Car Seat Headrest
Twin Fantasy (Mirror To Mirror)

Will Toledo likes to confuse doesn't he? Here's the 2011 version of 'Twin Fantasy'; the first and original edition to the one he re-recorded in 2018 following the success of 'Teens of Denial'. This one's the more raw, lo-fi and immediate sounding of the two. Both are worth listening to if you're big into Car Seat Headrest however.

Courtney Barnett
City Looks Pretty / Sunday Roast

City Looks Pretty/Sunday Roast by Courtney Barnett is a special release for Record Store Day. The limited edition 12” features two tracks from her second album Tell Me How You Really Feel. The record perfectly displays the two sides of Courtney Barnett - upbeat and quirky vs reflective. On Marathon Artists.

Daniel Rossen
Deerslayer

Key Grizzly Bear member and master of many instruments Daniel Rossen treats us to a rare solo outing with Deerslayer. Carefully balanced arrangements dress the ever-gorgeous vocal, before a surprisingly rocky guitar takes the track somewhere bigger. On the B-side lies a cover of a Golden Suits song. Warp 12”.

Emma Tricca
St. Peter

Emma Tricca’s first LP since 2014’s Relic is another record of delicate, dreamy folk-rock. Devendra Banhart and Jane Weaver spring to mind on tracks like the gorgeous, feathery ‘Julian’s Wings’. St. Peter also features a pretty star-studded credit reel - members of Sonic Youth, The Dream Syndicate and Paper Dollhouse all make appearances.

Josephine Foster
A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing

Classic renditions of German poems that have been previously released and (as some of you may have noticed) have sold out on all platforms....until now! This is a remaster of A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing sung by Josephine Foster with brand spanking new artwork. But act fast because this is limited to 1000 copies and will more than likely sell like popcorn in a cinema. Available on vinyl LP and released on Fire.  Note: The video used on this page is a sample of one of the same songs (An Die Musik) just with a different album art.

Michael Raven & Joan Mills
Death And The Lady

Death And The Lady by Michael Raven and Joan Mills is a much sought after and rare folk album. It has never, until now, been reissued on vinyl, and upon its original release in 1974, only 250 were made. For Record Store Day, another 500 are being pressed. Fans on Fairport Convention will no doubt love this as it possesses guitar virtuosity and a great female voice.

Mogwai
Ten Rapid (Collected Recordings 1996-1997)

If you queued for hours only to miss out on the Record Store Day version of this then now is the time to rejoice. Rock Action have re-pressed Mogwai's early singles collection Ten Rapid. The album shows the nascent band exploring a more spindly but equally creative and wonderfully atmospheric version of their later heavyweight quiet/loud sound and is essential listening if you want to find out where it all began.

Nick Hakim / Onyx Collective
Vincent Tyler / The Pawn Broker / Rat Race

Nick Hakim - one of those Mac Demarco/Tyler, The Creator/Steve Lacy types - unites with up-and-coming NYC post-jazzers Onyx Collective for a short, sharp EP. Only the gritty neo-soul slap of ‘Vincent Tyler’ is anything close to what you might have expected going into this record. ‘The Pawn Broker’ and ‘Rat Race’ are hard and heavy - the latter is grungy and the former legitimately sounds like Thou. This EP is a very pleasant surprise.

Public Service Broadcasting
People Will Always Need Coal

One of the more popular experimental rock/pop groups of the last decade, Public Service Broadcasting have found a rich seam of creativity in poignant, plummy-voiced samples from public information films that are then backed by krautrock and funk-flavoured jams. The third track, 'People Will Always Need Coal', from their third album, 'Every Valley', has been given a single release, coupled with a few remixes from Flamingods, Vessels, Plaid, Nabihah Iqbal, and Dark Sky.

Tangerine Dream
Miracle Mile (Original Soundtrack)

Steve De Jarnatt's Miracle Mile is a niftily contained apocalypse movie in which our societal collapse takes place through one day/night cycle. The score was done by the usually chill Tangerine Dream, who ramped tension up through forty minutes of feverish synth phenomena. It's both a testament to the singular musical territory they were carving in the '80s and an emotive action movie booster.

The National
Boxer: Live In Brussels

Well, it's Boxer by the National, but live. In spite of album artwork that clearly indicates the band performing their music out at a respectable function hall, the original record was a studio undertaking. True. Now coloured in, that artwork makes true on its former lie because it's Boxer by the National, but live. In Brussels. Two weeks ago this was a Record Store Day release.

The Television Personalities
Closer To God

Closer to God was a 1992 era album by Dan Treacy and his ever changing Television Personalities. As with a lot of his work it is a personal affair reflecting his troubles with mental illness most notable on tracks like My Very First Nervous Breakdown. Fire records have always been in and around the TVPs world and here re-issue this lesser spotted album on black and white marbled vinyl.

The Vaselines
Dum-Dum

Dum Dum was the first album by legendary Scottish indie pop  band, The Vaselines. They were led by Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee. It was originally released in 1989.  It was albums such as this that piqued the interest of Kurt Cobain who went on to cover several of their later songs with Nirvana.

Thomas Andrew Doyle
Incineration Ceremony

Thomas Andrew Doyle is best known as the gigantic frontman from Sub Pop grunge pioneers, Tad. He did, however, study classical and jazz music at university, so what may seem like a surprising turn, is actually him going back to his roots. Incineration Ceremony is modern classical music from the deepest recesses of his mind. RIYL John Carpenter.

Tiny Ruins
Some Were Meant For Sea

Tiny Ruins is the alias used by New Zealander Hollie Fulbrook who released her debut album Some Were Meant For Sea on the tiny Spunk label in 2011. Luckily Bella Union stepped in to give it a vinyl re-issue and bring her warm textured nature-inspired songwriting a bigger audience. More stripped-back than her later work, this slow burning record should not be underestimated.
