Dawn McCarthy
Traveller Returning : Circa 1997-2000

Traveller Returning: Circa 1997-2000 by Dawn McCarthy is a collection of songs that were inspired by McCarthy’s travels away from her native New York City. It shows her transitioning and finding her own voice. They are early versions of songs that would become the core of her band, Faun Fables’ setlist. Upon revisiting the recording for this cassette, McCarthy said that the versions of the songs on here are “some of the best versions of them despite the crude recordings”.

Elysia Crampton
Bound Adam

Elysia Crampton is an American artist and has previously worked under the name E&E. Bound Adam was originally self-released digitally in 2011 but is now available on vinyl for the first time. This 7” features three mini-soundscapes inspired by her relationship with her Ford Ranger SUV. On Total Stasis.

Faces of Drums / Steve Poindexter
Faces Drums / Short Circuit

A reissue 12” here that gathers classic old tracks from Steve Poindexter and his Faces of Drums alias. Acidic, staccato percussion punches its way over the top of the tunes, while on the B-side lies a remix from Africans With Mainframes, a duo containing, let’s not forget, Hieroglyphic Being. On Musique.

Gagakirise and EYE

Japanese noise-rockers Gagakrise recently got the opportunity to ally with one of their musical godfathers: EYE of the mighty Boredoms. This 7” bursts out at you with furious drumming, feedback-laden guitar and traditionally-EYE-like insane screams, making for a very good time all round. Only available from independent shops!

Innercity presents his catchily titled new record, ABABABABABABAS (Blue Lion Child), a dense and messy sound-wall that is ostensibly ambient, but practically a lot closer to noise. Textures all over the shop, generated with guitars and violins and put through big racks of something heavy. LP on Further Records.

Mighty Baron III / Sun Runners 女神の恋人達
Screwe'd / The Finest

Two very strong rollers here on this 7” released by Apron. On the one side we have Mighty Baron III with a track, Screwe’d that does indeed sound both mighty and screwed. On the flip is Sun Runners 女神の恋人達, with The Finest, a track that sounds like a resurrected 80’s pop jam. Unusual stuff on this highly limited 7”.

Olan Mill
Cavade Morlem

Olan Mill is proud to present Cavade Morlem, a richly textured album of drone-based composition, built up from original tracks of voice, organ, violin and guitar (though much of the time, the origins of the sounds are obscured). A calming slice of sound, appropriately released on the Dronarivm album.

Public Image Limited
Double Trouble

The first single from Public Image Limited’s latest album, What The World Needs Now..., Double Trouble could be mistaken as a Sleaford Mods single as it kicks off, with Lydon delivering his classically cheeky and bruising vocals. It then descends into a punky dance song with a driving riff and even though it’s playing from a 10” vinyl, you get the sense of Lydon being one of the world’s best performers, as he undoubtedly is.    10” vinyl single backed with Betty Page and non album song, Turkey Tits.

Roger Waters
Amused To Death

One of Pink Floyd's prime crooners and fretboys, Roger Waters also released a bunch of solo material, including the questionably titled Amused To Death, which dealt with every-day existential crises through intricately arranged rock that went from prog to soft. Released an age or two ago, it's now getting a reissue so you can hear all of Water's symphonic, Orwellian murmurings.

Saturn and the Sun
Harsh Realities, Broken Bones and Skull Tones

Joachim Nordwall and Henrik Rylander are part of Swedish rock group The Skull Defekts. However, as Saturn And The Sun the duo the make music that centres around cacophonous electronic music and drones. Harsh Realities, Broken Bones & Skin Tones is a 38 minute-long cassette featuring four pieces of such music for your pleasure.

Saturn and the Sun
Journey To The Center Of Your Mind

Saturn & The Sun are a Swedish drone duo made up of Joachim Nordwall and Henrik Rylander. Journey To The Centre Of Your Mind features oppressive, heavy drone pieces the size of planets. The music leaves you feeling like you’ve landed in some post-apocalyptic wasteland. Side One has fiery synths bolted down by bone-crunching bass drone whereas side two begins in a more desolate fashion, building to a crescendo of heavyweight buzzing synth noise.

Small Feet
From Far Enough Away Everything Sounds Like The Ocean

Small Feet present their debut album, the thoughtfully titled From Far Enough Away Everything Sounds Like The Ocean. What you’ll find here are vocally led songs with a strong sense of drama, Simon Stålhamre swooping in his voice in and out of the shuffling instrumentals. CD or LP on Control Freak Kitten.

Terry de Castro
You Can’t Separate Light

Terry De Castro has a busy history, having played with The Wedding Present, Cinerama and Goya Dress. Solo, she steps away from the bass guitar with which she has made her name and steps to the mic, where she delivers heartfelt Americana. You Can’t Separate Light is her second solo outing, released by Scopitones on clear vinyl.
