Laurel Halo & Hodge
Tru / Opal / The Light Within You

Laurel Halo, real name Ina Cube (I’d have stuck with that tbh), is an American electronic musician who bases herself in Berlin with all the hip kids. Here she collaborates with Jake Martin, AKA Hodge, who is one of the most exciting new names in UK techno. The three track 12” features Tru, Opal and The light Within You. 12” on Livity Sound Recordings.

  • Vinyl 12" (LIVITY013)

Forest Drive West
Static / Escape

Deliciously twisted, synth lead techno double A side from Forest Drive West. Around a stark set of drum patterns, spooky stabs and bass breath life into 'Static'. On the other side 'Escape' is a far stranger affair, with a more understated use of melody in favour of atmospheric non-music and skittering rhythms.

Various
Livity Sound Remixes

This remix compilation takes on another Livity Sound compilation from last year, which brought about some original new tunes and collaborations from a wide variety of artists on the electronic imprint. 'Livity Sound Remixes' is pretty self-explanatory, showing off reworks of tracks from the likes of Pev & Kowton and Asusu. Here the honours are done by artists as renwned as Surgeon and Tessela, among others.

Hodge
No Single Thing EP

Equal parts summery and shadowy, these three tracks of percussive rhythm work sets the tone for Hodge's latest 12". 'No Single Thing' is replete with woody beats and distant howls; 'Light Waves' minimises things into contemporary bass; 'Joe Likes to Dance' evokes paranoid electro. Diverse and superb.

Peverelist
Tessellations

Peverelist is rightly treated as a legend within the UK bass etc. scene, as a producer, as a DJ, and as a label curator with Livity Sound. Here he offers up a full-length, packed to the rafters with inventive and enchanting techno-bass-??? Tracks. Tessellations is available on CD and double LP from (who else) Livity Sound Recordings.

Kowton
Pea Soup / Iodine

Livity Sound co-bossman Kowton returns to the 12” game after some time away (his last release was the full-length Utility album). The inventive techno don dips into a bit of rave on Pea Soup and heads to Detroit for Iodine, all filtered through his particular bouncy UK sensibility of course. 12” on Livity Sound Recordings.

Forest Drive West
Jinx / Scanners

Two tracks of deep, dark, slow-shuffling techno from Forest Drive West. Jinx and its partner Scanners both seem to have been submerged in some kind of liquid smoke, giving them a slightly distant and booming flavour that is highly alluring. This weighty 12” is out on Peverelist & co.’s Livity Sound Recordings label, where it fits neatly with the house style.

Asusu
Hallucinator / Sendak

Bristol based DJ and producer Asusu blends lines between techno, house and big room IDM. A steady stream of releases on Impasse, and Livity Sound and the lines are becoming incredibly blurred. Hallucinator being a light and playful bouncy techno track, and Sendak showing almost trap-like groove and swing.

Kowton
Utility

Kowtown drops the very first full-length album of his long and prestigious career: this also marks the first full-length for the Livity Sound label he co-runs. Utility is perfectly named, with each track being precision-tuned for maximum dancefloor efficiency, though without losing the nuances and subtle details that make it deeply compelling as home-listening. Great work from a master of his own sound.

Peverelist
Undulate / Grit

Recently, Peverelist has usually contented himself with running the Livity Sound label and making music with different combinations of close collaborators. Undulate / Grit is the first new solo release from the guy in two years, and it is a big winner. Thick, heavy drums groove around plunging bass and melodic lines. Lovely.

Kowton
On Repeat / Holding Patterns

Bristol's Livity Sound drops bass resonator Kowton's latest slab of penetrating off-kilter techno, a duo of tunes that are simultaneously crushing and fresh. It seems that the London-based producer is steadily rising amongst the techno ranks, following recent remixes of his material by the likes of Surgeon and Karenn, this release paving the way between Somerset and Berghain.

Pev & Hodge
21 Versions / What Your Heart Knows

The Livity Sound label / collective continues to push infectious new rollers out into the world, 21 Versions / What Your Heart Knows being the latest. Pev & Hodge lay out a delicious palette of bouncing rhythms, slung together with both consummate professionalism and a joyously loose approach. Very fine.

Pev & Kowton
Signal 3 / Low Strobe

Latest emissions from the Livity Sound crew. Peverelist and Kowton lead the charge into 2015 with two tracks of smooth, questing techno-esque sound, fine-tuned to kick up the action at a dancefloor near you. Signal 3 / Low Strobe marks the first original material from this pair in a few years, so check it out!

Pev & Kowton
Aztec Chant (Tessela remix) / End Point (Stenny & Andrea remix)

A duo of remixes of Bristol Bass pioneers Pev & Kowton from Livity Sound. Taking the reins are Tessela, delivering a mad reinterpretation of Pev's 2013 stomper 'Aztec Chant', bringing the track even closer to what the title suggests - a dark, ritualistic techno anthem that I'm sure the Aztecs would have been proud of. Pev & Kowton's collab 'End Point' is hacked up by Italians Stenny & Andrea, emphasising the kaleidoscopic synth of the original but with a beefed-up dusty beat. Undoubtedly one for the techno-heads out there.

Pev & Kowton
Raw Code (surgeon Remix) / Sister (Nick Höppner Remix)

Pev & Kowton's Raw Code is given a storming Surgeon shakedown to commence the fourth remix 12" from last years Livity Sound compilation. The flip sees Ostgut Ton founder and Panorama Bar resident Nick Hoppner shape Asusu's original into a building tech house delicacy. Strong and dependable beats per minute as you might expect from the talent on show.

Asusu
Velez (A Made Up Sound remix 1 & 2)

With an industrial twang, these two remixes of Asusu’s Velez are both catchy and unstoppable. Thumping through your speakers they will bring out a catchy and appealing beat, both remixes courtesy of A Made Up Sound. This is a pretty 12” that will fit your electro-and-dance collection very snuggly.

Pev & Asuzu / Pev & Kowton
Surge (MMM remix) /  Vapours (Pangaea remix)

Getting rather sweaty with Pev & Asuzu / Pev & Kowton. Surge (MMM remix) / Vapours (Pangaea remix) are two reworks for the Bristol based label. MMM open this one up and bring the peak time madness with an increasing level of intensity from the hench percussion, hectic bass line and ever-ascending synths. Pangaea stripes it back and straightens it out with some deep sea techno punishment. Out on 12" from Livity Sound Recordings.
