Charalambides
Charalambides: Tom and Christina Carter

Though Tom and Christina Carter have enjoyed long and varied solo careers, they are also known for their long running acid-fried improvisational duo Charalambides. You'd think from the title that this was a 'best of' of some sort but no this is a new studio album, delving deeper into their hypnotic world. Recorded over two sessions with no overdubs this is sure to be a fascinating take on the duo at work.

Samara Lubelski
Flickers At The Station

Samara Lubelski is an experimental musician with plenty of credentials in the world of avant-garde improvisation and suchlike, but here on Flickers At The Station she brings her musicianship and songwriting into the service of highly listenable psychedelic pop music, with the kind of lush mystique of some of the best sixties beat combos. LP on Drawing Room Records.

Cruel Diagonals
Disambiguation

Drawing Room Records present the debut LP from Bay Area vocalist/field recordist Megan Mitchell’s Cruel Diagonals project. Disambiguation is an unsettling listen, with Mitchell utilising electronic sequences and synthesised hums alongside the sounds she’s found and the ones she’s made with her voice. The lines between electroacoustic composition, ambient techno and drone blur nicely here, and the end result recalls Holly Herndon.

Medicine
2.0 Extraneous

Having last released an album in 2014, noise-rock and electronic band, Medicine return with an album of alternative dance tracks, ready for the dance floors of 2017 and the future. 2.0 Extraneous sounds experimental and in places, alienating, but there are dance hooks abound and distorted sounds come together to make an album of solid songs.

United Waters
The Narrows

This immersive offering is hard evidence that United Waters have the skill to step out of the shadows of cloudy production, and present bold and ambitious songwriting. Whilst rock still provides the spine during The Narrows, a step into pop and balladry from such hits as 'Move The Distance' and 'Least Turn' offers a new dimension to this ascending group.

Charalambides
Strangle The Wretched Heavens

Charalambides are Tom and Christina Carter, and they have been exploring obscure regions of psychedelic improvised guitar for many years now. The deep jams of Strangle The Wretched Heavers were recorded in the mid-1990’s, and yet have retained their special feeling to this very day. Pressed to 180g vinyl and released by Drawing Room Records, along with a fold-out poster.

Charalambides
Glowing Raw

Charalambides are Tom and Christina Carter, and they have been exploring obscure regions of psychedelic improvised guitar for many years now. This is the first time that Glowing Raw has been issued on vinyl, and it sounds all the more enveloping for it. Released by Drawing Room Records, along with a fold-out poster.

Samara Lubelski
The Gilded Raid

Samara Lubelski shines in all sorts of genres, from free-improvised sound exploration to thick, heady drones. Here on The Gilded Raid, she plays like a 70’s folk-rock songwriter extraordinaire, only with more out-there production: the songs here are sheathed in radiant sonic magic. Great stuff from Lubelski, on Drawing Room Records.
