Bullion
We Had A Good Time

I've just blathered about how the Wants album artwork matches the title of the album but here it's hard to see what a melting foot has to do with a good time. Bullion however has struck gold with the press release which tells us that Nathan Jenkins made this after returning from the coast of Arrábida to a new home studio situated behind the grand hotel setting of Wim Wenders’ Lisbon Story. How nice for him. The music is a fascinating kind of danceable chamber disco pop inspired by journeys to shopping malls in an old Renault.

4 Down - Puzzled Together by Bullion

The fourth annual instalment of the DEEK imprint’s series of cover albums, 4 Down - Puzzled Together… is assembled by Bullion’s Nathan Jenkins (of 'Blue Pedro' fame). Led off with a version of Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘Kathy’s Song’ and boasting incredible versions of XTC and Mazzy Star among others, it’s another real treat.

Never Is The Change

Never Is The Change is the first single from Bullion’s recent album Loop The Loop and the DEEK label have pressed it to limited edition 12” vinyl. This tune is a clear highlight of the album, a swirling tropical house number with deadpan vocals and an organic sound palette. Its No Spirit on the other side is lovely too.

Loop The Loop

Deek Recordings unveil the debut album from Bullion. Loop The Loop continues the inventive electronic pop Bullion released in a series of vinyl singles. This London artist makes an eclectic electro-funk that splices 1980s synth pop with modern technology and the catchiest hooks imaginable. The dazzling instrumentation has got him called prog-pop, but it’s much better than that sounds.

Thool
Thool

Thool’s self-titled 12” release on the DEEK label feeds you three tracks of rolling odd-dance, full of vague synthesiser haze and wispy vocals harnessed to a beat. I don’t think we’ve heard from Thool before, and this first missive suggests we should start paying attention! Thool is released by DEEK.

Laura Groves
Committed Language

The follow-up EP to Laura Groves’ previous release, Thinking About Thinking, Committed Language is a four track EP of sensual R&B style rhythms with some nice grooves and beats which flirts with electronic lounge music. It’s all brought together by Groves’ crisp voice which is both vulnerable and empowering.   On 12” vinyl.
