Nilüfer Yanya
Do You Like Pain?

Young romantic Nilüfer Yanya has been making waves of late with her spirited bedroom pop. Do You Like Pain? might be the record that catapults the Londoner to mainstream attention - especially considering her recent appearance in the BBC’s Sound of 2018 list. Her two originals here are concocted largely from drum machines, guitars, saxophone and her breathy, intimate vocal style. Sonic touchstones include Zola Jesus and Angel Olsen. Also features remixes by AlaskaAlaska and Jazzi Bobbi. You heard her here first.

Joviale
Crisis

Though they’ve only been going for a couple of years, the Blue Flowers imprint have already proven themselves adept at spotting talented young singer-songwriters who operate in that kind of King Krule mode. Joining the likes of Westerman and Puma Blue on the label’s roster is young Londoner Joviale, whose debut EP Crisis is another set of soulful and brooding bedroom indie tracks. We expect Joviale’s star to rise pretty high off the back of this one. Crisis was produced by Bullion, dontcha know.

Puma Blue
Only Trying 2 Tell U

Puma Blue drops his latest single via Blue Flowers (Westerman, Nilüfer Yanya), and it’s a lovely thing. ‘Only Trying 2 Tell U’ is spare, streetwise contemporary r&b that draws from contemporaries like King Krule and FKA Twigs as well the older heads of Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu. Mr. Blue has also got the best falsetto you’ll hear in 2019. One to cop before this guy goes stratospheric.

Westerman
Confirmation

Hotly-tipped London auteur Westerman returns to the fledgling Blue Flowers imprint with new single ‘Confirmation’. 2017’s Call And Response EP brought free-flowing comparisons to Nick Drake and Arthur Russell, and those influences remain strong on this track. Add in a bit of a ‘Wicked Game’ flavour and a few ooh-what’s-he-done-there chord-changes and you've got yourself a leftfield indie hit.

Westerman
Edison

The comparisons to Arthur Russell have flown freely for Westerman since his emergence a couple of years back. Russell certainly lurks in the corners of Westerman’s new single ‘Edison’ - their singing voices in particular are uncannily similar - though the song is very much drawing from the Love Is Overtaking Me end of the spectrum. That means there’s room for plenty of other welcoming folk-/soft-rock influences here - Belle & Sebastian, Future Islands and Jens Lekman all come to mind.

Gotts Street Park
Volume One

There is so much to Leeds based outfit Gotts Street Park. A mash of the more chilled lounge and piano indie that is around today, Volume One is a compilation of varying artists from the area. There is no better music for relaxing and embracing your thoughts than triplet swinging easy jazz. Released on ‘Blue Flowers Music’ and available on Vinyl 12”.
