Black Lagoon Vinyl, CD & tapes from this label at Norman Records
Harry Stafford might be known to you from his time fronting the band Inca Babies, where he sung and played guitar. But look! No guitars on this record here. Instead, Harry has transferred his talents to piano (the ‘Guitar Shaped Hammers’ of the title), playing punky piano blues with some dubby touches in the production. Fair play Harry, the instrument transfer worked. On Black Lagoon.
The latest from the Inca Babies is their 7th album and according to the press release is the kind of thing to listen to if you like Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Gun Club, The Cramps, Link Wray, The Screaming Blue Messiahs which from the track I've heard is pretty accurate. They call it death-blues which is also a pretty accurate description of what they do. Its swampy back of a pub blues rock with pounding rhythm section and ranted vocals. Looks like they are touring all over the place too and I can imagine their suft punk and trashy blues going down well after a slurp of beer or two.
