The Black Dog
Black Daisy Wheel

Beloved electro-grumps The Black Dog are back with a pair of distinct albums on the theme of dismal, hysterical post-truth media society. Black Daisy Wheel tackles its dystopian theme in a subdued, ambient style, with uneasy textures and characteristically gloomy synths drifting about. Occasional beats find their way in, such as on the dubby ‘We Must Repeat’. There are also moments of total, aching beauty, such as the climax of ‘Cognitive Dissident’.

The Black Dog
Post-Truth

Post-Truth is the counterpart album to The Black Dog’s forlorn new Black Daisy Wheel. Unlike its ambient companion, this one is all percussive teeth, at lingering dancefloor tempos. On the more minimal cuts such as ‘FWB’ and ‘Anticipation Occupation’, the tone is especially oppressive, with shuddering rhythms driving clouds of unease. Elsewhere things tend to be slower and more melodic - ‘The Patti Smith Disaster’ ‘The Truth is In the Post’.

The Black Dog
Neither / Neither

Neither / Neither is the brand new album from The Black Dog, legends of UK techno. There is a strong political, anti-establishment bent to this record, as highlighted by some of the track titles (‘The Frequency Ov Thee Truthers’ for example). The sound is dark, low and reverby, but also pounding when necessary. CD or triple LP on Dust Science.

Application
System Fork

Application are Martin & Richard Dust (The Black Dog). System Fork was designed around the principle of Itamae. Every detail was described and thought about before any work in the studio was done. This process took two years before a set of rules and principles were fully realised for the creative process in the studio.  Working with Human & Shaun Bloodworth, Application also applied more design aesthetics to artwork, videos & photographs which will become the prototypes to a live show with video.
