Charlotte de Witte
Brussels EP

Charlotte de Witte squeezes in another EP just before the end of the year - that’s a tally of four for 2017 alone. Brussels EP offers up three techno productions built around hard beats, various vocal deliveries (semi-spoken on the title track, pitched-down into monster grunts on ‘Control’) and sparse synth.

Nicolas Bougaïeff
On The Grid

Canadian DJ/producer Nicolas Bougaïeff has been turning heads with his Berghain bangers for a couple of years now, and new EP On The Grid sees one of the hottest prospects in techno come through with another outstanding set of tunes. Cuts like ‘Eden Configuration’ and ‘Skyscraper Model’ are reminiscent of Ellen Allien and Paula Temple, while On The Grid’s title track is the sort of dystopian jack one associates with labels like Super Rhythm Trax. Great stuff.

Terence Fixmer
The Swarm EP

Terence Fixmer is back on NovaMute for his latest EP. The Swarm, features the first tracks Fixmer made with his Roland System 100, allowing him to create something that is just as pure in its intent as it is its execution. Minimal techno of the sort that recalls Ben Klock and Marcel Dettmann. As inventive as always.

Fidelity Kastrow
Daughter Of Darkness EP

Straight from the thriving Berlin nightclub scene comes the latest EP from DJ and producer Fidelity Kastrow. Full of driving rhythms and melancholic, dreamy soundscapes, Daughter of Darkness has been extensively crowd-tested in the main room of the iconic Sisyphos, where Kastrow is a long-time resident DJ.

Charlotte de Witte
The Healer EP

Belgian DJ and producer Charlotte de Witte got out five EPs last year, and continues to be a veritable techno factory in 2018 with this, her third for the year so far. Title track is shuddering, high-tempo atmospherics with skittering hats, carried on a belt of intense choir drones and noirish synth strings. The EP continues with the hypnotic ‘Silence’, muscular ‘Kuda’ and heady ambience of ‘Song of the Wood Nymphs’.

São Paulo producer Anna Miranda aka DJ Anna partners with ol’ London technoheads NovaMute for Razor. The title piece has a focused, funky minimal dancefloor feel, but also keeps fun in reserve. Still, it’s outshined by its pals ‘Dreamweaver’ and especially ‘Escapism’, each with a heavier, faster floor rhythm and each making wonderful use of stripped down arpeggios and refined atmospherics.

Nicolas Bougaïeff
Permutation Djinn

Permutation Djinn is a record by Nicolas Bougaïeff that is inspired by Permutation City, a novel by Greg Egan. With touches of music familiar to the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Charlotte de Witte and Chris Liebing, this is one that contains head banging, floor filling and club friendly tracks alongside sophisticated electronic music to compliment Egan's writing. Available on vinyl 12", and released on Novamute.

Nicolas Bougaïeff
Cognitive Resonance

I wonder if any of my university lecturers released a rave thumper LP? Here is Nicolas Bougaïeff, a university lecturer among other things and here we have a 12” LP of psytrance and techno bangers on NovaMute. Cognitive Resonance shifts from classic techno rhythms to sparse trance and beyond. To get before it’s gone.
