Yorkston / Thorne / Khan
Neuk Wight Delhi All-Stars

James Yorkston, Jon Thorne and Suhail Yusuf Khan are a near-unique proposition, combining UK folk with jazz-style double bass and Indian classical sarangi. Somehow, these three remarkable talents manage to make the hybrid music they play sound like an obvious fit, like the traditional music of an imagined place. Neuk Wight Delhi All-Stars is released by Domino.

Yorkston / Thorne / Khan
Everything Sacred

In which James Yorkston, John Thorne (of Lamb) and singer / sarangi-player Suhail Yusuf Khan get together to record a remarkable set of material, encompassing original tunes, Ivor Cutler covers and improvisations. Everything Sacred is available in special independent-stores-only edition, with an exclusive bonus 7”.

YPY
2020

YPY is the production project of Osaka artist Koshiro Hino, working with what I’m going to call electronic music, although that term doesn’t explain much of what is going on here. 2020 is full of drum machine rhythms and synth fragments, but the rhythms don’t necessarily move like you’d expect them to and the tracks are prone to collapsing into overwhelming density. Texture is the name of the game! Edition of 300 LPs on Where To Now?

Yung
Alter EP

Debut international EP from Yung, a Danish four-piece melodic punk band. One for fans of the sensational Ty Segall, Jay Retard and definitely the Replacements. Six tracks on limited edition 12” vinyl. Yung are young, fresh and urgent, too fast to dance to and to slow to feel down to. Nobody cares is a pretty stand out track. Big things from Tough Love.

Zarate_Fix & DJ Sotofett
Planetary Involvement

Newcomer Zarate_Fix once again teams up with DJ Sotofett for some breezily stomping house action on Thug. Unlike their previous release, this one sees more collaboration between the two, coaxing cosmic, expansive beatscapes out of each others' heads to exhilarating effect. Look out for some deep choirs on the title track and some intense synth walls on 'Solar Mixx'.

Zed (aka Bernard Szajner)
Visions Of Dune

Another rare synth classic for you all lovingly reissued by very careful people. This time its from a concept album based around Frank Herbert's 'Duner' by French electronic pioneer Bernard Szajner. The key words are sci-fi drones and otherworldly melodies drifting about creating an immersive listen. Rashad Becker remastered it in Berlin and there are two bonus tracks which feature on the CD or on the download code with the album.

Zeitkratzer
Reinhold Friedl: KORE

Zeitkratzer are not your usual classically trained orchestral collective. They’ve collaborated with Merzbow and Keiji Haino and they covered Lou Reed’s Metal Machine Music in its entirety. On Reinhold Friedl: KORE from Karlrecords they bring their experimental skills to reinterpret classical and electronic composer Reinhold Freidl, making an incredible electroacoustic racket in process.

Zen Mantra
Zen Mantra

Zen Mantra, aka Sam Perry, produces his own songs from his bedroom studio, managing to achieve the perfect level of dreaminess that allows simple indie-pop songs to elevate the listener to some higher plane. Operating out of New Zealand, young Sam has now joined the roster of Flying Nun, ensuring dream-pop fame. LP release.

Zomby x Burial
Sweetz

2 of electronic bass music’s most illustrious anonymous producers (although they aren’t really anonymous anymore) put their heads together at last for this collaboration. Zomby and Burial both know how to make the darkness ripple, and Sweets is bound to entrance plenty of heads. Limited edition of 5000 on single-sided white label 10”: they’ll probably still sell out quick though.

Zwischenfall
Heute

Vintage Belgian electro action in the style that the Dark Entries label loves so dearly. Zwischenfall recorded and released the Heute EP in 1983, although two tracks heard here have never been pressed to vinyl before. Reissued by Dark Entries in a replica of the original sleeve along with a 6-page booklet of tasty lyrics and photos.

ÆOLUS
A Retrospective

Aloha Got Soul focus of a niche of niches, exploring and uncovering the musical underground of Hawaii. A Retrospective is a collection of works by new age ambient composer ÆOLUS recorded 1982 to 2006. Washing and glittering synthesizers and playful flutes lull you into one of the nicest and relaxing records you’ll probably ever hear.

外神田Deepspace
Welcome To Nakanotroit

Japanese producer 外神田Deepspace (外神田 translates to Kotokuda, a district of Tokyo) operates a double output, simultaneously working as Aquarium. 外神田Deepspace is his “boy side” focusing on metallic and mechanical sounds, although Welcome To Nakanotroit is as playful as it’s name suggest, with Detroit techno influences, squelches ethereal paddy chords and mutating electronic bleeps.
