Bad Nerves
Can't Be Mine

With the twentieth birthday of Is This It just starting to peak above the horizon, the time is nigh for a resurgent interest in transatlantic art-rock. Step forward Bad Nerves, a group who look and sound as if they were cryogenically frozen around the time of the release of The Walkmen’s ‘The Rat’. Or maybe it was when The Paddingtons went top 40. Anyway, ‘Can’t Be Mine’ is perfectly acceptable music.

Bad Nerves
Radio Punk

Radio Punk is an aptly titled song, given that it seems to have been crafted out of punk template but directed squarely at getting some radio play. Bad Nerves’ lead vocals split the difference between pop-punk and swaggery Britpop, and the music isn’t far behind. But what is a Radio Punk? 7” from the National Anthem label.

Wilderado
Latigo

Previously known as Bird Dog, Wilderado’s music is refreshingly immediate, catchy and raw indie-rock songs that capture the feeling of the city and the dust of texas. They have worked with some pretty diverse people for Litago. Mixed by James McAlister and produced by The Shins’ Yuuki Matthews.

Vitamin
Giving It Up

EP number one from new Leeds group Vitamins! Giving It Up has four colourful tracks, driven by a lead vocalist with just a touch of Phoenix to him. Big melodic tunes with action-packed production. You’ll probably hear some of these fizzy indie-pop-rock numbers on a radio station soon enough. 10” on National Anthem.

Willie J Healey
Saturday Night Feeling

Oxford resident Willie J Healey is up to his second EP, following on from his DIY-released debut Malibu HD. Look at him on the cover there, just look at how proud he is. Saturday Night Feeling features four tracks of his dudeish, surf / garage rock singer-songwriting. Out on the National Anthem label.

Bird Dog
Misty Shrub

Los Angeles-based five-piece Bird Dog play indie-rock that is imbued by the hazy mountains of Southern California: classic Americana with a rock crunch. Their new EP, Misty Shrub marks the start of their grand plan: to bring romance to the wonder of the West. Their sound has been likened to Band of Horses and My Morning Jacket. The band are signed to National Anthem, the home of Haim and Chvrches.

Ardyn
Universe

The National Anthem label here attempt to follow up the recent success they’ve had with Chvrches and Haim with the first ever release of Ardyn, a duo made up of twins. The Universe contains four tracks of carefully constructed pop music that suspends instruments and vocals alike in a slight haze of electronic production. 10”.

Shivum Sharma
All These Years EP

Produced by the geezer (Liam Howe) who did the recent FKA Twigs killer and some Tom Vek stuff, All These Years is the EP follow up to Shivum Sharma’s debut album Follow. It’s some good old angsty electro indie pop in the vein of vomitingly dull London Grammar. Limited to 300 10” vinyl.
