John Carpenter
Halloween - 40th Anniversary Edition

The worlds of film and music are hell-bent on squeezing every last drop of juice from the reboot of John Carpenter’s Halloween. This one here is not to be confused with a soundtrack album for the 40th anniversary movie - it is, in fact, the 40th anniversary edition of the ORIGINAL 1978 score. Apparently the first official release of this soundtrack was a remixed version, so for this new edition Carpenter’s partner-in-crime Alan Howarth has faithfully copied over the film's audio tracks in the same order in which they appear on-screen.

Gregory Tripi
MA (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

MA is a psychological horror film directed by Tate Taylor, known for films such as The Help, Girl On The Train and James Brown biopic Get On Up. The score was composed and performed by multi-instrumentalist Gregory Tripi, who has a whole host of TV and Film scores to his name. Here, he uses synths to create the perfect balance between creeping and crazy.

Twin Peaks: Limited Event Series Soundtrack (Death Waltz Edition)

Twin Peaks soundtracks are always essential, and we make no exception for this new release on Death Waltz, containing the accompaniment to the recent third season (or the Limited Event Series if you are David Lynch). It has Angelo Badalamenti favourites new and old, naturally, but also extra great material from Chromatics, Johnny Jewel, and Krzysztof Penderecki’s motherfucking ‘Threnody For The Victims of Hiroshima’. All in a fancy double LP package.

Pino Donaggio
Trauma (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

The reason that 1993’s Trauma is an outlier in the oeuvre of Italian movie director Dario Argento is because it doesn’t feature a soundtrack from Goblin. Partly due to pressure from the studio, Argento ditched his usual set of librarian weirdos for a more ornate orchestral score by Pino Donaggio. Donaggio’s stately-yet-strange compositions would have struck a chord with contemporaneous viewers still feeling the impact of Twin Peaks. Now Death Waltz have put the Trauma OST on vinyl for the first time.

Keith Emerson & Goblin
The Church

In which the fairly proggy Italian group Goblin team up with the extremely proggy Keith Emerson to soundtrack a Dario Argento horror flick. Dating from 1989, Emerson takes the film’s title La Chiesa (The Church) literally, by sticking mostly to a huge-sounding church organ.

The Void

The Void OST is mainly made up from pieces by Jeremy Gillespie, Blitz//Berlin and Manalon. The spooky ambient synth soundtrack, at times, borders on the industrial and is reminiscent of works by Nine Inch Nails, Throbbing Gristle and John Carpenter. 180g black vinyl LP limited to 100 copies for the UK.

Riz Ortolani
Warriors Of The Year 2072 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Warriors Of The Year 2072 is a Lucio Fulci film that gives us an idea of how the future looked from 1984 (pretty intense and deadly apparently). The soundtrack was provided by the capable film synthster Riz Ortolani, in one of his most entertaining scores, as befits a film about futuristic motorbike murder competitions. Reissued by Death Waltz.

Christopher Young
Hellraiser (Original Motion Picture Score)

In good time for Halloween, Christopher Young’s soundtrack to the 1987 cult horror romp Hellraiser is now yours to own on heavyweight vinyl. Remastered from the original tapes, Young’s canny score expertly communicates the complexity of themes running through the film. Naïve, seductive mystery gives way, as the sinister narrative of Pinhead and Pals draws on, to all sorts of intense transgressions.

Ola Fløttum
Thelma

Death Waltz do what they do best and drop another film OST. This one consists of the tense, eerie orchestral pieces Ola Fløttum cooked up for 2017 flick Thelma. While things rarely rise above a medium-volume hum, the quietness of this score allows Fløttum to ratchet up tension in subtle yet potent ways. Anyone who’s a fan of the music from Let The Right One In or 2001: A Space Odyssey should check Thelma.

Slava Tsukerman
Liquid Sky (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Liquid Sky is a super weird sci-fi flick from 1982 that has gained something of a cult following over the years. This is due in no small part to the fact that the film is seen as the year zero for electroclash, something that Slava Tsukerman’s soundtrack definitely has something to do with. Mind you, the music here is a damn sight stranger than your average Chicks On Speed tune. Tsukerman’s loping synth explorations here frequently cross over into coldwave, experimental electronics and early computer game soundtracks. Death Waltz feels like the right label to reissue the Liquid Sky score.

House On The Edge Of The Park

House On The Edge Of The Park is a good old-fashioned proper nasty Italian horror flick from the 80’s, good enough to be worthy of being banned in several countries! But the implant has a mind of its own... Sound designer and composer Jed Palmer helms the soundtrack to this sinister tale. Marco Beltrami
A Quiet Place (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

You might have heard that John Krasinski’s 2018 movie A Quiet Place doesn’t feature a whole lot of talking. As such, it was all the more important that whoever Krasinski chose to do the music came through with the goods in order to adequately fill all that empty space. Scream/Resident Evil composer Marco Beltrami did just that. His score is yer classic high-octane horror romp, all sawing strings and pummelling tom-toms.

Halloween III: Season of the Witch

Round three for the Halloween franchise brought big witchy vibes to the franchise, but most important for our current interests here is that John Carpenter and Alan Howarth took a thrilling new approach for their soundtrack! Yep, Season of the Witch features massive synth business, big enough to have become an underground dancefloor staple in places. Out on Death Waltz.

Summer Of 84 (Original Soundtrack)

What with us all loving '80s throwback horror at the moment, Death Waltz Records have been helping us get our fix with some stellar releases. Summer of 84 continues where Stranger Things left off - kids with flashlights (torches, please) and menacing clouds galore. The original score by Le Matos is a fantastic mix of driving synth horror and ambient subtlety. It echos masters such as John Carpenter and oozes a cool horrorific goo.

Alan Howarth
Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myres

Unfortunately nothing to do with THE Mike Myers, Halloween 4: The Return Of Michael Myers was the first film in John Carpenter’s Halloween series that saw Alan Howarth composing the music solo. He took to his new-found freedom with gusto, layering every-more campy organs and ghoulish synths over the bones of Carpenter’s ideas. Now the score is reissued with new artwork on Death Waltz.

Girl With All The Gifts

The Girl With All The Gifts is a notable new zombie film, coming with a soundtrack by Cristobal Tapia de Veer which is presented here on vinyl. Evil Dead: A Nightmare Reimagined

Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers

Look, everyone knows that by the time the Halloween franchise got to its fifth instalment The Revenge Of Michael Myers, the whole operation stank. John Carpenter wasn’t involved anymore, and the series had descended into cranking out lowest-common-denominator gore-fests. However, Carpenter’s old pal Alan Howarth was still doing the music, and that means that the soundtrack stands as one of the film’s few redeeming features. Now that score has been released in a nice vinyl package by Death Waltz.

Ennio Morricone
My Dear Killer

Ennio Morricone’s score for 1972 film My Dear Killer is put to wax courtesy of Death Waltz. A classic of Giallo - that’s the Italian horror/thriller genre which acts a predecessor to U.S. slasher flicks - My Dear Killer’s appeal is due in part to its highly atmospheric scoring. The music here is quite far removed from the Morricone work you’ll be most familiar with, with the composer utilising a kind of creepy, screwballed lounge-jazz style throughout. Features some vocals from Edda Dell’Orso.

Nico Fidenco
Porno Holocaust (Original Score)

Porno Holocaust is a particularly exploitative and sexualised example of Italy’s 80’s sexploitation horror genre, as should be extremely evident from its ‘oh wow’ title.
