Morphology are a duo from Finland, but they are looking to outer space. Right from its title and airlock cover art, Traveller sets a strong tone of vintage space-electro, with lush pads, propulsive acidy basslines and the crucial high-energy drum patterns. Deep stuff over ten tracks and two vinyl LPs. On FireScope Records.

Steven Rutter & Kirk Degiorgio
Braconian Beta

The latest drop on Firescope Records finds label boss Steven Rutter (B12) team up with Kirk Degiorgio (As One) for an EP of retrofuturist club fare. Braconian Beta sees the two techno veterans using their old-school knowhow to show the young pretenders how it’s done. The stargazing techno tracks here are a similar brand of Detroit revivalism to Space Dimension Controller.

Vinkelvolten II

Bauri returns to B12 offshoot FireScope Records (Derek Carr, Steven Rutter) with the follow-up to 2017’s Vinkelvolten EP. Vinkelvolten II is another salvo of friendly downtempo electro. There’s a bit of an Oliver Postgate vibe to this thing, particularly on the twinkly and trip-hop-influenced title track and ‘Cocoon’. Boards Of Canada also spring to mind at points.

Steven Rutter & John Shima
Step Into The Light

FireScope Records is run by one Steven Rutter who on Step Into The Light is collaborating with John Shima. These tracks all carry an optimism that is more than welcome in 2018. Addictive drum buttons layered with a warm ambience contrast with tracks that have a bit more bounce.

Derek Carr
Distant Systems

Westmeath, Ireland's Derek Carr is an established figure with a fair few classics under his belt. He developed his finely crafted style of techno after digesting comps such as Bio-Rhythms and 'Pioneers of the Hypnotic Groove' from Warp. Deep, soulful techno with nods to Kraftwerk's melodicism and Depeche Mode's throbbing pop. Distant Systems' 4 tracks have 808 kicks, lush pads and other-wordly vibes. On marble vinyl with full colour artwork by J. McCreadie.

Steven Rutter

Coloured vinyl klaxon! Double-disc alarm! Kickass artwork alert! If you're not already sold, a quick listen to the latest release from Steven Rutter—head honcho at FireScope Records—will do it. With 12 tracks of melancholic grooves, stomping techno and nods to classic hip-hop, 'BrainFog' travels from introspective doom and gloom to euphoric moments of lightness and hope.

John Shima
Elements Unknown

John Shima releases his latest record on FireScope Records with a four-track EP entitled Elements Unknown. Described as being a collection of songs that lets you drift away into a head-heavy trance of pure techno and solid musical architecture, giving you a good while away from real life. Available on Vinyl 12”.

Darren Nye
Emotional Intelligence

Darren Nye's long career as a musician and producer has gained precise traction on 'Emotional Intelligence', where clean, synthesised spaces are allowed to breathe and expand over glimmering beats. Reference points would include Selected Ambient Works 85-92 and whole host of Skam and Rephlex artists.

Swedish producer Martin Abrahamsson has journeyed around electronica subgenres releasing on Drumcode, Neo Ouija, Sloboda, and now moves to B12 sub-label Firescope with an EP of older tracks that are sublime and fuzzy warm. A chilled abstracted beat middle ground between Iambic 5 Poetry Squarepusher, Aphex Twin and Boards Of Canada.

Steven Rutter
From Me To You

Since the early '90's Steven Rutter has been half of B12 alongside Mike Golding. Now he’s unleashing some uplifting techno, occasionally tempered with contemplative darkness on FireScope. Complete with his signature drum style and skillful programming of the ol’ 808, From Me To You will is the latest chapter in the UK Techno trailblazer's career.

B12 are a long-running duo working in and around the genres of techno and IDM. Their 90’s roots (they’ve been released on Warp Records) shine through on Mindbender, their new four-track release. Pressed to purple and black splatter vinyl on FireScope Records, which is a sub-label of the duo’s own B12 Records.

B12 ft. Yonii
In Vain

B12 are a long-running duo working in and around the genres of techno and IDM. Their 90’s roots (they’ve been released on Warp Records) shine through on this EP, which also features the sensitive vocals of Yonii. Her voice balances out the slight darkness of the electronics very nicely. Pressed to white and green splatter vinyl on FireScope Records.

Deceased Unknown

Central to the UK techno scene since the '90s, B12 launch Deceased Unknown, their latest EP. Recently making new music for the legendary Soma and Delsin, here the duo give us four slices of the deep and dark stuff on their new sub-label. Complex drums, organ chords and gnarled basslines lurk within the grooves. Red & black splatter vinyl with glorious artwork by Sarah Sparkes, on FireScope.

An Eternal Flame

The style of the sleeve art might tip you off that this is firmly 90’s style music right here, but don’t worry: the standard of B12’s techno is a lot higher than the standard of their art design. An Eternal Flame’s four tracks are thoughtful and spacey and imaginative. Coloured vinyl 12” on the FireScope Records imprint.

The FireScope label launches with some ace UK techno from B12. On BrokenUnBroken the iconic electronica duo express their love for that warm and futuristic Detroit sound, without neglecting their roots in UK rave and ambient techno. Luscious synth pads and intense drum programming set the label’s tone.
