Jon Phonics
Letters To Home

A new full-length from Jon Phonics arrives, cheerfully ducking in and out of different styles and genre trappings. Letters To Home throws low-slung trap / grime / hip-hop rhythms and dirty bass throbs at the listener, sometimes fast, sometimes slow. A couple of guest vocals drop into the mix on a few tracks: Lee Scott, Dressin Red, and a particularly vigorous performance from Dirty Dike. LP release on First Word Records.

Sarah Williams White
Of The New World

Sarah Williams White is a producer, singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from South London. She is part of a burgeoning scene that includes the likes of Mo Kolours, Henry Wu along with her brother, Paul White. On her debut album, Of The New World, Sarah mixes classic influences such as Erykah Badu, PJ Harvey and Jamie Lidell with more modern favourites such as Thundercat, Jamie Woon and Hiatus Kaiyote to produce a soulful mix of layered, intricate vocals and understated beats. LP on First Word Records.

Sarah Williams White
Hum

Hum is extracted from Sarah Williams White’s impending debut LP Of The New World. The single put me slightly in mind of Tune-Yards: I think it was the looped-handclapping backdrop that did it. White is less wild, more soulful a vocalist than Garbus though. 7” on First Word Records, with a remix from brother Paul White on the B-side.

Jon Phonics
White Neckle

First Word is delighted to welcome Phonics to the fold for the release of his 'White Neckle' EP - 7 tracks that blend delicate melodies with tough beats and powerful top lines, with the addition of South-London rapper Rup and soul vocalist, Yasine lending their vocal talents to the mix. Having received early radio support from the likes of Alexander Nut, LuckyMe's The Blessings & Hyperdub's Scractha DVA - 'White Neckle' is another forward step for the talented producer. Available as a digi-EP and a limited edition 7" (featuring 4 of the tracks) it's the first of a run of projects for Phonics, with releases on Alexander Nut's 'Hotep' imprint and collaboration's with the likes of Pedestrian & Jam Baxter scheduled for release in the coming months.
