Try Harder Vinyl, CD & tapes from this label at Norman Records
This Blanket self titled album on Try Harder is a bit useful. It's very gentle delicate sounding female fronted folk music with twinkles and general pretty in. Delightful stuff in fact.... The 2 guys in the band have had releases out before on Woodland Recordings as The Diamond Family Archive and The Great Park. Also one of them has the most tremen...view item
Lordy this is good. We got a promo of this 2 months ago and I've been wetting
myself for the finished thing for fricking ages now. This is some dude from Youthmovie
Soundtrack Strategies who plays piano for 'em here and there. He's come up
with a belting album which has me slavering to bang it on the stereo whenever
possible. There's a...view item
Larsen B are the latest Try Harder hopefuls (the label has been a springboard for both Foals & Blood Red Shoes!) and they offer up a 4 track 7" on mega thick black wax. I thought it were two records glued together. The 'Marilyn' EP is charged with super melodic pensive pop that will really appeal to fans of Field Music & Jonquil or may...view item
Jonquil... 'Lions' CD on Try Harder Records. It's no secret to regulars that we loved the last Jonquil album. Such a good record it hurts.... So what's Lions like? Initially I was disappointed. I'll be honest. Anyone who makes such a great debut is gonna find it hard to top it. This is a very different record. Firstly there's loads of vocals everyw...view item
I swear I head 'Hexagon' by Tired Irie and it sounded like a totally different song.... It's like a stuttering heavy pop track trying to break out of the backing of off kilter drums. Some swirling synthesizer action fills out the sound... The drums are really good, actually pretty heavy on the snare and crunchy sounding. 'Stratellites' is like a sh...view item
Tired Irie... new single... CD you digital kids and it's a self titled release on the ace Try Harder label. They're kind of like Foals but more poppy and structured....I think maybe there's some bits of Bloc Party and Q & Not U in them. Funky indie rock which sounds like the worst type of music in the world but it kind of works. Mingus piped up...view item
Damned there's some good records this week. Here's Adam Gnade And Youthmovies together on the cracking Try Harder label. 'Honey Slides' is a 5 track CD EP of some of the freshest sounds I've heard in ages. The opener is like Foals (but with Adam talking all street poet like all over the shop). In fact that's what Adam Gnade does... he rants and rav...view item
I've been enjoying this REDJETSON 7" on Try Harder records.
It's super polished post rock with Sigur Ros style posturings and
twinkles... some Euro style Mew things happening, some Mogwai
guitars.... But I'll tell you what. It's completely catchy and completely epic.
I can imagine giving the right air...view item
Blood Red Shoes
If yr collecting the Blood Red Shoes 7"s, then there's another one out.
It's Sleater-Kinney esque angualar shouty lady gear with a soupcon of Shellac's
math rock aggro somewhere in there. Pretty darn well executed too. Discordant,
jerky & possessed. Dunno what 'A.D'H.D' stands for but it may make you want
to sta...view item
Ooooh. Post-Rock. What's it all mean? A band called Foals have released a
single spilling with intricate, spindly guitars, emotive vocals & galloping
drums that sound too fast. It's Billy Mahonie remixed by Minnie Mouse on dexy's.
There's so much complexity involved in this tune - colliding vocals sporadically
