Ennio Morricone
4 Mosche Di Velluto Grigio (Four Flies On Grey Velvet)

4 Mosche Di Velluto Grigio (Four Flies On Grey Velvet) is a 1972 film by Dario Argento. The soundtrack was composed by the legendary Ennio Morricone. It is in turn, manic, tense and discordant with moments of jazz rock. It was orchestrated by Bruno Nicolai and features the vocals of Edda Dell’Orso. A fantastic late night listen.

Ennio Morricone
Space: 1999

Italian composer Ennio Morricone is an icon of film soundtracks, having created the scores to most of Sergio Leone’s films, including A fistful Of Dollars, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, as well as The Thing and Mission To Mars. Here Death Waltz have Ennio’s composition for the Italian full length feature version of the TV Series, released in 1975, where he turned Barry Gray’s music into freeform space jazz.

John Carpenter & Alan Howarth
Prince Of Darkness

Often regarded as one of John Carpenter and Alan Howarth's greatest scores, 'Prince Of Darkness' is an essential soundtrack for all you lovers of spooky synth music and horror films. Packed with 80s synth-riffing and a bit of Carpenter's trademark DIY eeriness, the score perfectly complements the bizarre supernatural horror film.

Twin Peaks: Music from the Limited Event Series (Death Waltz Edition)

Here we have the Death Waltz Edition of Twin Peaks: Music From The Limited Event Series. It features tracks from NIN, Eddie Vedder, The Chromatics, Otis Redding and Lissie. It wouldn’t be a Twin Peaks record, though, if it didn’t feature Julee Cruise and original score composer Angelo Badalamenti. It's on coloured wax too.

Claudio Simonetti, Fabio Pignatelli & Massimo Morante
Tenebre (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Tenebre is one of the many Dario Argento masterpieces in the Italian film directors cannon. His films were usually set to the music of Italian prog band Goblin but they had disbanded by 1982 when this film was made. He did, however, convince Claudio Simonetti, Fabio Pignatelli & Massimo Morante, formerly of the band, to record the score - a mindblowing disco-prog workout.

Angelo Badalamenti
Twin Peaks (Death Waltz Edition)

This new vinyl edition of the Twin Peaks score has been pressed on ‘damn fine coffee’-coloured vinyl, an extremely Death Waltz Recording Company thing to do. Mind you, they’re a good label who do good records, and there are arguably few good-er records than Angelo Badalamenti’s acclaimed score for the original Twin Peaks. You probably know how this thing goes now - ethereal, loungey, Lynchian, peerless.

John Carpenter
Halloween - 40th Anniversary Edition

The worlds of film and music are hell-bent on squeezing every last drop of juice from the reboot of John Carpenter’s Halloween. This one here is not to be confused with a soundtrack album for the 40th anniversary movie - it is, in fact, the 40th anniversary edition of the ORIGINAL 1978 score. Apparently the first official release of this soundtrack was a remixed version, so for this new edition Carpenter’s partner-in-crime Alan Howarth has faithfully copied over the film's audio tracks in the same order in which they appear on-screen.

Tonight She Comes (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Polish composer Wojciech Golczewski has a significant number of scores under his belt including 400 Days and Reality Check. He has written an electronic score for Matt Stuertz film Tonight She Comes about a girl who disappears in mysterious circumstances. The score works equally as well when using it to soundtrack your commute to work in the dark mornings.

Randy Miller
Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Randy Miller was given the job of scoring Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth. Miller took a darker approach to the music. Atmospheric, and doom-laden. It was in contrast to the bigger sounding scores from the first two movies, composed by Christopher Young, although the established themes were used as a starting point.

Hellbound: Hellraiser II (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

I could just list all the films that Christopher Young has scored, but I don’t have time, and I’m sure you don’t have time to read it. Fair to say he’s done a few, though, and therefore knows what he’s doing. For Hellbound: Hellriaser II he mixes choirs, electronics and a massive orchestra to create a score that multiplies the terror on screen.

Steve Horelick
Madman (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

It could be said that what sets 1982 slasher flick, Madman, apart from its contemporaries is the direction of Joe Giannone. The soundtrack ain’t too shabby either, with Steve Horelick using pretty much every synth he can get his hands on to create an eerie score that only serves to make the film even more frightening.

Charles Bernstein
A Nightmare On Elm Street (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Score)

A vinyl re-issue of Charles Bernstein’s memorable score to A Nightmare On Elm Street, the 1984 horror classic that introduced the world to the nightmarish figure of Freddy Krueger. Bernstein’s mixture of synth sounds that ranged from chilling to blood-curdling, plus distorted percussion and creepy voices, established the mood perfectly.

Twin Peaks: Limited Event Series Soundtrack (Death Waltz Edition)

Twin Peaks soundtracks are always essential, and we make no exception for this new release on Death Waltz, containing the accompaniment to the recent third season (or the Limited Event Series if you are David Lynch). It has Angelo Badalamenti favourites new and old, naturally, but also extra great material from Chromatics, Johnny Jewel, and Krzysztof Penderecki’s motherfucking ‘Threnody For The Victims of Hiroshima’. All in a fancy double LP package.

Pino Donaggio
Trauma (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

The reason that 1993’s Trauma is an outlier in the oeuvre of Italian movie director Dario Argento is because it doesn’t feature a soundtrack from Goblin. Partly due to pressure from the studio, Argento ditched his usual set of librarian weirdos for a more ornate orchestral score by Pino Donaggio. Donaggio’s stately-yet-strange compositions would have struck a chord with contemporaneous viewers still feeling the impact of Twin Peaks. Now Death Waltz have put the Trauma OST on vinyl for the first time.

Warriors Of The Year 2072 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Warriors Of The Year 2072 is a Lucio Fulci film that gives us an idea of how the future looked from 1984 (pretty intense and deadly apparently). The soundtrack was provided by the capable film synthster Riz Ortolani, in one of his most entertaining scores, as befits a film about futuristic motorbike murder competitions. Christopher Young
Hellraiser (Original Motion Picture Score)

In good time for Halloween, Christopher Young’s soundtrack to the 1987 cult horror romp Hellraiser is now yours to own on heavyweight vinyl. Remastered from the original tapes, Young’s canny score expertly communicates the complexity of themes running through the film. Naïve, seductive mystery gives way, as the sinister narrative of Pinhead and Pals draws on, to all sorts of intense transgressions.

Ola Fløttum
Thelma

Death Waltz do what they do best and drop another film OST. This one consists of the tense, eerie orchestral pieces Ola Fløttum cooked up for 2017 flick Thelma. While things rarely rise above a medium-volume hum, the quietness of this score allows Fløttum to ratchet up tension in subtle yet potent ways. Anyone who’s a fan of the music from Let The Right One In or 2001: A Space Odyssey should check Thelma.

Slava Tsukerman
Liquid Sky (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Liquid Sky is a super weird sci-fi flick from 1982 that has gained something of a cult following over the years. This is due in no small part to the fact that the film is seen as the year zero for electroclash, something that Slava Tsukerman’s soundtrack definitely has something to do with. Mind you, the music here is a damn sight stranger than your average Chicks On Speed tune. Tsukerman’s loping synth explorations here frequently cross over into coldwave, experimental electronics and early computer game soundtracks. Death Waltz feels like the right label to reissue the Liquid Sky score.

Marco Beltrami
A Quiet Place (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

You might have heard that John Krasinski’s 2018 movie A Quiet Place doesn’t feature a whole lot of talking. As such, it was all the more important that whoever Krasinski chose to do the music came through with the goods in order to adequately fill all that empty space. Scream/Resident Evil composer Marco Beltrami did just that. His score is yer classic high-octane horror romp, all sawing strings and pummelling tom-toms.

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myres

Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers

Look, everyone knows that by the time the Halloween franchise got to its fifth instalment The Revenge Of Michael Myers, the whole operation stank. John Carpenter wasn’t involved anymore, and the series had descended into cranking out lowest-common-denominator gore-fests. However, Carpenter’s old pal Alan Howarth was still doing the music, and that means that the soundtrack stands as one of the film’s few redeeming features. Now that score has been released in a nice vinyl package by Death Waltz.

Ennio Morricone
My Dear Killer

Ennio Morricone’s score for 1972 film My Dear Killer is put to wax courtesy of Death Waltz. A classic of Giallo - that’s the Italian horror/thriller genre which acts a predecessor to U.S. slasher flicks - My Dear Killer’s appeal is due in part to its highly atmospheric scoring. The music here is quite far removed from the Morricone work you’ll be most familiar with, with the composer utilising a kind of creepy, screwballed lounge-jazz style throughout. Features some vocals from Edda Dell’Orso.
