African Head Charge
Enviornmental Holes & Drastic Tracks: 1981 - 1986

African Head Charge was the collaboration between Jamaican percussion master Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah and English dub-maestro Adrian Sherwood (selectah), using studio wizardry to construct “a psychedelic Africa”. Environmental Holes & Drastic Tracks: 1981-1986 compiles their four albums from that period, plus a disc of very rare extra bonus material. CD box-set on On-U Sound.

Various versions available including super 6CD box set that you will only be able to afford if you are Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Charles Mingus
Jazz in Detroit / Strata Concert Gallery / 46 Selden

A real bumper haul from the Charles Mingus vaults here. The widow of late drummer Roy Brooks had these concert tapes in her care for many years. Only now are they seeing the light of day. Recorded during a week-long residency at Detroit's Strata Concert Gallery in 1973, the five shows here are from a short period when Mingus had John Stubblefield in his band on sax duties. The resulting performances, broadcast at the time on WDET FM, see Mingus and his group bossing the joint night after night.

Coldcut x On-U Sound
Outside The Echo Chamber

Check this out: a remarkable collaboration between the legendary Coldcut and the legendary producer Adrian Sherwood (aka On-U Sound)! And that’s not all: Outside The Echo Chamber also contains guest spots from the heavyweight likes of Roots Manuva and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry! Yum yum. Available on CD or on a special box-set of eight 7”s. On Ahead Of Our Time.

D.A.F.
DAS IST DAF

Gabi Delgado and Robert Görl fronted Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft (D.A.F.) were an experimental electronic/electro/industrial group active from 1979 until the late 80s, proclaiming they had fulfilled the concept. For fans of Kraftwerk, Laibach etc. this collection houses four albums with a bonus vinyl of remixes (including Boys Noize and Giorgio Moroder) as well as two unreleased tracks, and a load of goodies.

David Attenborough
My Field Recordings from Across the Planet

The People’s Princess aka David Attenborough releases a collection of field recordings that he made in the ‘50s and ‘60s. Surprisingly this set is more Alan Lomax than Chris Watson - many of the tracks here are tapes of indigenous musics from Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Madagascar and many other places Attenborough went on his travels. My Field Recordings From Across The Globe comes with photographs and extensive liner notes.

David Bowie
A New Career In A New Town (1977 – 1982)

Calling all very rich Bowie fans, you are in for a treat. This collection compiles all his albums between 1977 and 1982 which of course takes in his now classic 'Berlin Trilogy'. Not only that but 'Lodger' has been remixed by Tony Visconti and includes a bonus collection of single versions, non-album singles, b-sides and songs featured on soundtracks. Photos and stuff too. Imagine if all of these re-issues had happened and he hadn't died?

David Bowie
Glastonbury 2000

It's almost hard to fathom almost 20 years on that David Bowie's hair was so long and luxurious at his show at Glastonbury in 2000. But there you can see is pictorial evidence of it's length and lustre. It's only one reason why his performance was so legendary that night. Now for the first time you can hear (or see) the entire show which has never been broadcast in it's entirety. There's also bits and bats of extras too like David's diary from the night and a reprint of Caitlin Moran's original review of the show.

David Firth
Umbilical World

David Firth is a British animator probably best known for 'Salad Fingers', a creepy little short that was passed around my secondary school like a filthy rumour. Umbilical World is a retrospective of the last 13 years of his work, collected as one horrifying and alluring feature length. Also features a making of and audio commentary.

Diana Ross and the Supremes
Supreme Rarities: Motown Lost & Found

Jack White’s Third Man label are dabbling with the mainstream. Working with record industry behemoths Universal they have packaged their 2008 double CD release of Diana Ross & The Supremes - Supreme Rarities: Motown Lost & Found as a spectacular 4 LP box set. It has the honour of being the first Motown record to be pressed in Motor City itself. You'll hear them cover The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and Stevie Wonder along with 45 other tracks.

Digable Planets
Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time and Space) - 25th Anniversary Edition

Finally: a reissue of Digable Planets’ 1993 debut, Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time and Space)! It's the first time the record has been on vinyl since those heady days, now expanded to 2 discs. Their laid-back, finger-snappin' jazzy sound spawned the huge hit 'Rebirth Of Slick (Cool Like Dat)' - and - the trio from Brooklyn, NY were awarded a Grammy in 1994.  House in a wide-spined jacket, including a booklet with Larry Mizell Jr's notes and interview of Ishmael “Butterfly” Butler.

Dr. Octagon
Dr. Octagonecologyst

Kool Keith’s filth extraterrestrial character Dr. Octagon is notorious to say the least. Having reunited with Dan The Automator and Q-Bert to celebrate the 21 year anniversary of the release of Dr. Octagon know he has teamed up with Get On Down to present this deliciously deviant dish. Almost 10 tracks on top of the album (5 unreleased) across 3 vinyls housed in an octagonal box with book, a load of pictures and interviews. The glove snaps.

Electronic Sound
Issue 47 & CD Bundle

Latest issue of Electronic Sound, that cool magazine with the crisp graphic design and a focus on some of the most interesting music currently percolating out into the world. This issue has a feature on Burgess / Kubrick’s masterpiece A Clockwork Orange, with a bundled CD that features new and entirely exclusive tracks by big-name synth artists like Chris Carter, Scanner and Gabe Gurnsey! Nice.

Eliane Radigue
Œuvres électroniques

Esteemed French ambient composer Eliane Radigue is honoured with a mammoth set. Œuvres électroniques covers a good chunk of Radigue’s work in the second half of the 20th Century. Up until the year 2000 Radigue had spent thirty years exploring synthesiser composition, working largely with the ARP 2500. The pieces she made tend to shift slowly, with tones slipping slowly from aquatic gurgles to abrasive drones to eerie chords. They’re works that reward patience, and this bumper collection of her output allows the listener to get to know her work intimately. 16 hours of mind-bending pure drone incl. Chry-ptus, Ψ 847, Adnos, Les Chants de Milarepa, Jetsun Mila, Trilogie de la Mort etc.

Erik Satie
Erik Satie & Friends

Celebrating his 150th birthday (dude is getting on) this marvellously expansive collection brings together all the best known work from the legendary piano man from France, though as I read on the press blurb he was actually half Scottish. Within you'll hear all the prototypes for the minimalism we enjoy today as well as music he recorded for adverts, ballets and pretty much everything.

Fela Kuti

It’s a limited edition release so get your skates on Fleet Foxes fans! Box Set on Nonesuch.

Goblin
The Awakening

Oh right, another Goblin reissue is it. What have we got this time? Well, The Awakening is a particularly gluttonous spread from the kings of Italian movie music. Four of the band’s best film scores are included - Dawn Of The Dead, Tenebre, Suspiria and Profondo Rosso - as well as two Goblin LPs (Roller and Il Fantastico Viaggio del Bagarozzo Mark), some non-album singles and various rarities. That’s some excavation job Bella Casa have done.

Gorillaz
Humanz

Damon Albarn and his Gorillaz return in full effect with their fifth album and follow up to 2010’s Plastic Beach. Boasting an incredible list of featured artists including Vince Staples, De La Soul, Danny Brown, Benjamin Clementine, D.R.A.M. and many more.  The standard CD has four random different front cover options – one per band member. Super Deluxe Vinyl Box Set – Strictly limited Box Set containing 14 pieces of 12” coloured vinyl (each one a different colour), packaged in individually art-worked sleeves. GZA
Liquid Swords: Marvel Edition

Liquid Swords needs no introduction. GZA, ‘Cold World’, guest features from everyone else in Wu-Tang, blah blah blah. A pinnacle of '90s hip-hop, the 1995 record still sounds great more than two decades on from its release. On this new Marvel Edition the LP is given a new lick of paint to tie in with the comic book behemoth. Cool new artwork and some nice little extras on both versions.

Jane's Addiction
Sterling Spoon

Butt load of Jane’s Addiction? OK, here you go.. We have..(Deep Breath).. Full studio albums - 1988’s Nothing’s Shocking, and 1990’s Ritual de lo Habitual, concert live recording in the form of Live From The Palladium from 1990 and padded out with some rarities, demos and live slices from their Kettle Whistle Compilation. All across SIX LPs.. Woof. (Breath out)

Jason Williamson
Happy Days

Sleaford Mods lead barker Jason Williamson is back with his third book of stories and things following his lyrics book Grammar Wanker and Slabs From Paradise. This time it's about really grim things like dogging places, shit pubs, appalling housing, twats, people fighting, lowlife scum, arses, really bad precincts, bricks, dogs on housing estates, people sniffing....all that kind of stuff.

Johnny Cash
Unearthed

Unearthed by Johnny Cash finally gets a vinyl release - a spectacular vinyl release at that. 9 LPs presented in a cloth-bound book along with another cloth-bound book containing all-encompassing liner notes by music journalist Sylvie Symons. The remaining music left over from Johnny Cash’s sessions with Rick Rubin was originally released in 2003. The set is a must for any fan, containing duets with Carl Perkins, Tom Petty, Nick Cave, Joe Strummer, Glen Campbell and Fiona Apple.

Kate Bush
Remastered in Vinyl IV

Tantalisingly obscure delights await you within the fourth of the four Kate Bush Remastered in Vinyl box-sets. Two volumes of B-sides, one volume of 12” mixes, and also In Others’ Words, a collection of cover versions (imagine having your song covered by Kate Bush!). Lots of rare wonders then, readily available on vinyl at last.

Kode9 & Burial
FABRICLIVE 100

Here endeth the lesson. The 100th and final edition of Fabric’s Fabriclive CD mix series comes courtesy of two artists who, perhaps above all others, have defined the sound of the London club since the turn of the millenium. Burial’s South London bleakscapes and Kode9’s Hyperdub label have spread their tentacles into nearly every facet of UK club music, and you’d be hard-pressed to argue that any of the other 99 Fabriclive mixes don’t bear their influence in one way or another. Now, as the series rounds out, the pair drop a 37-track mix that shows love to footwork, gqom, jungle, grime and everything in between. Not to be missed.

Liz Phair
Girly-Sound To Guyville: The 25th Anniversary Box Set

It seems we reference Exit to Guyville in every review we write of the new breed of American singer songwriter which makes us either incredibly lazy or that it really is a true landmark album. Bit of both probably. After being out of print for almost ever we now get it back in on a 7 (!) LP box set or 3CD with the bonus of her previously unissued and rather legendary 'Girly Sound' songs.

Lou Reed
The RCA & Arista Album Collection

Please enjoy this enormous motherload of Lou Reed material: the entirety of the album-length work he produced for the RCA and Arista label over the course of 14 years. That’s 16 albums, including hits like Transformer and Street Hassle, experiments like Berlin and super-experiments like Metal Machine Music. 17 CDs, some prints, a poster and an 80-page book. That enough Lou Reed for ya?

Love
Forever Changes (50th Anniversary Edition)

One of the greatest albums of all time reaches 50 but, with multiple re-issues down the line already, what will they squeeze out of it this time? Well you get mono and stereo mixes, an alternate mix, and a disc of outtakes - some of which are actually pretty darned good. Superb pastoral psychedelic pop that has influenced generations. Every home should have one in some format or other.

MAGMA
Retrospektïẁ

In the world of Zeuhl gods Magma, things tend to occur on a large scale, and that’s certainly the case with this remastered Southern Lord boxset. The three volumes of Retrospektïẁ captured a trio of 1980 concerts at the Olympia in Paris. We begin with the debut appearance of Theusz Hamtaahk, the first part of a similarly-titled trilogy. The third part is Mekanik Destruktiw Komandoh, released as a studio album in its own right, and featured in even more explosive form here. The three-LP set is rounded out with a version of Hhai and two more previously unrecorded tracks. A hefty testament to the unique vision of Christian Vander and the fine musicians and vocalists who helped bring that vision to life.

Massive Attack
Mezzanine [2018 Remaster]

Very exciting 20th anniversary remaster of Massive Attack's 1998 album Mezzanine, the kind of album that constantly finds itself on lists of the best albums of all time without losing any of its cool. Massive Attack took the trip-hop sound they had helped define and mixed it with a more rock-y energy to make something intriguing and unique. Comes with a disc of dub remixes by Mad Professor.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Lovely Creatures: The Best of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds 1984-2014

Well look here the first ever career spanning collection of the music of Sir Nick Cave all the way from his debut 'From Her To Eternity' to date. Handpicked by Cave himself along with Mick Harvey and other Bad Seeds, the lads have even raided their archives for rare unseen photos and memorabilia for the book that comes with the limited edition ‘Super Deluxe’ version which also comes with a two hour DVD.  Four formats to choose from depending on your level of obsession with the man and his work.

Ornette Coleman
The Atlantic Years

Ornette Coleman completists need look no further than this luxury box set. Atlantic have remastered the ten records he made for the label between 1959 and 1962 - that means The Shape Of Jazz To Come, Free Jazz, This Is Our Music and more. They’ve packaged them alongside a book of photos and an essay on Coleman by famed jazz critic Ben Ratliff.

Pere Ubu
Drive He Said 1994 - 2002

The Fire label have repressed three of experimental art-punks Pere Ubu’s underappreciated later albums, and included some rare bonus material as well. Drive He Said includes Raygun Suitcase, Pennsylvania and St Arkansas, albums which capture the band’s freeform intensity and their complete refusal to conform to genre. This four LP box-set also comes with a download code.

Pere Ubu
Architecture of Language

One-of-a-kind post-punkers Pere Ubu get the box-set treatment. Architecture of Language brings together four remastered vinyl LPs, New Picnic Time (1979), The Art Of Walking (1980), Song Of The Bailing Man (1982) and a new collection of extras. The perfect music here runs from punk, to shronking free jazz with some funk and glam thrown in too. The set comes with a lovely poster and download codes as well.

Philip Glass
The Complete Sony Recordings

Ah, yes, Philip Glass - one of the most salient composers of music with repetitive structures. He’s going to be 80, you know, and what better way to celebrate than by diving into this mammoth CD box set? Inside you’ll find the Glassworks ‘cassette mix’ digitally available for the first time, various collaborations including his album with the late, great Ravi Shankar, plus all sorts of key contextual material. A comprehensive introduction or prime mode of revisitation, no doubt.

Phillip Werren
Electronic Music

Presumably when Phillip Werren released Electronic Music that phrase hadn't quite become the mostly useless genre name it is now. Between 1967 and 1971 Werren recorded in Poland and Canada on one of the earliest modular Buchla's, creating unsettling and immersive musical experiments. There's also a bit of tape manipulation for good measure. Vital listening for fans of Xenakis, Stockhausen and the rest.

Pixies
Come On Pilgrim... It's Surfer Rosa

Well there's no doubt that these are two of The Most Important Indie Rock Records Of All Time. Both are absolutely exceptional, in particular 'Surfer Rosa' which pretty much turned everything I knew on its head in my teenage years. 30 years after the event we get this luxury box set of both records plus a live show from the era. No new demos or whatever, but tasty and very collectable nonetheless.

Prince
Piano & A Microphone 1983

Prince presented himself to the world with consummate showmanship and an enigmatic persona that made his fans want to know even more about him. Piano & A Microphone gives fans a insight into his inspiration and songwriting process. Taken from a home-recorded cassette in dating from 1983, this album features Prince playing early versions of classics such as Purple Rain and Strange Relationship, along with a cover of Joni Mitchell’s ‘A Case Of You’. Available as an LP and CD package presented in a hardback book, vinyl LP and CD on Warner Bros.

Public Image Limited
The Public Image Is Rotten (Songs From The Heart)

It's pleasing that perhaps John Lydon will be remembered just as much for his PIL project as with punk legends the Sex Pistols. Over recent years people seem to have realised that, yes, PIL were pretty innovative. To coincide with a film about the band, here is a career spanning box set with a singles collection, B-sides, rarities, radio sessions and a ton of live recordings. More Rotten than you'll probably ever need.

Radiophonic Workshop
Burials In Several Earths

Interestingly this is actual new material by the Radiophonic Workshop (no BBC as the corporation does no funding of weird music anymore). The collective have produced a new suite of synth compositions that hark back to their classic work while exploring new areas of sound and combines analogue synth and cutting edge digital technologies.

Richard H. Kirk
#7489 (collected works 1974 - 1989)

Sheffield has housed many electronic music pioneers, of which Richard H. Kirk was one of the greatest. Alongside his work with Cabaret Voltaire he was producing his own solo works long before, during and after. This collection precedes the group, with a massive 8 CDs of solo dance experiments. Includes his first four albums remastered, and an album of completely unreleased tracks.

Rick and Morty
The Rick and Morty Soundtrack

Aww geez. Wubba lubba dub dub. Eek barba durkle. And so on. This Rick And Morty tie-in album was only a matter of time, given the popularity of the show and the general high quality of the soundtrack. Whatever format you buy the Rick And Morty Soundtrack on, you’ll be getting twenty-six tracks, eighteen of which are by Ryan Elder and others that range from the Blonde Redhead bit they use as the ‘Evil Morty’ theme to Belly and Mazzy Star, plus exclusive new tunes by clipping. and Chad VanGaalen.

Sandra Kerr & John Faulkner
The Music From Bagpuss

Hello all 40+ somethings out there. You'll remember big saggy 70s cloth cat Bagpuss from your favourite childhood television show and the beautifully constructed folk soundtrack it snored around? Brings back memories doesn't it? Well the soundtrack actually works as a lovely album even without the nostalgia associated with the cat and now you can get it on a wonderful Christmas present-ready 'shop window' edition vinyl or book back CD with all your favourite slightly hip people talking about the album in an accompanying book. Wake up, and look at this thing that I bring!

Sleaford Mods
Bunch Of Kunst Documentary / Live at SO36

Even if you don’t much care for the music of Sleaford Mods, you have to say that they’ve been a refreshing and valuable voice in the increasingly homogenised world of mainstream rock over the past few years. This two-disc set - the Bunch Of Kunst documentary DVD and a live album recorded at Berlin’s legendary SO36 - provides a neat insight into what makes the Poundland Pet Shop Boys so vital.

Small Faces
Ogdens’ Nut Gone Flake (50th Anniversary Edition)

They’re back. After fifty long years, they’re back. Those tiny men with the Small Faces. Their 1968 LP ‘Ogdens’ Nut Gone Flake doesn’t need an introduction. The Record With The Title That Is Bad sold truckloads on release and topped the charts for over a month. It contains the extremely popular and supremely irritating ‘Lazy Sunday’ and a load of other psych-rock fluff. These 50th anniversary editions have been remastered because that’s what you do nowadays.

Soul Jazz Records Present
90 Degrees of Shade: Image and Identity in the West Indies: Over 100 Years of Photography in the Caribbean

'90 Degrees Of Shade: Image and Identity In The West Indies' encompasses a century of Caribbean history in an extensive collection of photography that attempts to show the region in every little and significant detail, from its political and colonial fractures to its independence. The book was compiled by Paul Gilroy.

Sufjan Stevens
Songs For Christmas

How nice it would be to live in Sufjan world. Each year around the festive season he'd gather round with friends to make a Christmas EP. He'll be there in a massive jumper singing away. Heartwarming. Well this tradition went on for a few years and now you can get all the yuletide fruits on this box set of all the songs. Sufjan's folky and melancholy tones are just perfect for Christmas listening. Let it sleet.

Sun Ra
Singles (The Definitive 45s Collection Vol. 1: 1952-1991)

Definitive collection gets bandied about quite a lot, but this one is undeniably so. Covering the singles from Sun Ra released between 1952 and 1991. All remastered and packaged with rare photos, the original artworks, and session notes track by track. A pretty good way of learning the mysterious and mental ins and outs of the inimitable Sun Ra.

Super Furry Animals
Super Furry Animals At The BBC

Welsh psychedelic pop heroes Super Furry Animals are going to make some fans very happy with the release of this box set. It contains all of their BBC sessions dating from 1996-2001, very much their golden period. They were recorded for Mark Radcliffe, John Peel and The Evening Session. 4LP box set or 2CD set containing three tracks not on vinyl. Both versions limited to 500 copies.

Tame Impala
Currents (Collectors Edition)

Like Tame Impala’s ___ album Currents? Well if you do, here’s your chance for deeper insight into the record, with a Collectors Edition boxset that adds a 12” of remixes (including one by Soulwax), a 7” and a flexidisc of B-sides, a poster and an exclusive zine to a nice red marbled vinyl edition of the original album. That makes four discs and many pages by my count: nice.

The Beatles
The Beatles (White Album)

The Beatles. Now there's a thing.  The White Album (initially known as just the Beatles) was the blueprint of what became known as 'the classic over indulgent double album that would have made a great single LP'. It was released 50 years ago today and still much of it sounds like Guided By Voices 'August By Cake'. This super duper re-issue isn't just a rehash of the original thing with posh packaging  - it contains the Esher demos  - a 27 track 'unplugged' demo that has only been heard by the most in the know the Beatles fans.

The Beta Band
The Three EPs (20th Anniversary Remaster) [Deluxe Edition]

Noted for *that* moment in High Fidelity when the guy in the store says "let's sell some records" and puts a Beta Band track on and people start wandering up to the counter to find out what it is. It's a reminder that the early the Beta Band was a good thing - their reputation is based on these three early EPs. The fact that they subsequently disappeared down a rabbit warren of their own making is, in time, starting to be forgotten.

The Chills / Martin Phillipps
The Curse Of The Chills / Martin Phillipps Live At The Moth Club

This is a must-buy for any self respecting fan of New Zealand legends the Chills, a major new documentary on the band and in particular their leader Martin Phillipps. The film contains never been seen footage as well as interviews with Phillipps and close family. The DVD is coupled with CD of Phillips live at the Moth Club in London on his 2015 comeback tour. There also appears to be a book but we're not sure what is in that.

The Doors
The Singles

The Doors were a kind of gloomy '70s version of INXS with a prowling tiger of a singer and some other blokes in tow. They are currently celebrating their 50th anniversary and this set compiles all their US singles and their B sides - even the ones they ill advisedly did after the death of Jim Morrison. Your only vinyl option is a 7" box set so good luck with that.

The Doors
Waiting For The Sun

Waiting For The Sun is album numero three from classic waistoid crew The Doors, now seeing reissue after it originally hit the shelves many moons ago, way back in 1968 when we weren't even sex cells in our mummy's and daddies psychedelic paisley underpants. Morrison and the gang get their groove on, with such favourites as ‘Hello, I Love You’ and Vietnam war track ‘The Unknown Soldier’.

The Fall
58 Golden Greats

There aren’t many bands who could release a career-spanning retrospective and call it 58 Golden Greats without stretching the truth as to the number of songs or the golden greatness of the music. The prolific nature of The Fall means that they can, however. This trans-label overview was compiled by Daryl Easlea, who knows a thing or two about the Manchester post-punk and beyond legends. The material is picked from albums running right up to their final album, New Facts Emerge. 3CD box set on Cherry Red.

The Flaming Lips
Seeing The Unseeable: The Complete Studio Recordings Of The Flaming Lips 1986-1990

Before signing a major label deal with Warner Bros, The Flaming Lips made four albums with Restless Records. Now you can buy all four: Hear It Is, Oh My Gawd, Telepathic Surgery and In A Priest Driven Ambulance (which some may argue is still their best album) plus a disc of rarities and The Mushroom Tapes (previously released as part of the The Day They Shot A Hole In The Jesus Egg comp) together as Seeing The Unseeable: The Complete Studio Recordings of The Flaming Lips. It documents the band’s first outing as a three piece to the point where the band included Jonathan Donahue of Mercury Rev fame. 6 CD Box Set on Warner Bros.

The Go Betweens
Right Here

An Australian writer once described the Go Betweens as not only a great band but the sort of band with characters and personalities you could gossip about as if they were the cast of Neighbours. Their history is Fleetwood Mac-ish in it's relationship complexity. But it's also sad, inspiring and sometimes downright hilarious. They had the songs to be the biggest band in the 80s but it never really happened for them. This brilliant film documents the band from it's beginnings in Brisbane through it's various line ups and to it's ultimate sad dissolution. Essential viewing.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Electric Ladyland - 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition

Jimi Hendrix and his Experience released their last studio album Electric Ladyland an entire half of a century ago. Any of the 321 pressings of this album archived on Discogs that you may have are now obsolete because here’s the ultimate, the one to reign supreme... at least till the 51st Anniversary. Freshly remastered and buffed with early versions and other unheard studio outtakes, a bluray documentary, a 48-page colour booklet with lyrics, poetry and essays, and, ohhh yes, the 5.1 surround version of the album we all need. It also sports the cover art that Jimi actually originally wanted, so that’s a plus as well.

The Kinks
The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society

Now regarded as their finest moment, The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society is now seen as the highlight of the band's long career and certainly the high water moment of the pastoral English phase of their development. Now you can get the album in an enormous box set with 2 LPs, 5 CDs, 3 7"s a book and all kinds of memorabilia. For those with smaller pockets the 2 x CD looks quite tasty with 49 tracks altogether or you can get the standard original LP as it was meant to be heard.

The Library Music Film
The Library Music Film

A film about the discovery of Library Music - that off the shelf option for makers of film, TV , radio and whatever else needed soundtracking cheaply without the expense of using a composer. The strange thing is, this wealth of material has become increasingly popular as crate diggers find the most obscure unheard pieces to use as samples and general inspiration for new music. In the film Shawn Lee travels across the world looking for obscurities and stories about this music industry parallel universe.

The Police
Every Move You Make: The Studio Recordings

The Police released their debut album Outlandos d’Amour 40 years ago (that’s the one with the song about Sue Lawley on). To celebrate this, we have Every Move You Make, A 6LP box set featuring all five albums made by the band between 1978 and 1983 with a bonus album of non-LP tracks. Undoubtedly an essential purchase for any fan of The Police. Half-speed mastered at Abbey Road, 6 x 180g LP box set on Polydor.

The Residents

The Rolling Stones
Their Satanic Majesties Request - 50th Anniversary Edition

Following the hullabaloo about the 50th Anniversary edition of the Beatles 'Sgt Pepper's...' we now get a bespoke four disc re-vamp of their great rivals the Rolling Stones similarly ambitious Their Satanic Majesties Request. This was the album in which they experimented with psychedelia, sound effects and unconventional song structures. Bonkers and groundbreaking.

The Rolling Stones
Beggars Banquet (50th Anniversary Edition)

Beggars Banquet was the first in a run of four classic albums made by The Rolling Stones between 1968 and 1972 where they took their blues roots and fused them with hard rock, country and gospel to create a, well, Stonesy sound that has been copied, but never bettered, by so many bands since. Under the guidance of producer Jimmy Miller they transformed basic blues structures into phenomenal musical moments such as Sympathy For The Devil. This 50th anniversary reissue LP features and extra 12” disc with a mono mix of Sympathy For The Devil and an etched B-side along with a Mick Jagger interview on a flexi-disc. Also available on standard CD.

The Rutles
The Rutles

The Rutles started life as a Beatles pastiche band. They were formed by Neil Innes of the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and Eric Idle of Monty Python fame. This self-titled LP was their first album, released in 1978, and was also the soundtrack to their film All You Need Is Cash. There are some clever and funny pastiches on here, along with some genuinely good songs such as Between Us, which was covered by Teenage Fanclub. Newly remastered version of the original LP, plus bonus "Japanese" EP 7". Includes 16-page booklet + lithograph print

This Heat
Out Of Cold Storage

A veritable treasure trove of This Heat wares from ReR Megacorp here. Out Of Cold Storage collects all five of the records made by the pioneering post-punk during their main run. It also contains a bonus set of live recordings and a booklet of reflections, photography, interviews and other This Heat-related ephemera. If your mates are forever telling you that you simply must get into this band then Out Of Cold Storage is the way to shut them up for good.

Nuggets: The Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968 (40th Anniversary Edition)

Lenny Kaye’s comp of 60s psych and garage singles originally appeared in 1972, and if anything has grown in importance as an overview of a well-defined golden era, when a sense of possibility abounded, and before everything got slick and serious. The 13th Floor Elevators, The Electric Prunes and The Seeds may be familiar names to many, and Count Five’s Psychotic Reaction has become a standard. The Nazz began Todd Rundgren’s career, and The Amboy Dukes foisted Ted Nugent on the world. But the one-offs and also-rans like The Knickerbockers and Mouse are as much fun. Styles range from proto-punk to baroque pop to Beatles pastiche, but it’s all bursting with joyous youthful vigour. Double LP reissue, with 27 tracks.

Confessin' The Blues - Compiled by The Rolling Stones

There's a school of thought that all the best music was made between 50 and 100 years ago and humankind’s sonic capabilities have been in steady decline ever since. As if to prove this theory the Rolling Stones (no less) have compiled this exhaustive collection of all their favourite blues people and includes tracks by pioneers such as Howlin’ Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry and of course Robert Johnson.

Diggin In The Carts : A Collection Of Pioneering Japanese Video Game Music

A huge collection of 8-bit and 16-bit bleeps and bloops collated by Diggin In The Carts co-director Nick Dwyer, and Hyperdub’s Kode 9. Comprised of thirty four tracks taken from legendary titles released on classic Japanese video game systems - from Nintendo’s Famicom to Sega’s Mega Drive, as well as from earlier platforms less familiar in the West, like the MSX. Obviously ideal for video game enthusiasts, though anyone even vaguely interested in the history of electronic music will no doubt be enthralled by the diversity of melody and tone forced out of such limited chips. For Discos Only: Indie Dance Music From Fantasy & Vanguard Records (1976-1981)

Various - 'For Discos Only: Indie Dance Music From Fantasy & Vanguard Records (1976-1981)' is a huge 5LP or 3CD box set that contains a bunch of artists who can stake their claim in making music that ultimately led to techno, house and in some cases, hip-hop. Sylvester, Fat Larry’s Band, Ike and Tina Turner, Free Expression and Home Grown Funk all make appearances. I’m sure the label won’t find out if you play the records in your front room, despite what it says on the cover.

In Death's Dream Kingdom

The Houndstooth label tasked the 26 acts on this extensive 4x LP box set with the following brief: take T. S. Eliot's 1925 poem 'The Hollow Men' with its doom and apocalyptic atmospheres as inspiration for a new track each. The contributions include music from Pan Daijing, Lanark Artefax, Roly Porter, Abul Mogard and Gazelle Twin with particular reference to the phrase in the poem: "In Death's Dream Kingdom". Perhaps appropriately dark in theme for today's challenging times, the collection is nevertheless diverse yet coherent in styles, aesthetics and ambiences. Topical electronics: apply liberally.
