The Doors
Hello I Love You / Love Street

Apparently this lot shifted some units in their day. First we’re hearing of it. Anyway, 2018 marks a half-century since the release of the Waiting For The Sun, the third LP from The Doors. It went platinum, topped the charts in the U.S.A. and spawned a number 1 single in ‘Hello, I Love You’. To celebrate the anniversary, that hit single is being reissued along with original b-side ‘Love Street’. Both versions here are the mono cuts that were sent to radio stations at the time, and it’s the first time this mix of ‘Love Street’ has been released commercially.

Nuggets: The Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968 (40th Anniversary Edition)

Lenny Kaye’s comp of 60s psych and garage singles originally appeared in 1972, and if anything has grown in importance as an overview of a well-defined golden era, when a sense of possibility abounded, and before everything got slick and serious. The 13th Floor Elevators, The Electric Prunes and The Seeds may be familiar names to many, and Count Five’s Psychotic Reaction has become a standard. The Nazz began Todd Rundgren’s career, and The Amboy Dukes foisted Ted Nugent on the world. But the one-offs and also-rans like The Knickerbockers and Mouse are as much fun. Styles range from proto-punk to baroque pop to Beatles pastiche, but it’s all bursting with joyous youthful vigour. Double LP reissue, with 27 tracks.

The Stooges
Funhouse

Rarely, if ever, has the spirit and sound of rock’n’roll been distilled to such perfection. Iggy, the Asheton brothers and bassist Dave Alexander present a model of semi-improvised heavy psychedelic rock here. Loose and T.V. Eye are irresistible, but things get further out when Steve Mackay’s sax appears on the title track. After that, there’s nowhere to go but the insane chaotic blow-out of L.A. Blues. Unimpeachable!

Love
Forever Changes (50th Anniversary Edition)

One of the greatest albums of all time reaches 50 but, with multiple re-issues down the line already, what will they squeeze out of it this time? Well you get mono and stereo mixes, an alternate mix, and a disc of outtakes - some of which are actually pretty darned good. Superb pastoral psychedelic pop that has influenced generations. Every home should have one in some format or other.
