Cult Records Vinyl, CD & tapes from this label at Norman Records
Foals and the Arctic Monkeys go on a road trip right, to a Californian desert strip club… no no, wait, wrong story, but it’s close. Intricate guitar plunking turns to sweet indie pop choruses with a snarled vocal, all tinged with a drop of whiskey. Plus it’s the first album produced by Julian Casablancas.
It’s been awhile since we heard from the Strokes. They left us in the dark after 2013’s Comedown Machine, which finally provided the liberation from their five-album ball-and-chains contract with RCA Records. The Future Present Past EP, their first since 2001, tells us little about their future. But at least it features that classic Strokes sound, which will appease us until we hear more from them.
Rapt is taken from Karen O’s solo album Crush Songs. This limited edition 7” is being released especially for Valentine's Day. Pressed on pink etched vinyl, the package will feature drawings by Karen O and a die cut heart left blank for a fan to dedicate the single to their true love (aww!). There is an exclusive TRZTN remix of Rapt.
Julian Casablancas + The Voidz
Frontman for New York's once prime chord sequencers The Strokes, Julian Casablancas is also a solo artist in his own right, having released his debut record 'Phrazes of the Young' in 2009. This follow-up gives birth to a new backing group, The Voidz, comprised of guitarists Jeramy Gritter and Amir Yaghmai, keyboardist Jeff Kite and bassist Jake Bercovici. So basically, Casablancas has just started a new band -- 'Tyranny' is the result, a broadly political rock record aimed at whoever's at the top of the mean old capitalist system.
Karen O is the frontwoman for indie rock band Yeah Yeah Yeahs, who released their fourth record, 'Sacrilege', last year. 'Crush Songs' is a record of solo recordings she has been quietly and secretly collecting since 2006, based on the time when she "crushed a lot". The record is being released on Cult records, the label run by Strokes' frontman Julian Casablancas, and promises a sound unheard in recent Yeah Yeah Yeahs' output -- "Rapt", the lead single, is a sparse acoustic slow jam that suggests the often understated days of 'Show Your Bones' .

Albert Hammond Jr.
The EP AHJ is an extended play by the American alternative rocker Albert Hammond. Jr. The EP comprises of five songs. The work, in a completely natural compos mentis manner, has reclaimed the scratchy fuelled sound the Strokes left behind. What Casablancus has built up with The Strokes, Albert Hammond Junior strips down in AHJ, to great effect.
