Homeshake
Helium

Homeshake is the project from Peter Sagar  - an escapee from the Mac De Marco touring band who has already issued several dollops of R&B influenced lo-fi pop. Helium is the product of both a much clearer mental state for the artist and of a new home recording set up which allowed him to tinker further with his tracks following increased interest in ambient and electronic compositions.

Tim Cohen
The Modern World

The latest solo LP from Tim Cohen arrives courtesy of Sinderlyn (Homeshake, Cymbals Eat Guitars). Cohen may not reinvent the wheel on The Modern World, but what he does he does very well indeed. His songwriting style is a mixture of hard-bitten and soft, melancholy and hopeful, in a manner that recalls Eels and Girls. Throw in a good way with a tune and a warm, clear tenor and you’ve got yourself a winning record.

Sarah Mary Chadwick
Sugar Still Melts In The Rain

It does. Nothing has changed there. Sarah Mary Chadwick likes telling us stuff. Last time out she told us 'Roses Always Die' which is also true. Her splintered, confessional folk music is bare and autobiographical and influenced by the reams of oddball New Zealand musicians who have carved careers doing their own thing amid worldwide indifference.

Jackson MacIntosh
My Dark Side

Jackson MacIntosh has been hanging around in the shadows for long enough. He’s played bass as a touring member of Montreal band TOPS, recorded and engineered for Homeshake and collaborated with Drugdealer and Bernardino Femminielli. He also fronted power pop band Sheer Agony. Now, however, he strikes out on his own with debut album, and possibly the world’s first album inspired by two relationship break-ups, My Dark Side. LP and CD on Sinderlyn.

Jaye Bartell
In A Time Of Trouble, A Wild Exultation

A mature-feeling selection from Jaye Bartell. Third album In A Time Of Trouble, A Wild Exaltation was recorded in live sessions in Bartell’s home town, with pleasant details like chimes in an open window adding to the crystal-clear band recordings. Features Ahleuchatistas and Angel Olsen on guest spots. Out on Sinderlyn.

HOMESHAKE
Midnight Snack

Homeshake a.k.a Peter Sagar follows his 2014 debut with Midnight Snack, a distinctly R&B tinged collection of synthesizer jams. After leaving the Mac DeMarco touring band it’s clear that Sagar has had time to reflect and express some of his post-tour comedown anxieties in this record. Out on CD and vinyl LP from Sinderlyn.

Cults
Offering

Cults  - yes they did spell their name correctly - have returned with their second effort and according to the press release are now working in technicolour rather than their previous black and white. It says these songs are bursting with melody and invention using new song structures and buzzing synths to forge their brave new world.

Walter TV
Carpe Diem

These indie warblers made a mini-shambles with their excellent record record Blessed, so it's to the good that Walter TV are back to make another dream-sequence ruckus. Veering slightly more towards a professional production than past endeavours, they continue to pack hooks in a sound that paraphrases the indie lexicon in corners containing Modest Mouse and the Figurines.

The Fresh & Onlys
Wolf Lie Down

The latest chapter in the ongoing sound world of the Fresh and Only's took them three years to complete but continues the anything goes art punk/ technicolour garage pop of their previous five full length releases. The band is nothing if not multi faceted and here take you on a journey through jangle pop, desert rock and primitive rock and roll.

Novella
Change of State

London based Novella provide a soul warming slab of indie rock with a psychedelic tinge. Returning to Sinderlyn with a follow up album to their debut Land, Change Of State is a reflection on returning from touring to a very different Britain, politically and socially. Stripping back to bare basics by recording straight to 8-track with James Hoare  of Veronica Falls adds an exposed charm.

Homeshake
Fresh Air

Homeshake is a chill guy. As chill as you imagine someone might be who escaped the presumed nightmare of being in Mac De Marco's backing band. He now makes laid back home made lo-fi soul seemingly made on the cheapest keyboards ever but it reminds us of relaxing on a summers day so all is good. Slinky and warm this should sound nice when the sun shines.

Tim Cohen
Luck Man

Tim Cohen, who you might know from The Fresh & Only’s or from Magic Trick, strikes out with a solo record. Luck Man is filled with songs that are apparently Tim’s way of filling an existential void, meaning that we get to go nice and deep with him. Not that these are bleak numbers: these are subtle songs. Released by Sinderlyn.

Cymbals Eat Guitars
Pretty Years

Pressed so loud that I literally jumped out of my skin when it started playing, this is the latest album from the formerly interesting indie rockers continues their run towards mainstream rock with belched, vomited vocals over friendly indie rock guitars and synths that don't get let you think too hard. Strangely Springsteen - perhaps this ambitious album could set them free?

HOMESHAKE
In The Shower

This was the first “proper” full-length album release from HOMESHAKE, following a smattering of fine cassettes, initially issued in 2014. Weirdly-tinged bedroom indie-R&B is the name of the game, with main man Peter Sagar slinking around his songs like someone with love on his mind. In The Shower is out on Sinderlyn / Captured Tracks.

Alex Bleeker and The Freaks
Country Agenda

Another warm collection of country-tinged tunes from the every-improving Alex Bleeker & The Freaks. As bass player in Real Estate Bleeker knows a thing or two about intelligent songwriting - proven further here with Country Agenda - a passionate yet understated album. Out on CD and vinyl LP from Sinderlyn.

Jaye Bartell
Loyalty

Jaye Bartell is a singer/songwriter and poet who originates from Massachusetts. A transient figure, he began work on his new album, Loyalty after moving to Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Loyalty is a dark and brooding gothic folk work, the music being the perfect backdrop for his rich, full toned voice and expressive lyrics.

Walter TV
Blessed

Walter TV are contemporary nomads of Canadian basement origins. ‘Blessed’ was recorded and mixed between the bands shared apartment in Montreal, LA and on tour (whilst members Joe and Pierce were away touring with Mac DeMarco). It’s DIY surf metal, with punk sensibilities and an obvious soft spot for heavy metal shredding.

Novella
Land

Novella, of sunny Brighton, are devoted '60s counterculture fans, and they aren’t afraid to display that in their music. Land is their debut album, and it brings together the two opposing ends of that sphere of influence: the acid-blasted riffing and the blissed psychedelic pop. Arrives neatly in the present day via the likes of Stereolab and Broadcast, Land is released by Sinderlyn and Captured Tracks.
