Gang of Ducks Vinyl, CD & tapes from this label at Norman Records
The ever prolific Shit and Shine continue to explore different sounds and here team up with similarly oddball explorers Gang of Ducks to issue this extremely limited 12". This release sees them continue to mine a wide sonic palette taking in drugged up funk, slo-mo EDM and blurry future techno.
Sound artist XIII returns to Gang of Ducks (Shit & Shine, My Panda Shall Fly) for this eerie EP. Eocity was made predominantly with a Yamaha ex5r, a piece of hardware which intended to mimic the vibrations and timbral quirks of the acoustic instruments it was aping. It didn’t succeed, but XIII taps into the simultaneously chilly and warm sound of the synth across these six tracks. The resulting record lands somewhere between Ziur and Visible Cloaks. The sleeve comes 'hand-burnt', which is cool.

The one born Ben Billington comes through with five new Quicksails numbers. A mainstay of the Chicago electronics scene, Billington’s highly skew-whiff styles approximates Muslimgauze, Radiante Pourpre and the more erstwhile corners of the Oval catalogue without any of those comparisons settling particularly comfortably. Comes backed with remixes by Shit & Shine, Khaki Blazer and Brett Naucke, all of which are also super strange.
Detroit duo Traag consist of Travis Galloway (aka Siobhan) and Chris Durham, a couple of the foremost practitioners at the intersection of techno and noise. They’ve previously done releases for the likes of Opal Tapes and Goaty Tapes, as well as a couple of 12”s for Gang of Ducks. This EP inaugurates the latter label’s new ultra-limited handmade clear vinyl series, G.O.D. CUTS. Impatient beats are matched with woozy synths, sinister muttering and even a stray dubbed-up horse.
Datashock are a united bunch of multi-instrumentalists, who on this occasion bring us mysterious and avant-garde offering - HDTrailer. With an enormous back-catalogue spanning over 30 albums-wide, this collective are still not slowing down anytime soon. This psychedelic edition drifts in and out of consciousness in a way that captivates throughout.
Some spiritual darkness from Sabla. Spirits are the new sonic mutations from the Gang of Ducks affiliate. Each tune is based around some eerie samples from various field recordings. These snippets of grainy vocals are accompanied by some heavy production, in a dubbed out techno fashion - he's knee deep in the juju on this one. Out on 12" vinyl from Gang Of Ducks.
NYC resident Ital returns with a dark and stressful EP in the form of the appropriately titled Toxic Work Environment. The muffled kick-drum mirrors heart palpitations with the moody synth doing little to lighten the mood. Occasional glimpses of respite offer release from the existential panic that makes up the bulk of this ultra-contemporary effort. Out on vinyl 12” from Gang Of Ducks.
Strange warping sounds from Oddgrad. Propaganda Propaganda spins together a wild world of samples both human and inhuman, loosely structured into a curious shape. 7” record packaged in a stylish minimal sleeve that has been UV printed! Must be gorgeous. Just 150 copies out there, on Gang Of Ducks.
Going in for the full rebirth with DYD. GOD is the newest release from the Mediterranean sleaze-mongers. Full of sensual slow jams to make you bump 'n' grind with their electro R&B. They make the most of auto-tuned vocals and the 808, and mix it up with some italo'ed out synths. Out on 12" vinyl from Gang of Ducks.
