Justin Wiggan & Maurizio Bianchi

Italian experimental artist Maurizio Bianchi gets together with British sound designer Justin Wiggan for the first of a new series of collaborative albums. Released on a painfully limited run of just 20 cassette copies, THEMENISHI (Volume One) combines soundscapes of electronic drone with dissonant elements of melody and texture.

Following the release of their second Whitney album last year, Forever Turned Around, Max Kakacek and Julien Ehrlich went to ground to record a collection of cover versions, showcasing their shared formative influences. Candid contains revealing takes on songs by Kelela, Damien Jurado, David Byrne and John Denver’s immortal ‘Country Roads’ with Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield.

Endless Space (Between You & I)

Samira Winter delivers the third album of heady psychedelic shoegaze by her eponymous, bi-lingual indie band Winter via the Bar-None label. With lyrics as ever in both Portuguese and English, Endless Space (Between You & I) ought to see the talented songwriter and singer build up her profile even further.

Video Age
Pleasure Line

Perhaps indicated by its availability on a more limited ‘purple royalty’ coloured vinyl, Video Age have been mining their classic Eighties pop influences even more thoroughly than ever before on third studio album Pleasure Line. Perhaps motivated by Ross Farbe and Ray Micarelli’s upcoming weddings, bright, optimistic pop melodies shine hard here.

Washed Out
Purple Noon

Ernest Greene brings his Washed Out project back to Sub Pop for the project’s fourth studio album. On Purple Noon, the chillwave pioneer teams up once again with producer Ben H. Allen and ventures even further into hip-hop and R&B territory, with bright, sharply-defined sounds the order of the day.

The Pheromoans
I, Mustard Mitt

More new music from the fantastically named The Pheromoans, who deliver a companion piece to last year’s studio album County Lines in the form of I, Mustard Mitt. Released on cassette, it’s a tight yet artistically free-spirited collection of minimalist guitar structures, drum machines and spoken word.

Hiroshi Yoshimura

Hiroshi Yoshimura was an ambient music pioneer but sadly his music barely made it out of his native Japan in his lifetime. His debut album, Music For Nine Postcards, was reissued in 2017 and, along with him being discovered on YouTube, his popularity grew some 14 years after his death. Now we have his groundbreaking ambient masterpiece Green, reissued through Light In The Attic.
