Aaron Dilloway
Switches

The lurching, twisted sound of Aaron Dilloway has been on the radar of everyone into noise since forever, and this release preserves his esteemed reputation once more. The signature, collaged rhythms are almost comic in their nauseating swing, the distortion caustic and musicality extremely hard to stomach. Perfect.

ADULT.
Live at Third Man Records

ADULT. fans may rejoice as their live presence is has been captured and released on 12". The drum machine synth pop is just as crisp as ever, though the live setting is also very much there with audience interaction intact. The modern, underground equivalent of Siouxsie and the Banshees 'Live at the Royal Albert Hall'? Sure, why not?

Baths
Romaplasm

It’s been a few years, but Baths (aka Will Weisenfeld) appears to have found the time among all the anime and computer games for another Anticon album. Led by affable, confessional songwriting, Romaplasm swings to the steps of camp, bubbly poptronica. It comes off as more lyrical, a touch lighter and more spacious than Will’s sidechain-core, L.A.-beat early material.

Björk
Utopia

Utopia is Bjork’s ninth album, still with One Little Indian, still pushing boundaries artistically and sonically. The album’s artwork reflects the album’s themes and sound, apparently, but you have to be a better art critic than me to figure that out. Musically, Bjork worked with Venezuelan DJ Arca and a thirteen-piece flute orchestra. Lyrically, she is in an optimistic mood, pushing for some kind of Utopia as a necessity to escape the world we currently live in.

Coil
Astral Disaster Sessions Un/finished Musics

Coil's 1999 opus Astral Disaster is an often-overlooked highlight of their extensive discography, centring on sonically vast, emotionally deep Kosmische epics and punctuated with pithier statements. This release presents a brace of unheard tracks and mixes from the album sessions, including the lengthy Cosmic Disaster and a promo CD mix of I Don't Want To Be The One.

Dog Faced Hermans
Humans Fly

The debut album statement of Dog Faced Hermans, made available again for the first time since the initial 1988 release! Humans Fly still sizzles with eclectic energy, throwing post-punk, no-wave and free-jazz shapes around with wild abandon. Really quite a special and original one, all remastered and all for your pleasure. LP reissue from Sorcerer.

Drahla
Third Article

One sided 12" on Blank Ad, so...every track is an A side. Produced by MJ of Hookworms fame at the newly resurrected Suburban Home in Leeds, this is proper ace post-punk from a very promising outfit. Big time echoes of Sonic Youth with the noisy/melodic guitar work and Kim Gordon-esque spoken word vocals, but totally with enough interesting lyrical and musical content to keep things unique and distinctly Drahla. Dig it!

Ekoplekz
Cassettera

This tape will be an essential acquisition for any who enjoyed the recent Ekoplekz album Bioprodukt, as Cassettera’s tracks were all recorded during the same sessions. Dark, moody greyscale beatwork is the name of the game, with our man Ekoplekz leaning further into the dronier and noisier ends of his territory than on the main release. Lovely un-lovely stuff. Tape release from Planet Mu.

Euros Childs
House Arrest

House Arrest is the 13th solo album by former Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci mainman Euros Childs. It was recorded in Elton John producer Gus Dudgeon’s Cardiff studio by Stephen Black, better known to us as Sweet Baboo. Euros Childs is never short of melody or pleasingly weird lyrical themes and House Arrest proves that his cup still overfloweth with tunes-a-plenty.

Field Music
Open Here

Sunderland's Field Music have escaped from the gloom of the world (and the shocking form of their local football team) by nestling into a studio in a light industrial estate to make their 6th album. Full to the brim with flute, flugelhorn and other non-rock instruments, the album continues their escapist vision of a time when Steely Dan ruled the land.

Flying Saucer Attack
In Search Of Spaces

Unlike their comparatively peaceful recordings, the live Flying Saucer Attack were a racket of trebly guitars and visceral improvised semi-compositions ensuring that live attempts were often a mess/inspired often at the same time. This live document is a rare chance to hear the beast in action and for this special 2LP vinyl edition comes with a bonus Jim O'Rourke re-work of some of the material.

FM3
Buddha Machine 1 - 2017 Edition Loop Box

Check it out, a new edition of the Buddha Machines! This edition is actually a reissue of the original 2005 model, the one that made a huge splash among sound fans and not-usually-sound-fans alike. All the original loops are here, ready to seep into the background of your sonic environment. From FM3.

Hans Zimmer & Ben Wallfisch
Blade Runner 2049

If making a sequel to the film Blade Runner wasn’t enough of a challenge already, how about composing the sequel to its Vangelis soundtrack? Hans Zimmer and Ben Wallfisch have answered that question with big booming bass throbs and snatches of Vangelis-esque synth electronics. It sounds great on the big screen, and it’ll probably sound great played loud on your stereo too. Blade Runner 2049’s soundtrack is released by Sony Music Classical.

Hookworms
Microshift

Leeds stalwarts Hookworms’ third studio album, available on CD and vinyl via Domino. After the banks of the River Aire broke in late 2015, the band’s studio was devastated. The repairs that took place over the course of the next year were only made possible by altruistic voluntary work and online donations. That community effort displayed in the face of tragedy is no doubt the source of a pertinent blend of euphoria and tension present on the record. A more synth heavy affair than previous efforts, MJ’s modular features much more prominently, and collaboration with local synth nut Richard Formby guarantee an interesting listen!!

Illa J
Yancey Boys

Yancey Boys is an album wherein J Dilla’s brother Illa J flows over the top of some of the many Dilla beats left behind by the great man. Though this 2008 album was a posthumous collaboration, the fraternal connection is strong with this one, and it really feels like it could have been made face to face. Reissued on CD and vinyl by Delicious Vinyl.

Ingleton Falls
Champagne In Mozambique

Very rare business here: Champagne In Mozambique was first released in 1991, distributed directly in a limited edition of just one hundred cassettes. But the weird-vibed dubby world-ambient of Ingleton Falls’ Champagne In Mozambique is firmly deserving of more attention, so this cassette reissue on Isle Of Jura is to be very much welcomed.

Jason Molina
The Black Sabbath Covers

Black Sabbath’s influence runs far and deep, emerging in some unexpected places… Such as in the recorded catalogue of Magnolia Electric Co. singer-songwriter Jason Molina. These intriguing covers of ‘Solitude’ and ‘Snowblind’ were recorded at home in the 90’s, and have only just surfaced. The B-side of this 7” contains a Will Schaff etching.

Jessica Curry
Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture (Original Soundtrack)

Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture is a PS4 game of advanced non-linear design. Given that the game’s story has the heavy and emotionally resonant setting of post-apocalyptic world, it is appropriate that Jessica Curry’s original soundtrack is a somberly beautiful set pieces for orchestra, choir and soprano. Double transparent vinyl LP.

Jim James
Tribute To

When George Harrison died in 2001, Jim James of My Morning Jacket reacted by playing a bunch of Harrison’s songs on an acoustic guitar into an 8 track recorder. The results are sparse and emotional and made into an album called Tribute To which was originally released in 2009. Now it is being reissued by ATO on LP and CD. The reissue will include the track, If Not For You, which didn’t make it onto the original release.

Joan As Police Woman
Damned Devotion

Damned Devotion is the 5th album proper album by Joan As Policewoman. It sees the Connecticut-born singer/songwriter returning to the emotionally charged music of her earlier releases, such as 2006’s Real Life. Damned Devotion has lyrics tinged with regret about her previous mistakes in love and life.

Johnny Cash
Unearthed

Unearthed by Johnny Cash finally gets a vinyl release - a spectacular vinyl release at that. 9 LPs presented in a cloth-bound book along with another cloth-bound book containing all-encompassing liner notes by music journalist Sylvie Symons. The remaining music left over from Johnny Cash’s sessions with Rick Rubin was originally released in 2003. The set is a must for any fan, containing duets with Carl Perkins, Tom Petty, Nick Cave, Joe Strummer, Glen Campbell and Fiona Apple.

Kaleidoscope
Tangerine Dream (50th Anniversary Remastered Edition)

Here is a piece of classic psychedelia re-issued for the first time in five decades. The record has been one of the most collected over the years and here has been painstakingly re-mastered by none other than Sonic Boom (Spacemen 3 etc) for 2018 release.  Though this is simply a remaster of the original album, it contains two bonus tracks which give a taster of a future album of outtakes and rarities.

Khruangbin
Con Todo El Mundo

Khruangbin are a band inspired by non-Western music of many stripes, taking what they like from all sorts of cultures. Second album Con Todo El Mundo hones in on Iran and the Mediterranean in particular, whipping up some soulful funky storms as they do so. Con Todo El Mundo is released by Night Time Stories.

Lanterns On The Lake
Live With Royal Northern Sinfonia

Documentation of Newcastle’s Lanterns On The Lake performing a remarkable live show with the forty-piece Royal Northern Sinfonia orchestra. Ten of the band’s tracks have been expanded and spun out to incorporate the full scope of the orchestra’s power, offering we listeners grander versions of the material. Double LP release from Bella Union.

MALK
Death From A Love

MALK was one of the people behind that Mahatma X album we loved so much earlier in the year. Whereas Mahatma X celebrated the golden age of cut and splice hip-hop MALK delves deeper into the sort of grey areas of cyberpunk and vaporwave that Oneohtrix Point Never also mines. Though there's melody in abundance, this is deep and dark, a terrifying sonic ride through Trump's America.

Mark Van Hoen
Electronic Music (1982 - 1987)

Deluxe collection of Mark Van Hoen tunes, Electronic Music: 1982-1987 does what it says on the tin and gives you Van Hoen’s work from that period, an expansive range of early instrumental pieces influenced by his growing up in the Midlands. Double LP on snazzy blue vinyl, featuring original 35mm pictures of his recording equipment and processes so you can see how the magic happened.

Neil Young + Promise Of The Real
The Visitor

For many years now, Neil’s M.O. has been to rush into the studio and unburden himself of whatever his latest preoccupation might be. Unsurprisingly, this time it involves the current occupant of the White House. Young’s always had a habit of proclaiming his US patriotism, but here at least, the title undercuts the irony of his status as a Canuck blow-in. Judging by the preview tracks, his intent is to combat the crassness and divisiveness in American politics with rousing affirmations of positivity and defiance. The dense clutter of Already Great and the orchestral bombast of Children of Destiny don’t give much indication as to what the album as whole will be like, but it’s reasonable to expect a couple of gems in there. and that Promise of the Real will lend the songs their mixture of comparatively youthful energy and rootsy swagger.

Nightmares On Wax
Shape The Future

Nightmares On Wax now make a welcome return with Shape The Future, the first full-length we’ve seen from the project since 2013. All your favourite Waxy sound-tropes are in place, plus guest spots from vocalists including Sadie Walker, LSK and Andrew Ashong. Shape The Future is, of course, released on Warp.

Nocturnal Emissions
Nocturnal Emissions

The Nigel Ayers-led industrial pioneers have much in common with their better-known peers Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire, and seemed to arrive at similar innovations in recorded sound and performance almost simultaneously and independently. Unlike both, Nocturnal Emissions have survived as an ongoing and resolutely underground concern through the decades. This 22-track comp of their early work takes us through primitive electronics, rudimentary sampling, mangled tapes, textual invective, and lashings of Cold War unease and associated griminess.

Penguin Cafe Orchestra
Union Cafe

PCO's final studio album - Union Cafe, was only available on cassette and CD upon its initial release in 1993. GREAT NEWS: Erased Tapes are dutifully reissuing it on vinyl, coinciding with the twentieth anniversary of founder Simon Jeffes' death. Outstandingly beautiful music sure to cause instant happiness and awe. Very much looking forward to absolutely rinsing this one.

Pye Corner Audio
Where Things Are Hollow

Here's another four tracker from the self styled 'Head Technician' Martin Jenkins. Here he diverts his dystopian vision towards emotive techno with soaring pads and slow pulsating beats. Reminiscent of works by John Carpenter and Delia Derbyshire, this is bound to be another one that flies straight off our shelves.

Sufjan Stevens
The Greatest Gift

Sufjan Stevens made a gorgeous and devastating work with Carrie & Lowell, meditating on his relationship with his mother over a collection of tracks that sounded additive to Elliott Smith's folk style. After releasing a live companion piece, he now also offers The Greatest Gift, with outtakes (read: leftover epics), remixes from friends and iPhone demos. An essential for all who adore this man.

Sufjan Stevens
Blue Bucket of Gold / Hotline Bling (feat. Gallant)

Sufjan Stevens recently released the live concert film of Carrie & Lowell Live, and this release includes a digital download for the entire audio of that set. But what's on the actual wax? Well that would be ‘Blue Bucket Of Gold’ on one side and a slightly surprising cover of Drake’s hit banger ‘Hotline Bling’ on the other. Translucent blue vinyl too! On Asthmatic Kitty.

Tame Impala
Currents (Collectors Edition)

Like Tame Impala’s ___ album Currents? Well if you do, here’s your chance for deeper insight into the record, with a Collectors Edition boxset that adds a 12” of remixes (including one by Soulwax), a 7” and a flexidisc of B-sides, a poster and an exclusive zine to a nice red marbled vinyl edition of the original album. That makes four discs and many pages by my count: nice.

The Beatles
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - Anniversary Edition

A big old grand reissue of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, put together especially for the fifty year anniversary of the seminal Beatles record. Various editions of this psychedelic classic are available, with treats like early takes, stereo mixes and unreleased making-of documentary scattered around the editions. Choose between CD, 2CD, 2LP and six-disc super box-set versions!

The Bug
Bad / Get Out The Way

New material from The Bug! This double A-side features Kevin Martin working with two of his most notorious MC collaborators: regular voice Flowdan on Bad and Killa P on Get Out The Way, appearing on a Bug tune for the first time since Skeng. Heavyweight grimey business with really potent rhythmic weight. Plus ‘Riddim’ versions of each track. 12” single.

The Fratellis
In Your Own Sweet Time

After the release of Costello Music in 2006 and the success of that song that everyone sings….er….*consults Google*….Chelsea Dagger, I thought Scottish lad rock band The Fratellis had disappeared. It turns out I had just stopped paying attention. They have now released four successful albums, with a fifth, In Your Own Sweet Time, here for your delectation. Expect more shouty, stomping anthems to soundtrack your night out.

The Staves & yMusic
The Way Is Read

The Way Is Read is a collaboration between the vocal talents of The Staves and yMusic, a musical ensemble outta NYC. The two acts initially worked together at Justin Vernon’s Eaux Clares festival - a festival that is known for artists performing together. This, however, is the first time that a new recording has come out of a collaboration. The result is a beguiling mix of folk and classical music. 140g LP on Nonesuch.

Theo Parrish
The Baby Steps EP

Typically high-quality vintage Theo Parrish material from 1996, now re-pressed for your pleasure by Sound Signature. Three tracks here, all of them listed as A-sides, and who could argue? Each of the featured cuts here swing deep with groovy melodic deep house loveliness. Go for it. 12” reissue.

Turtle
Human

Turtle aka Jon Cooper has drawn comparisons to Jon Hopkins, SOHN and Thom Yorke after releasing two EPs of his expansive and dynamic electronica in 2014 and 2015. A host of admirers in the shape of various 6music and Radio 1 DJs means the Glasgow-based musician is now able to stick his head up from the parapet and present his album, Human, to the world. Mint green vinyl on Beatnik Creative.

U2
Songs Of Experience

Latest creation from the inevasible U2. On Island Records. Available on double LP cyan blue vinyl. Or there’s a limited edition deluxe box-set version including CD, blue double LP, a themed ‘newspaper’ and a handful of extra tracks if the regular 13 wasn’t enough for you. There you go.

Various
Cold Waves of Color Volume 5

More premium cold wave material from the 1980’s heyday of the genre, with rare material by lesser-known artists including Echophase, Lives of Angels and Berserk In A Hayfield. As well as all these audio treats from the Color Tapes archive, you’ll also get a facsimile reprint of the fourth issue of the label’s fanzine, originally printed in 1985!

Various
Experimental Batch 26

What a winning scheme for an album: a varied bunch of musicians all gathered up together and given a week in a single space to make something. The line-up was Pictish Trail, James Yorkston, King Creosote, Lomond Campbell, Suhail Yusef Khan and the band Slow Club, adding up to a very eclectic supergroup indeed. Experimental Batch 26 contains the intriguing results. LP on Dewar House.

Various
Spheres

Music publisher turned label Research call upon a strong cast of darkside practitioners to throw down six slabs of gutter-dwelling sonics for their first release. If you’re familiar with the likes of These Hidden Hands, Mondkopf and Oake then you know what to expect – industrial inspired textures with a modern heft that will tickle the black-clad techno crowd just the way they like it.

Various
Deutsche Elektronische Musik 3: Experimental German Rock And Electronic Music 1971-81

The third in Soul Jazz Records’ series of compilations exploring multifarious delights in the fertile world of 70s and early 80s German experimental rock, pop and electronic music. Several familiar names here - Popul Vuh, Cluster, Roedelius, Neu!, La Düsseldorf, Harmonia, and Agitation Free. However this volume delves even further than before into the outer reaches of Krautrock and Kosmische related activity with tracks from A.r. & Machines, Michael Bundt,  Achim Reichel, Pyrolator and many more. Triple LP or double CD. Klasse!

Wiley
Godfather II

The twelfth studio LP from hip-hop and grime mainstay, Wiley. Godfather II is the follow-up to 2016’s Godfather. An expansive 20-track affair from one of the scene’s most well-established figures, including features from the likes of JME. Released on CTA and available on double LP vinyl.
