Johnny Marr
Call The Comet

Johnny Marr is nothing if not confident. In a recent Uncut interview he described this, his third solo album, as the best thing he's ever worked on. Therefore I'm really looking forward to hearing a record that is better than Meat is Murder. Still, he's pretty much the only Smith it's now ok to like so he's always welcome round here.

Johnny Marr
Adrenalin Baby – Johnny Marr Live

Adrenalin Baby by Johnny Marr is a collection of live recordings from the past three years. The songs come from his two solo albums The Messenger and Playland with the addition of a few classics from his halcyon days with The Smiths and Electronic. Marr’s intentions were to capture on record what happened on stage.

Johnny Marr
Dynamo

Guitar God and man with the worlds blackest hair, Johnny Marr returns with another catchy slab of crunching indie. Look at him looking all rock God on the sleeve but he's allowed to, as he was in The Smiths and makes many people very happy indeed. 'Dynamo' fairly wallops off the stereo with an insidious chorus and bagfuls of enthusiasm.

Johnny Marr
Candidate

Could Johnny Marr's hair be any more black? Any more black and it would be 'Smell the Glove' black. Really black hair or not he seems to be the only ex Smith with his reputation sort of intact. This is the third single to be taken from his 'Playland' album so expect rollicking, skyscraping indie rock with lots of plangent guitars and big wave your hands in the air choruses. Contains non album B side 'Exit Connection'

Johnny Marr
Playland

Johnny Marr's first solo album 'The messenger' had some really lovely moments as well as some thrilling ones. Should we worry that Marr is following it up so quickly? Well The Smiths were known for writing briskly so maybe nothing has changed. No soundclips are available (yet) but the press release talks of energetic, post-punk songwriting complemented by characteristic guitar style and poised vocal phrasing. We'll see how his voice stands up this time but I'm hoping for some melancholy too amid the adrenalin rush. This is the aqua blue vinyl version by the way.
