Nocturnal Projections

Aphex Twin
Selected Ambient Works 85-92

Not sure that you need us to introduce this one to you. The album that broke Aphex Twin to the masses (relatively speaking), Selected Ambient Works 85-92 starts with two genuinely sublime pieces of music, ‘Xtal’ and ‘Tha’, which your collection literally cannot be without. The whole thing is great though, whether for solo listening late at night or for esoteric dancefloors. An absolute classic.

Wire
Chairs Missing

Wire's second album has now, belatedly, got the re-issue treatment. 'Chairs Missing' expanded the short, sharp art-rock of their debut 'Pink Flag' into something more rounded and experimental, particularly in terms of their song structure. The CD editions come with bonus discs of so many demos that you won't know what to do with them.

Blue Hawaii
Blooming Summer

Sold out - sorry!

Jeremy Enigk
The Return Of The Frog Queen

Really really great album. This was Jeremy Enigk's first solo album away from Sunny Day Real Estate and it's a totally different kettle of kippers. This is wonderful baroque orchestral-pop with strings and all sorts putting me in mind of Cardinal and Richard Davies. This re-issue comes with the remastered original album plus bonus digital stuff.

Boyracer
Fling Yr Bonnet Over The Windmill (The Sarah Singles)

Boyracer have released many records over the years but some of the best things occurred when they were signed to Sarah Records. Always an odd fit with the label's more poetic stance, Boyracer were always a punk band if a romantic one. This collection compiles the three singles they recorded for Sarah in the early '90s.

Bark Psychosis
Codename: Dustsucker

Following on from the re-issue of their classic 'Hex' here is a re-press of their much overlooked follow up 'Codename: Dustsucker'. Though at this point Bark Psychosis were really just frontman Graham Sutton this is a strong follow up retaining the same eerie late night atmospheres and adding in more obvious hints of shoegaze. Talk Talk's Lee Harris guests on an album that will appeal to fans of the late work of his band and that of Slowdive.

Wire
Pink Flag

Like many great albums of yesteryear, Wire’s debut, Pink Flag did very little commercially at the time of its release in 1977. It has fortunately and rightly since been awarded ‘classic’ status by fans and critics alike. Elastica also owe this album a debt of gratitude, check out Three Girl Rhumba.  Available as special edition, remastered 2CD with book on Pink Flag, demos and alternative mixes, remastered vinyl LP and standard digipak remastered CD.

Stars Of The Lid
Gravitational Pull vs The Desire for an Aquatic Life

Gravitational Pull vs. the Desire for an Aquatic Life is, I have to say, a pretty fantastically appropriate title for a Stars of the Lid album. Captures the elemental, slow-moving feel of their drone compositions, not to mention their profound beauty. This is their second album, from 1996, on Kranky Records.

Bruce Springsteen
Tunnel Of Love

Tunnel Of Love by Bruce Springsteen was originally released in 1987 and is highly regarded by critics and fans alike. Whilst not credited on the album, members of his regular backing band, The E Street Band, such as Nils Lofgren, Clarence Clemons and Patti Scialfa do play on the album. The Boss did play more than his usual fair share of the tracks alone, however, using drums machines and synths. Contains the hit Brilliant Disguise. Remastered from original analogue tapes, 2LP set on Columbia.

David Sylvian & Holger Czukay
Plight & Premonition Flux & Mutability

The man once dubbed the Most Beautiful Man In The World...and ...er.. David Sylvian collaborated way back in the mid '80s on these two LPs in Can's home place of Koln in bleak midwinter. At the time record companies weren't bothered about such esoteric collaborations so now is a good time to revisit what the pair were up to. These beatless almost airless ambient albums  have now been collected together on a much needed re-issue and remastered for hopefully a more welcoming world.

Spacemen 3
Dreamweapon

Dreamweapon by Spacemen 3 documents the time they played live in the foyer of Watermans Art Centre in Brentford at a screening of the Wim Wenders film Wings of Desire. The audience didn’t care for it too much but the 45 minute set of droning guitars will sure please fans of the band. This reissue includes outtakes from 1987 that were recorded in the lead up to the making of the Playing With Fire album. Double LP and CD, which comes in a fancy 6 panel card sleeve that the press release feels the need to tell us is shrink wrapped!

Japan
Gentlemen Take Polaroids

David Sylvian fronted new wave synth-pop outfit Japan’s fourth studio album Gentlemen Take Polaroids was originally released on Virgin in 1980, and was their first album with the label. This half-speed mastered reissue is available as a single LP as per the original, or a 2LP edition cut at 45 RPM. Defining avant-synth-pop in hi-def.

The Future Sound Of London
Lifeforms

It's excellent to see such a seminal work still deserving reissue treatment. Future Sound of London's 1994 masterpiece is a timeless collage of synthesised and environmental sounds, standing at the centre of the duo's vast contribution to electronic music history. If you don't already own it, time to make a change.

The Fall
I Am Kurious Oranj

In 1988 The Fall, in collaboration with the Michael Clark Company, staged an experimental ballet about William of Orange's ascension to the throne. Mark E Smith and co. handled the music side of things and the ensuing album was christened I Am Kurious Oranj. Reissued by Beggars Banquet to celebrate the album's 30th anniversary.

B12
Time Tourist (Expanded Edition)

A classic of Warp’s golden era, B12’s 1996 album Time Tourist gets a landmark twenty-second anniversary reissue, including a few newly-unearthed alt versions for posterity. Michael Golding’s and Steve Rutter’s glistening, FM pad-drenched ambient IDM went all-in on the retrofuturistic sci-fi narratives for this one, topped off as they are with referential titles and Trevor Webb’s massive painted cover art. Excellent.

SWANS
Soundtracks For The Blind

Soundtracks For The Blind was the final Swans album before their break up in 1996 and when the band reformed in 2010 this was the one Michael Gira referred to in order to push the band forward. Already a sprawling varied epic of an album, this reissue has been expanded to include the rare German language EP Die Tür Ist Zu (CD only alas), as well as some lavish packaging treats. 3CD and 4LP editions on Mute.

Hiroshi Yoshimura
Music For Nine Postcards

Hiroshi Yoshimura was a pioneer of environmental music, a parallel to Brian Eno. Yoshimura created ambient music to fit with physical spaces, music to be in and live through. .'Music For Nine Postcards' is keyboard and Rhodes played sweetly and softly - simples. The first vinyl reissue since its original release in 1982 comes with full reproduction of original artwork and sleeve, plus new liner notes.
