Circle
Surface

90s, Finnish and very prog rock, Circle were famous for trying on a hybrid of genres over a slew of 7" releases and full lengths. 'Surface' shows the band five years into their existence, performing live at Pakkahuone, Tampere. The whole thing is kicked off with a cover of a Hank Williams song, if you want to know how much this band plumb the depths.

Mr. Epp & The Calculations
Of Course I'm Happy. Why?

Mr Epp & The Calculations are one of the hidden gems of Seattle’s pre-grunge post-punk scene. Howled sarcastic vocals and a no-wave-derived instrumental clatter still compells to this day. The Of Course I’m Happy. Why? EP is the only thing they ever released, 7 inches-worth of electrified goodness. Reissued at last by Full Contact.

Circle
Pori

Full Contact/Ektro reissue an early release from Finnish experimental metal collective Circle. Pori is the name of the album, and the band’s hometown, and shows a slightly more civilized side of the group. The focus here is on ambient textures and incorporating electronic elements into the heavy prog sound. This release has been out of print for a long time now, so good job guys.

Old Man Gloom
Mickey Rookey Live At London

The heavier-than-heavy doom metal super-group Old Man Gloom capture their intense live show on Mickey Rookey Live at London. The group’s messy mixture of industrial, doom and noise elements is presented here in all its glory. This was recorded by the band Circle and pressed to double vinyl LP by Full Contact/Ektro, and it sounds great.

Pharaoh Overlord
6000 km/h

Finnish experimental spliff-rockers Pharoah Overlord release this recording of their performance at Turku's H2 festival. Featuring three members of the group Circle, the band have been releasing music fairly prolifically since 2000. This 12" vinyl is limited to 500 copies, released by full Contact / Ektro.

Koenji Hyakkei
Hundred Sights Of Koenji

Nothing like a bit of ridiculous Zeuhl-fuelled prog rock to get your day going and potentially get you launched to the nearest, most cosmic of space stations. Actually, though, Koenji Hyakkei have swallowed a few of the world's most annoying genres, hoping to turn them into gold: they cite a love of jazz, medieval music, power metal and hardcore, and they hope 'Hundred Sights of Koenji' is a good enough smorgasbord of them.

Circle
6000 km/h

Finnish avant-garde New-wave heavy metallers Circle have released an ice-topped mountain of work over their two-decade career. With metal, jazz and easy listening moments, it’s an exploration of schizophrenia for those who fancy trying it. This live recording, taken from their 2014 European tour, is a treat for fans who rarely get a chance to see the Nordic rockers in the UK.

Circle
Hissi

Starting off as a more conventionally prog rock outfit with elements of repetitious psych brainwashing, Circle eventually turned into any genre they could find the recipe to, trying out krautrock and metal and many, many more. 'Hissi' is one of their most supremely baffling records, comprised of pantomime instrumentation and ambient soundscapes instead of all that overt guitar rockin' nonsense.

Circle
Silver

Circle originally released the tunes being re-released on 7" by Ektro in the early 90s, back when their Finnish brand of hypno-rock was there to daze and confuse audiences and offer them a slice of abstract wonder. They're back now for all to hear, including 'Silver', with its relentless guitar motifs and punk spitting vibe.

Circle
Point

Well known for being one of prog-rock's weirdest and most versatile acts, accepting a plethora of genres into their hearts record-to-record (from psych, kraut-informed electronic and even black metal at one point), Circle were mostly known for being experts of hypnosis, making songs out of long-winded, ever-repeating riffs and punishing instrumentation. 'Point' is one of their early 7" releases, and now gets a reissue via Ektro.

Circle
DNA / Independence

Full Contact continues to celebrate the hypno rock of Circle, a proudly avant-garde, gleefully jammy band from Finland who were prolific in the early 90s. 'DNA / Independence' is one of three 7" records initially released in this time, brought back so all can hear the band's mesmerizing, unwavering riffs and often speculated made-up languages.

Circle
Ssseeennnssseeesss

Circle are a Finnish experimental rock band: so experimental in fact that they have ventured to collaborate with artist Mika Taanila in order to create an honest-to-god audio-visual theatrically-performed rock opera. Ssseeennnssseeesss is a recording of the live premiere of said show, and it incorporates a very wide variety of musical styles. Enticing, no?

Circle
Hollywood

Double LP reissue of the Finnish band Circle’s album Hollywood. Their most metal album with vocals from Bruce Duff as well as the usual crowd of Janne Westerlund. Jussi Lehtisalo, Tomi Leppänen and Mika Rättö. Featuring two tracks from Earthworm also. The real question is why is Circle such a popular band name? Vinyl.
