Hontatedori
Konata Kanata

Hontatedori is comprised of Tokyo-based musical trio Taku Unami, Moé Kamura and Tetuzi Akiyama. Although certainly recognised as individual performers of some stature, ‘Konata Kanata’ is nevertheless their sophomore album following 2013's self-titled debut LP. The record generously gives us more of Kamura's endearingly fragile voice, planted between the twin crystalline sound-worlds of Unami and Akiyama's explorative guitars. Around the edges of the tapestry you might discover a fringe thread of subtle funk, chilled psychedelia or refracted film score. LP only, on the Blue Chopsticks label; David Grubbs' Drag City affiliate.

David Grubbs
Creep Mission

David Grubbs, one of the two masterminds behind Gastr Del Sol as well as a superb music writer, presents an album of explorative guitar pieces, sketched out with the assistance of boundary-pushers like Eli Keszler on drums and Nate Wooley on trumpet. Partially composed and partially improvised, but all fascinating and exciting. Creep Mission is released by Blue Chopsticks.

David Grubbs
Prismrose

Thinker and guitarist David Grubbs presents six mostly instrumental pieces for electric guitar on Primrose. Half of the album also features the highly combustible drumming of Eli Keszler, and the tracks performed include a setting of a Walt Whitman poem and an arrangement of the 14th century maestro Guillame de Machaut! How’s that eh? On Blue Chopsticks.

Susan Howe & David Grubbs
WOODSLIPPERCOUNTERCLATTER

David Grubbs (former member of Gastr del Sol) has been working together with poet Susan Howe for ten years and three albums so far, and WOODSLIPPERCOUNTERCLATTER is their fourth. Piano and quiet field recordings mix with Howe's words to form a delicate and thoughtful set of pieces. On Blue Chopsticks.

Noel Akchote
Gesualdo: Madrigals for Five Guitars

French guitarist Akchoté is best known for his many collaborations, noteably with Derek Bailey, Evan Parker and Lol Coxhill. However, more recently he has developed a fascination with medieval / Rennaissance music. Here, he has assembled five electric guitarists to tackle Rennaissance composer Carlo Gesualdo's madrigals, exchanging the traditional lute for a more modern twist. Polyphonictastic!

Andrea Belfi / David Grubbs / Stefano Pilia
Onrushing Cloud

Questing instrumentals from the trio of Andrea Belfi (The Swifter), David Grubbs (Gastr del Sol) and Stefano Pilia (Medves). Onrushing Cloud keeps it fairly abstract, focusing on texture rather than grand individual gestures, although the trio do move towards louder, thicker droning as the album continues. On Blue Chopsticks.
