously of wonderful Boston band The Breeders, has released a few albums under different guises over the years. She has never let genre prevent her from doing what she wants. We Fall, her latest album, is no exception. She takes influences from Eno’s Another Green World, Alva Noto, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Harold Budd. LP and CD on Sound Of Sinners.

Laura Cannell
The Sky Untuned

Violins with alternative tunings? What ever next? The Sky Untuned by Laura Cannell uses violins alternative tunings and two recorders to make her minimalist fifth album. It was recorded live in a church in Norfolk. If you like Colin Stetson, Sarah Davachi, Sarah Neufield or Richard Dawson, among others, you should check this out. CD on Brawl Records.

Mort Garson
Mother Earth's Plantasia

Mort Garson was a pioneer of electronic music in the 1960s and an early user of Robert Moog's synthesizer. 'Plantasia' released in 1976 added warmth to the previously darker and colder melodies of earlier electronic releases. By turn playful, surreal or sinister, this is a diverse collection of sounds from a true innovator.

Peggy Gou
Moment EP

The enterprising Peggy Gou kick-starts her new Gudu Records label with a two-track release. This Moment EP immediately locks into the style that is rapidly becoming Gou’s signature sound. Crisp, buoyant house rhythms ala West End Records, chunky pianos and Gou’s dreamy vocals are the order of the day once more. Expect Moment’s title track to be one of the songs of Summer 2019.

Peter Perrett
Humanworld

Permanently sunglassed former the Only Ones frontman Peter Perrett had not been seen for many years before he returned with 2017s  How The West Was Won and now he's back again with Humanworld which as with his previous record was recorded with the help of his two sons Jamie and Peter Jr. Truly the renaissance man of post punk.

Richard Barbieri
Stranger Inside

Richard Barbieri was of course the keyboard player in Japan.. Since then he's had a decent enough career on his own with plenty of solo work and playing keyboards for Porcupine Tree. This is his 2008 solo album on vinyl for the first time which features guest spots from an array of characters including Steve Jansen (Japan) and Danny Thompson (Pentangle etc)

Sacred Paws
Run Around The Sun

Run Around The Sun is the sophomore album by Scottish indie-pop duo, Sacred Paws. It is the follow-up to their Scottish Album of the Year-winning album Strike A Match. You may have caught their upbeat single 'Brush Your Hair' on 6 Music, which is representative of their sound. If you like bands such as Shopping and Girl Ray, it would be sensible of you to give this a go.

Sleaford Mods
Discourse

‘Discourse’, the third single from Sleaford Mods’ recent UK Top 10 album Eton Alive, released on 7” white vinyl and backed with the previously unreleased title track of that LP on its B-side. Jason Williamson is in fine vocal form as ever, spitting pent-up social observations over an equally tense backdrop of fast-paced bpms.

Stephen Duffy
I Love My Friends

While it made very little commercial impression at the time, former Duran Duran co-founder and The Lilac Time member Stephen Duffy garnered rave reviews, and a cult following including a certain Robbie Williams, for his emotionally raw 1998 solo album I Love My Friends. Just over two decades later, it receives a well-deserved release on vinyl for the first time ever.

The Fall
Live At The Witch Trials

Originally released through the legendary punk label Step-Forward in 1979, Live At The Witch Trials by The Fall finally gets the reissue treatment for a new generation of fans. As a debut album it’s rugged and repetitive forging the template that Mark E. Smith would become famous for. Out on 2CD and 180 gram vinyl from Castle Music and Sanctuary.

Viagra Boys
Street Worms

Viagra Boys are another of those scuzzy Scandi punk bands. There’s been plenty of excitement around the Stockholm group these past few years, and debut LP Street Worms demonstrates why. This is ramshackle, wiry and drily witty post-punk in the vein of Fat White Family and Devo. Street Worms is out on YEAR001 (Yung Lean, Bladee).

VR Sex
Human Traffic Jam

LA deathrock/synthpunk/post-punk/ethereal soundscape pointillists VR SEX (Andrew Clinco of Drab Majesty, Aaron Montaigne of Antioch Arrow and others; and Brian Tarney) have just about had it with overpopulation. The technological perfection of simulating sexual experience ought to be just the thing to take it down a notch. Human Traffic Jam is the trio’s view on the subject, expressed through the medium of fiercely cool music.
