Ashford & Simpson
Love Will Fix It: The Best of Ashford & Simpson

Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson were one of Motown’s successful in-house songwriting partnerships, penning such classics as Ain’t No Mountain High Enough and You’re All I Need To Get By. They also had a hatful of hits in their own name on the American R&B chart. Love WIll Fix It: The Best of Ashford and Simpson collects the couples finest moments from their time with Warner Bros. Records, 1973-1981.

Wait Any Longer (Live EP)

Belgian band Balthazar brought their sound to the people of Europe last year, touring their award-winning Thin Walls album. Wait Any Longer collects 4 songs from various live dates where the group let their compositions stretch out a little. 10” vinyl EP released in a limited edition for Record Store Day, out on Play It Again Sam.

The Finishing Line

Bis like their Record Store Day releases and this is the 'solo' project of one of their number 'sci-fi' Steve and his Batteries project. Previously described as Devo meets Queen of the Stone Age, it's not hard to imagine what he is doing here. Expect bouncy new wave pop fun with a metallic edge. Fans of Bis, in fact, could enjoy.

Black Heart Procession / Solbakken
In The Fishtank

These In The Fishtank collaborative LPs are are on oddity, and this one a bit of a gem. Musically this bears the hallmarks of BHP’s later, (slightly!) more chipper records, with seemingly quite occasional help from not-the-ex-Wolverhampton-Wanderers-manager Solbakken. From the lost age of 2003.

Blue Mountain Eagle
Blue Mountain Eagle

Blue Mountain Eagle was born out of the late sixties/early seventies American psychedelic rock scene, evolving from Canadian/American rock group The New Buffalo Springfield. Originally released in 1970, this lost classic is a crate-digger’s treasure, reissued for the first time ever since its debut.

Clean Cut Kid
Pick Me Up

Clean Cut Kid are a Liverpool indie band who have yet to release a full-length album. Fans will thus grasp Pick Me Up, their third single, with great enthusiasm. Dan Sartain
Walk Among The Cobras

Alabama-born rockabilly-styled, bluesy rock ‘n’ roller Dan Sartain began his musical adventure at the turn of the century, touring with The White Stripes and The Hives. Darren Hayman And The Long Parliament
Four Queens

Death Cab For Cutie
Tractor Rape Chain

The classic 'Bee Thousand' era Guided By Voices track has been reworked by Mark Kozelek pal Ben Gibbard and his Death Cab For Cuties for a indie-rock geek guy pleasing 7". There's another song on the B side but I'm not sure what that is. It will set you back £10.99. I got a nice Mexican Wrap, fries and half a beer for that amount last night. Who's the winner?

Death Cab for Cutie / Freedy Johnston
Bad Reputation

Bad Reputation is released as part of the Rhino Side By Side series which sees two artists playing the same song. Bad Reputation was originally released in 1994 by songwriter’s songwriter, Freedy Johnston. That original version is featured here along with a version by US indie darlings Death Cab For Cutie.

Keep My Soul Awake

This reissue sees Orange County hardcore punk band Farside going back to the very beginning. Keep My Soul Awake was their first ever single and later appeared on their debut album Rochambeau. Interestingly, Zack De La Rocha had a brief stint with the band as a second guitarist before he fronted Rage Against The Machine. Keep My Soul Awake is available on limited edition blue vinyl 7”.

Frank Ilfman
Big Bad Wolves - Original Soundtrack

Pink and white with red splatter vinyl LP on Death Waltz. The highly imposing classical score to the Israeli film Big Bad Wolves by Frank Ilffman has received high praises from all camps, matching the film itself, it is a dark, and twist ridden ride.  A Record Store Day release, limited to 500 copies for the UK.

Profondo Rosso / Death Dies

Exclusive RSD 7" cut of yet another astonishing piece of feverish prog rock from the giallo horror soundtrack masters. Apparently Dario Argento wanted to book Pink Floyd to write the score but had to settle for Italian progsters Goblin- luckily for us! Two tracks that go from haunting melodies to delirious bombast and furiously angular funk.

Seven minutes of ghostly, funk-inflected prog from the one and only Italian kings of the soundtrack, Goblin. Split evenly across the two sides of vinyl, Chi? is the theme song to the 1970's TV show of the same name. Reissued for the very first time on limited vinyl 7” all the way from AMS Records.

Greasy Bear
Is Adrian There?

Folk/Rock band Greasy Bear hail from Manchester and feature C.P. Lee and Bruce Mitchell who went on to form Alberto Y Los Trios Paranoias. They were formed in 1969 and were considered to be the northern city’s answer to The Grateful Dead. Is Adrian There? was recorded in 1970 after the band struck a deal with Phillips/Vertigo. The deal fell through, the band split and the album remained unreleased - until now!

Hello Kitty On Ice
Man With A Hole In His Throat / The Answer

Neil Hamburger, the bizarre comic identity of Gregg Turkington, is well enough known these days to have had a major film made about him. But few were ever aware of Hello Kitty On Ice, his teenage hardcore band from 1983! Granted, that’s probably because no recordings were ever released… Until now! 7” release, quite appropriately on Burger Records.

Iggy Pop
Fire Engine

Fire Engine is an Iggy Pop single that never happened, recorded in 1983 but not released until Record Store Day 2016. As well as being a fierce and noisy slab of raw 80’s Iggy, the song is also noticeable for being co-written by Al Jourgensen of Ministry, who also contributes harsh guitar. Orange 7” on Easy Action.

Il Sogno Del Mariano
Whistling EP

Il Sogno Del Mariano is a collaboration made up of exploratory Italians Andrea Belfi and Stefano Pilia, as well as… (check this out) Mike Watt! The key Minutemen man’s bass slithers its way in and around sharp experimental rock structures. Whistling is their first released music since 2014. Limited edition 7”, released for Record Store Day.

Den Of Iniquity

Ltd double green vinyl LP on Organized Crime Records, includes 24”x36” poster and was a special release for Record Store Day 2014. This compilation consists of rare recordings spanning from 1989 up to 2010, dipping into splits, EPs, compilations and demo recordings. Serves equally as well as an introduction to Integrity or finding missed gems for the collector.

Reel It In

YNR head honcho Jehst’s record store day output is this limited 7”, featuring Blah records founder Lee Scott and hip hop experimenter Strange U. Minimal, squelching and skipping beat that only makes way for small soundscapes, a rubber band like bassline and distorted games bleeps. With YNR putting out very little nowadays, this is a must for collectors.

Johnny Cash
The Best Of The Johnny Cash TV Show

The Johnny Cash TV show was apparently a thing where the honourable country groover would be like, "hey, here's another country groover that isn't me", and we would see for ourselves how their music fared. Cash would perform too, of course, because how can you curate content if you can't also create it? This RSD compilation features the show's best and brightest performances, including Waylon Jennings, James Taylor, Cash with Lynn Anderson, Tammy Wynette and a rather fantastic coupling of Cash and Joni Mitchell (doing "Girl From The North Country", no less!). Also, Ray Charles does "Ring Of Fire". Pretty cool.

King Midas Sound

Here In Iowa Remix EP

Korraleven are no longer a going concern, having bowed out with the original version of Here In Iowa. But they are surely allowed this little bonus release, which gathers some assorted treats together, including a Peaking Lights remix and a live cover of Guns & Roses’ ‘November Rain’! 12” for Record Store Day, on Be With Records.

Morning Light

1997 saw the release of Mark Van Hoen’s fourth album as Locust. Morning Light also features guest appearances from Robert Fripp of King Crimson and Neil Halstead of Slowdive: wow! This double LP reissue chucks in some bonus tracks for good measure, as well as informative liner notes and an interview with Van Hoen. On Medical Records.

Loose Joints
Pop Your Funk: The Complete Singles Collection

Loose Joints were a short-lived late ‘70s/early ‘80s group helmed by the late, great avant garde musician/producer Arthur Russell as an outlet for his more dance-orientated work. Pop Your Funk: The Complete Single Collection contains six versions of All Over MY Face, including the original female vocal version by Larry Levan and more recent 2001 remixes by New York house duo Masters At Work. There are also a number of versions of Pop Your Funk and Tell You Today. This boxset is a completists dream!

Malcolm Middleton
You & I

A taster for his forthcoming 'Summer of '13' record this 7" contains three new tracks from the former Arab Strap bloke with his cheeky brand of Scottish pop. On Nude. I had no idea that label was still going. You learn something every single day including how to flub your way to a word limit.

Another masterpiece from 2015’s Record Store Day vault. Atlanta was only available on Adult Swim’s website, but now it’s on 12” vinyl as well. The intense track by the crazed Mastodon, featuring Gibby Haynes from Butthole Surfers on vocals, can finally meet its just deserts on ye olde sounde medium.

Max Jury
Numb / Standing On My Own

Max Jury is a singer/songwriter with a soulful, alt. country vibe. Both tracks on this limited edition 12” are taken from his forthcoming self-titled debut album. B-side Standing On My Own gets the full production treatment from Matthew E. White’s Spacebomb collective and is awash with horns and strings that will bring to mind labels such as Motown, Chess and Stax.

Mike Cooper & Derek Hall
Out of The Shades

A proper rarity this one: Out Of The Shades was the first time Mike Cooper’s sound was ever put to tape, and one of just a few examples of him playing with folk guitarist Derek Hall. First released in 1965, this is the only reissue these 4 tracks have ever seen! 7” with accompanying notes, on Paradise Of Bachelors.

Say You Will Be There

Apparently, Danish songbird MØ loves the Spice Girls and I’m sure she’s not the only one. She loves them so much that she saw covering Posh, Sporty, Ginger, Scary and Baby Spice’s 1996 hit Say You’ll Be There as “the next logical step”. Say You’ll Be There is available on limited edition 7” single.

Napalm Death
Leaders Not Followers

Red 10“ vinyl, limited to 1000 copies, released on Secret Records for record store day 2013. Originally released in 1999 this 10” Napalm Death provide 6 covers of punk and metal bands that have been their major influences. Including the blistering cover of "Nazi Punks Fuck Off" by Dead Kennedys and "Demoniac Possession" by Chilean thrashers Pentagram.

Nico Fidenco
Emanuelle Perche' Violenza Alle Donne? aka The Violation Of Emanuelle

A soundtrack reissue from the guys at Death Walz, this one is the work of Nico Fidenco for the film Emanuelle perché violenza alle donne? (The Violation of Emanuelle). The film’s about sex and human trafficking and the music hits that gritty, exciting, up-tempo, sexy beat. Treat yourself.

Parquet Courts
Sunbathing Animal (single)

After a meteoric rise in a crazy 12 months that saw Parquet Courts go from playing small clubs in their native New York to national TV shows in the USA, they release the first single Sunbathing Animal, from the forthcoming album of the same name. This 7” single is a limited edition of 1000 copies.

Piero Umiliani
La Legge Dei Gangsters (Gangster’s Law)

Another vintage score from Piero Umiliani, a real pro with cinema music. La Legge Dei Gangsters, dating from 1969, featured Klaus Kinski running around and getting involved in gangster capers, and Umiliani’s soundtrack provides rich dramatic accompaniment. This release is the first ever release of the full score on vinyl, courtesy of Dagored.

Robbie Hill's Family Affair
Gotta Get Back: The Unreleased L.A. Sessions

Originally recorded in Los Angeles in January 1975, these five tracks were all but lost in the ether. Light In The Attic continues the fine tradition for essential reissues with the Seattle soul of Robbie Hill’s Family Affair. It’s sweet, funky and beautifully mixed to show the band at their best. Out on vinyl LP limited to 2000 numbered copies.

Run The Jewels
VRTJ Viewer

Esteemed rap duo and cat advocate society Run The Jewels are having a good time releasing acclaimed self-titled records with different numbers at the end of them -- they're half way through completing no. 3 as we speak -- so here's a nifty looking piece of cardboard branded after them, for your viewing pleasure. Ah, RSD, never change.

Smile Down Upon Us
Smile Down Upon Us

The second album from the playful UK/Japanese group Smile Down Upon Us. Feisty, joyful and bright with everything from flute and cello to spoken word in both English and Japanese makes for a delightful listen. Sophia Knapp / AOP

Stanley Brinks and The Kaniks
Turtle Dove

Stanley Brinks, perhaps better known as Andre Herman Dune, follows two collaborative albums with The Wave Pictures by collaborating with Norwegian Folk group The Kaniks. Recorded on a remote Norwegian island and inspired by midnight swims and midnight beer drinking, Brinks and the Kaniks recorded three albums. Turtle Dove is the first to see the light of day. Pressed on blue vinyl and housed in gatefold sleeve.

Stephen John Kalinich
A World Of Peace Must Come

Oddball 1960's poetry record from renowned Beach Boys lyricist performing some of his very own super idealistic poetry under hazy lights. If you like spoken word stuff about world peace etc then A World of Peace Must Come is the record for you. The main draw for Beach Boys completists is that it is produced by affable harmoniser Brian Wilson who also adds some of his unique sound sorcery and proto ambient twiddles to the mix.

Svarte Greiner / Lakes Of Grass And Gold
Landscape Of Open Eyes

Landscape Of Open Eyes is a real curio of a RSD release for 2013 -- glorious snippets of dark, filmic worlds on a 7” single.  Svarte Greiner of the excellent Deaf Center is here with some familiar cello/guitar treatments. Lakes of Grass and Gold is Swede musician/composer Erik Enocksson melding organic instrumentation with lashings of distorto-noise. Comes with a download code.

The Flaming Lips
Bad Days

‘Bad Days’ is part of a series of three 10’’ EP’s to mark the twentieth anniversary of The Flaming Lips critically acclaimed seventh album ‘Clouds Taste Metallic’. Each EP includes material previously only available on CD and they’re all on different coloured vinyl. Featuring primitive demos of ‘She Don’t Use Jelly’ and ‘Giraffe’, this is a rare treasure for any Flaming Lips fan.

The Heads
Nobody Knows

Re-issue culture reaches new and confusing heights with this issue of rehearsal tracks found by members of The Heads when they were putting together the bonus tracks for their 'Everybody Knows We Got Nowhere' re-issue. So, effectively this is bonus stuff from the bonus tracks..... we think. In any case The Heads records usually beat a path out of our office at an alarming rate of knots so don't expect this to hang around too long.

The Libertines
Anthems For Doomed Youth

So, The Libertines actually made a new album to accompany that big-money live reunion. Anthems For Doomed Youth is that album, approaching their much loved sound from an older, possibly wiser position. An interesting prospect considering the inherently youthful nature of the band’s earlier work… Twelve tracks, or sixteen should you choose the deluxe edition CD.

The Residents

Available on 180 gram clear vinyl on Music on Vinyl. Avantgarde and anonymous art collective The Residents Originally released Intermissions in 1982. They made it very clear that it was not the 3rd chapter of the Mole trilogy (which seemed to never actually exist), but a cutting of related materials. Limited repressing of 1000 copies.

The Rolling Stones
Got Live If You Want It EP

Got Live If You Want It was recorded on The Rolling Stones' fifth UK tour in 1965 at shows in London, Manchester and Liverpool. This was the Rolling Stones' third and final 7’’ EP for New York independent record label ABKCO. Renowned for its raw sound quality, the record has more appeal as a historical document than as a piece of music.

Throwing Snow
Mosaic VIPs

Three tracks from Throwing Snow’s full length LP Mosaic, remixed for Record Store Day. On this limited edition EP (340 for the UK and Ireland) his tracks have attained a catchy feel, geared towards opening sets or the last songs you listen to before you head out to the party. A must-have for the collectors!

Todd Rundgren, Hans-Peter Lindstrøm & Emil Nikolaisen
Put Your Arms Around Me

Old school rock dude Todd Rundgren has an album coming out soon on Smalltown Supersound, on which he collaborates with Hans-Peter Lindstrøm, of nu-disco fame, and Serena-Maneesh shoegazer Emil Nikolaisen. Surprising eh? Here is a 12” with one preview track and one exclusive acapella track.

Electroconvulsive Therapy Vol. 3

180g blue and magenta vinyl on Medical records. A collection of extremely rare synth pop, cold wave and electro tracks. Coming from early to late 80s Medical Records have be scouring cassettes and compilations to find these tracks that have either been lost, or are so rare on vinyl the market has made them so expensive. Der Zeltweg - Italian Tapes Industrial Music Volume 2 features lots of weird goodness from acts like Herpes-z and The Psychopathic Blossom, much of it ultra rare and / or previously unreleased. Edition of 500 vinyl LPs on Mannequin.

Virginia Wing

Probably one of the better Record Store Day releases this year, ace London quartet Virginia Wing tease you a couple of new tracks from what will be their brand new record in due course.
