Annette Brissett
Betrayed

A track from reggae singer Annette Brissett’s excellent 1983 LP Love Power, pulled out onto a 12” single and rounded out with some tantalising dub treats. Betrayed itself is here in an exclusive extended mix, and the three dub tracks (one of ‘Betrayed’ and two of ‘What A Feeling’) are all previously unreleased and joyfully fabulous. Wackie’s 12”.

Annette Brissett
Love Power

Excellent, hard-to-find LP from reggae singer Annette Brissett, reissued by Wackie’s. Love Power is of 1983 vintage, cruising down the street smoothly and coolly, taking a little gospel and a little disco in its stride as it goes. Brissett’s voice is supported by Fabian Cooke and Lloyd Bullwackie Barnes, who take ample care of most of the instruments.

Jah B
Vampire

Latest in Mark Ernestus and Moritz von Oswald's (aka Basic Channel) long-standing reissue campaign of releases from the legendary reggae label, Wackies. This time the headline track is Jah B's Vampire, which really stands out for its freaky and creepy guitar playing. The record also features a 'Vampire' version of the track from Wackie’s Rhythm Force.

Prince Douglas
Dub Roots

Superb-grade dub from Prince Douglas, produced in 1980 and much clamoured after by dubheads ever since. The Prince used a Steel Pulse record and a tape by the legendary studio rhythm section Sly & Robbie as source material (among other bits and pieces), creating whole new worlds of reverb and skank. Dub Roots is reissued by Wackie’s.

Love Joys
Reggae Vibes

This was the Love Joys first record released in 1981 on Top Ranking. Full of reggae vibes ranging from sweet lovers rock to uptempo vibes. Long out of print, the album will appeal to fans of vintage reggae and roots music with sweet vocal harmonies and stellar songwriting. Ten tracks written and produced at the legendary Wackies.

Horace Andy
Dance Hall Style

Horace Andy managed to pick himself out a very successful second career as vocalist on some of Massive Attack’s best-loved tracks, but this early solo album serves as a reminder that he didn’t need any Bristolians to shine. Dancehall Style has six beautiful tracks of dubbed-up reggae dancehall, with Andy’s charismatic voice at the core. LP reissue on the Wackie’s label.

Love Joys
Lovers Rock

Reissue of the rare 1983 reggae album on Wackies, through Mark Ernestus and Mortiz von Oswald's Basic Channel imprint. A landmark in that its lead singers are women, cousins Sonia Abel and Claudette Brown from Brixton, offering a different perspective and sound than the men who have historically dominated the genre.

The Chosen Brothers
March Down Babylon

You may know The Chosen Brothers’ 1980 tune ‘March Down Babylon’ as ‘Mash Down Babylon’ off the back of a 2000 re-rub by Rhythm & Sound. Apparently even Mr. Bullwackie himself can’t quite decide which is the real title. Either way, this rootsy tune is a Wackie’s classic. For this new release the label has culled two previously-unreleased versions from the vaults to back up the original.

The Chosen Brothers
Sing & Shout

Reissue of a Wackie’s classic here. Sing & Shout, the debut LP by The Chosen Brothers, originally saw daylight in 1985. Even back then this was a ten-tonne collection of roots reggae, and this new outing soups up the record with 12” versions of ‘All Things’ and ‘Dancing In The Rain’. This one's got an all-star cast - Junior Delahaye, Sugar Minott, Prince Douglas, Wayne Jarrett all feature heavily.

Junior Delahaye
Showcase

Junior Delahaye's "Showcase", first released on vinyl in 1982, reimagines honeyed Philly soul, upping the ante with the addition of glimmering bass-fuelled dub. This release includes three original tracks plus versions of Fuzz Sigma's 1971 hit "I Love You For All Seasons", Billy Stewart's "Sitting in the Park" and reggae classic "Travelling Man", with Wackies records Lloyd Bullwackie Barnes at the production helm.

Stranger Cole / Leroy Heptones / Bullwackies All Stars
The Time Is Now / Revolution / Take Time

An excellent slice of vintage reggae, resurrected on its original 12” format, just like Jah intended. The artists on this release are vocalists Leroy Heptones and Stranger Cole, as well as the instrumental-toting Bullwackies All Stars. But it is a Lee Perry rhythm that unites all three tracks here. The Time Is Now / Revolution is reissued by Wackie’s.

Sugar Minott
International Herb

An excellent slice of 1983 dub, resurrected on its original 10” format, just like Jah intended. With Prince Douglas Levy producing and Sugar Minott flowing on top, International Herb will delight listeners with its funky, rootsy design. And of course a dub version on the flipside. 10” reissue on Wackie’s.
